Just wanted to post this note to all that need it - out there in IF land. My high school english teacher gave me this tip and i always recall it fondly*.
To is Ta, Too is too
ie Happy birthday to you.
When you read this sentence it is possible to say 'ta' (the slack aussie way of saying 'to' at times.) This indicates the use of 'to' as the word of choice.
ie I own this one too.
If you abbreviated this 'too' into 'ta' (the shortened lazy 'to') It would make no sense at all.
Speak out loud when reading these sentences and it becomes obvious. Is that clear enough?
Ne
*Especially as she was correcting the grammar on a birthday card i gave to my boyfriend who was her son... :? but anyways |

Ah, I hate it when people get this wrong. I read it in a magazine once and was royally miffed.
I always remeber it as 'too' is 'as well as, or also' and 'to' is 'intended for'. |

Yes. Too can be 'too much' or 'me too'.
Whilst we are here, I would just like to add my pet hate:
Lose - As in lost. He's going to lose. ONE 'o'.
Loose - As in er, loose. - My pants are loose. TWO 'o's!
Pay attention people, 'cos I'm going to be taking names on this one. |
