Chapter 1
I remember little of this chapter, but it involved Winger and her friends daring to enter the Down Below. But when Scarva hawks attack, Winger is forced to flee down there, for her life...
Chapter 2
Winger witnesses the death of her cousin Stinger, enters the Down Below, and finds herself hanging inches from a crag on which she can hide from the Scarva Hawks. They lie in wait above...
Chapter 3
Part 1
After far too much waiting in the darkness, Winger tries to return to the top, but many strange things are encountered in her path to escape - including the Echoer, a voice in her head which seems to not be her own, and a particularly clever Scarva Hawk. WARNING: Contains fingernail removal.
Part 2
Winger, having been rescued by a Scavenger Leader, falls asleep and encounters an argument between the Master, ruler of the Factory and its human inhabitants, and strange, flesh-eating creatures who appear to be the source of the voice in her head. Who to trust?
Chapter 4: Betrayal
Winger has been bred to trust the Master...and rejects the creature's request. But when she wakes up from a nightmare in which the Master disposed of her, her father and their child, they left their mark in her for life.
Years on, and Winger is a worker in the Factory, defending the place from Scarvas. But the Master is planning things which will make the past nightmare become far too real...
Chapter 5: The Truth
The name of this chapter may be slightly misleading, for the truth is still unknown to Winger. The voices returned and the Master tricked her through these into almost having her mind warped to obey him. But the voice's body seemed to be an old friend of the Master's...
They fought, and Winger fled. The Tarathera, whether that is truth or not, is with her, and things seem even more strange and confusing...
Chapter 6: Beasts of Evil
Winger flees as the Master's insanity spreads into the minds of those he controlled, turning a gathering of humans into an army of death. The endless forests that surround the Factory keep her hidden as they search, but she continues to desperately make her way as far across the forest as possible, until she can go no more. And she realises the other threat - the animals which she is one of don't know of her...and they may kill.
Chapter 7: First Sighting
Things begin to stir again at the Factory. Death is no longer permanent. The unnatural rules...
...Meanwhile, Winger awakes to find family - but is she going to be today's lunch?
Chapter 8: Animal
Winger is accepted into the tribe-family of her ancestors, but she fears the day they discover she is half-human.
The faithful severed-limb servant of the Factory's new ruler becomes the most loyal and powerful of all beings. And a month after her acceptance, it heads towards Winger's tribe...
Chapter 9: Questions
Word soon reaches the Alphas that Winger knows about the beast. Can she risk revealing her past? And how can she help defeat something without honour or natural limits?
Chapter 10: To Warp the Self
The Master has sacrificed his hand to create an unstoppable beast. But how can Winger know how to kill such a thing? And what about the rest of the Master, back at the ruined Factory?
Chapter 11
Part 1
Winger reveals her past, the Alpha reveals his, and together they form the wolf army. But is this enough to defeat the Hand?
Part 2
The chase becomes a waiting game - the Hand is more cunning than they thought. It is defeated, but now the Factory lies before them, waiting for them... |
