Kaine followed fuller and sighed he knew that she wasn't going to make it but then he showed Kaine the vial of silvery liquid.

"So what is it? I should of known about this, paper for everything that happens here should cross my desk."

Kaine looked at the shelves behind fuller there were about four or five viles of similar liquid some varying slightly in colour.

"WHat the hell are they then spill even i know time is of the essence?"

"Nanos, Kaine. Some of them were designed to imitate phagocytes and get rid of the disease particles, some of them enhance healing properties... And all of them have been put in this mix. Those vials contain something that will make us a bit faster, stronger and will enhance our senses, but most importantly, they could save Mari's life."

He then lowered his head and walked over to the computer. He opened a datafile from the last set of experiments.

"There is a drawback though. The nanites use the electricity produced by our own bodies to power themselves. They can last a long time, but after that time, they will start using our own body if we don't get enough time to eat and sleep. There is a great risk of anaemia and deoxynosis, wich will weaken us greatly."

He turned to Kaine again.

"This is a one shot choice. There are enough vials for us all and after that it won't be possible for us to get the disease. Not that nor any other. And we can save Mari... and Rose. But we need to be careful."

"So you are using those vials to make us immune to the zombie disease?" Mikhail asked Fuller looking at the them seemingly interested. "Also, you'd better be sure that they actually can effect people who have already been infected, wasting even one doze of that stuff is stupid."

"This is a bit different, Mikhail. You see, our body's immunity system is organic, and when the disease attacks, it seems like it converts everything biological into it's own kind. Now, nanos aren't biological, so there's a solution. Fight nature with science. Or maybe science with science, can't think straight."

He handled four vials to Kaine.

"Distribute them. Mari first. I'll give one to Starshine."

Kaine handed the vials out giving each person a syringe as well before goto a desk and taking and auto injector for his self loading the vial in he stuck the gun shaped injector to his arm and pulled the trigger feeling the nanites flow into his arm

KAine quickly fell to the ground and fitted as if he was being electrocuted " Agh whats happening there electrocuting me "

"Right then. I don't think I'll be using this medicine as I already got an injection against the virus someone of this station set loose. You enjoy the side effects and I'll just use the medication I got an hour ago."

Fuller ran over to Mari and shot the nanites into her. She had the same reaction, and the nanites started to visibly repair her knife wound. Fuller waited until they all calmed down and then shot himself with the nanites.

"Here goes nothing..."

And a blackout.

Mari's breathing slowly regulated back to normal and she opened her eyes. Her vision was blurry at first but then it cleared. She sat up, looked at her hands which were caked in dried blood. 'I couldn't have died, I'm still here, in these stained clothes,' she thought. She felt something on her face.

Marissa pulled off the oxygen mask and looked around. She noticed Kaine standing not too far away from her. 'Maybe I shouldn't stand, but I feel like I can. Damn it girl you're going to push yourself too far again.' Ignoring her thoughts, she stood up. It still hurt to stand. She walked over to Kaine and put her hand on his cheek. She kissed him, right before she noticed the changes.

Pulling out of the kiss, Mari felt a sharp electrical pain in the wound. "What the fuck? I'm being electrocuted. What did you do?" she asked him, trying to put on a serious face. Though it didn't work very well with her eye twitching every time she got electrocuted.

Kaine's fit passed and he rose leaning against the desk having the odd electric shock pass through him, he felt stronger fitter it was strange.

He watched as Mari rose and kissed him she kissed her back with great passion. "It was fuller he gave you some nanites they healed you we've all got them now they in prove our immune system and make us stronger"

Kaine lunged forward and kissed her with all the passion and happiness he had in him "told you you would be ok"

"Ah, you're awake. Good." Fuller said. "Your boyfriend saved your life, but at a high risk. You should watch carefully, for you will grow tired more easily and you'll need more rest. Ask Attie for details."

Fuller crouched to check how Star was doing. She was sleeping peacefully, only her eyes would twitch under her eyelids. Her pulse was ok and he got zapped in a similar fashion to how Mari was. He chuckled and turned his head over to Rose. She wasn't as calm as Star. It looked as if she was fighting someone in her sleep. Fuller opened her eyelid and checked. Yep, it's one long REM phase. She must be having one hell of a nightmare.

Mari wrapped her arms around Kaine. She barely heard Fuller's voice in her ears. "I'll thank you when we get to the ship," Mari whispered in Kaine's ear. She sat down on the desk and rested her head on his shoulder.

Kaine's arm went round her waist as she rested her head against his shoulder.A shook ran through his body and Kaine felt oddly full of energy like tonnes of adrenalin was burning through his veins

"Any one feel extremely full of energy. So how will these affect us you mentioned they were all different different how? come on? come on?" Kaine's words flew off his toung at a rapid rate Kaine was talking extremely fast

Rose had been nearly gone when she received the nanite injection and now she dreamt of all the things she could have possibly done to her comrades as that thing she nearly became, and the things they might do to her when they found out it was all her fault... because she put her personal life ahead of the lives of countless others on this station..

So many lives lost... so many countless sacrificed.. all for nothing, ... my fault.. Those were the words she whispered as Fuller leaned down to check underneath her eyelid.

Star watched Fuller rush into action before she had a chance to say a word. Rose, who moments before was a mutant thinkg hanging out of a wall was now standing in front of her... she jammed a fist into her eyes and rubbed hard, tryng to focus.

Once again the Comms unit came to life in her hands.

'Station Odysseyeus, this is Capt. James from the Greenaway - Altrona Colony on Pedi-Nine. Can anyone read me? We have recieved word that you are compromised. If there are any survivors you need to make yourselves known. I have been charged with a kill hit on the colony. I repeat, make yourselves known. Over'

Star gasped in shock and ran forward to grab Kaine by the arm. One look at his face was enough to stop her in her tracks.

'This is Odysseus. We have survivors. Can you hear me? Please?' Star waited for a reply, the pause stretching on eternally. 'oh yeah, um, i mean.. Over.'

Her heart started to race in her chest as she contemplated her fate, indeed the fate of all present, if Capt. James hadn't heard her reply. She was just about to try again when the Capt. echoed back.

'Roger that, Odysseus. Confirm number of survivors, names for clearance and evauation procedures will be commenced...'

Star turned to the group. They were all focused on different objectives and she had to shout to make herself known.

'PLEASE! Listen! They are coming to save us.... Just tell me your names!'

Star looked at them each in turn, pleading with her eyes for them to just pay attention to her for once.

"Guys, we have a situation. We might get off this rock!"

He turned to Star and leaned over to the comms device that was in her hands.

"This is head of MedSec Michael Fuller, authorization code 'Xenon light'."

He listened as the comms device crackled and the captain said "Authorization confirmed".

"Come on guys, this a chance to get away, and I'm not looking forward to spending my old days hacking zombies."

Kaine rose quickly from the desk and walked to fuller we need to talk and bring the radio.

Kaine walked quickly taking fuller to a quiet corner out of earshot of everyone.

"Fuller you know as well as I do this cant happen there is clear procedure for infection on the base we cant let this disease get out. You also know were in lock down and the auto defenses will open fire."

Kaine took the radio "This is deputy Director Kaine of the Odysseus Research facility, how do you know of our current situation? You will also know that the facility is in lock down shields are raised at auto defenses are armed your ship will encounter heavy fire. Also according to article G chapter 4 This space station is currently a contaminated area and you cannot risk picking any survivors up for at least 72 hours I suggest you wait at marker 4367 for the allotted period. Override code Blackout"

Kaine turned to fuller "we've got to survive 72 hours on this hell hole hopefully the creature should die off, by then otherwise we are trapped. We will have to allot teams to go get food and supplies it will have to be me you and Mari maybe Rose if she recovered. We cant ask civvilians to put there life on the line"

Mari's mouth dropped open when she heard how long they would have to be there. "Fuck. I need to inform my superiors of this. They don't even know of the situation. Anybody got a phone?" Mari asked.

"Uh, Major I grabbed one from the communication room on the ship," said one of the survivors. As he walked forward, Mari noticed it was one of her subordinates.

Mari got off the desk and walked over to him. "Ah, can always count on you Hughes. Thanks," she said. She leaned in and whispered in his ear. "Any other of my crew that survived?" She watched him shake his head no.

She took the device and walked over to the corner of the room. 'I am gonna get an ass kicking over the phone,' Mari thought as she selected her superiors number and pressed call.

She listened to it ring twice and then an answer. Taking a deep breath, she started a long winded discussion of what happened from the minute she stepped off the ship to now, though leaving some certain details out that her superior didn't need to know about.

"Great. We now have six powered-up people and a few survivors... Holy crap!"

He smacked his forehead... He had forgotten...

Betty... I need to give her something... I gotta get myself to the power station...

"Uh, we... we'd better secure the power station. I think there was a small breach in the perimeter when the storm hit us. It's crucial for our survival, as we could get the auto-defense systems online. We should check for survivors as well."

Star stared in disbelief as the fools in charge walked away, muttering about containment.

She slid down the wall and stared at her feet thinking. Why wasnt she sick yet? The others had had an injection with the vaccine... She was sure she was the only one that hadn't.

Star thought about speaking up but decided against it. That Kaine guy was hardcore scientest and she didn't want to give him an excuse to come near her with anything remotly jabby. Besides, Michael must have realised and he surely would have said something if he thought it was important.

So hungry.. she thought to herself as her stomache growled. Pairs of eyes turned towards her and she smiled shyly back.

talk about embaressment....

Kaine paced stressfully in the corner it was all hitting him now this was his fault and now he had just denied every one the chance to live he felt angry his body seemed to be pulsing with anger.

"Damn it its my fault its all My F**KING FAULT" Kaine roared loudly throughout the medsec every one looked at him as he grabbed a chair and through it hard against the wall smashing

"This is ridiculous we need food and water and supplies. Mari, Fuller Rose all kit up with move out in 5 minutes" Kaine said his actions and personality all seemed to be very irrational and everyone could see this

Mari was hpolding the device out from her ear when her superior spoke to her. It was on it's normal setting, though she could swear he was shouting at her. When she heard Kaine's voice she shut off the device and looked around her. 'My vision seems sharper, I can hear better, what the hell did they give me? It's as if my senses are kicked up a notch,' Mari thought. She walked over to Kaine.

"I'm really sorry for what I'm about to do Atticus," Mari said. Before any reaction could come from Kaine, she pulled back her hand and slapped him across the face. "Get yourself together. Now is not the fucking time to have a nervous breakdown. Not with what we have to do."

She put her hands on her hips and gave him the same look she gave her subordinates on a regular basis. A serious stern look that could send chills down anyone's spine. "I didn't want to do that, but we have a job to do. Work now, nervous breakdowns later. Do you understand me?"

Kaine recoiled from the slap every inch of his body felt like lashing back it was strange. Kaine looked at her "That looks not going to work what are these nanites doing to me there giving me energy making me angry there screwing with my emotion its like being a teenager again"

Kaine looked around the room everyone was watching his episode. " What you looking at back off BEAT IT"

"Really, i'm not feeling all that overly energetic. I'm just noticing changes in my senses. But forget that. I need a weapon. I don't feel complete without a gun or knife on me," Mari said.

She resumed her seat back on the desk. "Oh and Kaine, I would really appreciate it if you wouldn't yell. My ears are still ringing from the last time you yelled," She explained rubbing her temples trying to stave off a headache that was coming.

Fuller was working on the nano shelves when he heard Star's stomach growling.

"I hear ya there." he talked to her stomach in a joking tone. "She didn't feed you well, eh?" he chuckled. "We ought to fix that. Those nanos can't work if you're empty."

He hoped she got the joke, as he lend her a hand so she could get up and they went to the MedSec 6 cantina.

"Let's see if there's anything edible here..."

Fuller was a bit shocked by her sudden shouting, but he quickly regained his posture and chuckled "Congratulations Star! Looks like our little girl here is not little after all!"

He went to the other side of the empty, desolate cantina and opened a stained refrigerator.

"Uhm... not exactly a birthday cake, but this will have to do."

He withdrew some cool rations, some of them were simple energy bars, some were industrially packed in smaller or larger packages. The taste of them must have been wonderful, judging by how everybody in the room frowned after one glance at them.

Kaine unstrapped a handgun and passed it to mari

"There you go, there a weapon, sorry there not your there missing." Kaine looked her in the eyes placing his arms around her, his nanites were still reeking havoc with with his hormones

Kaine kissed her passionately "come on lets go get a bite then we need to see about these generators with fuller" He took her hand leading her into the canteen sitting on a bench looking over to fuller

"So Fuller what this about the generators? Plus I take it we will need more supplies?"

Fuller wiped off some crumbs from the energy bars and looked at Kaine and Mira.

"Yes, I forgot about that... these tasty energy bars do that to people. most of the generators are down, seeing how a small number of systems is working, let alone working properly."

He took of his blood-stained coat and tried to scrub off the blood.

"The perimeter shielding will be the last to collapse if it comes to a shutdown, but if it collapses, we're done for. The storms will hit us and they'll hit us good."

He looked at his reserves of ammo which were rapidly depleted lately.

"On the bright side, if we manage to get to the generators, we may be able to start them again, or at least fix them to a degree where they could work adequately. AND if some of the technicians are still alive we could get them to work to almost maximum power, and we could even get some help with defeating the zombies."

He saw the looks of the people present in the room... the kind you get when you babble too much.

"Long story short, we could get the auto-defenses inside the facility back online." He said with a grin, pieces of the energy bar still between his teeth here and there. :D

Susan slowed, as she heard footsteps just round the opposite corner. Probably friendly, but with all this gore around, best not to be careless... She slowly leant round the corner, kitchen knife at the ready, but was relieved to see a large group of the crew, mostly unharmed but for a few scratches. She even recognised a few of them, so she stepped round the corner and called them by name.

They didn't respond.

Frowning, she called again, this time waving her arm at them. None of them reacted, just kept walking forward, and that was when she noticed something was wrong. There was no talk, no friendly chatter between the staff, and although this was a large group, no-one touched each other but kept walking forward in a straight, unwavering path. Even more disturbing was the fact that, beyond the first few rows injuries did seem more serious, sometimes even life-threatening, yet none of them was doing anything.

Scared now, Susan started to back away, planning to find other people, people who seemed more normal. At this point, the group did seem to notice her. At once, heads turned and fixed her with strange, unblinking stares. She froze as they froze, and turned to run as they started walking towards her at that same untiring pace.

Running back through the corridors she'd just come through, Susan kept looking back and was shocked to see that the group didn't seem to be getting any further way, but she was getting tired. She stumbled, and her hand brushed along a row of sharp key hooks , cutting some small scratches into her palm. One started bleeding, and she looked behind to check whether the crew members had gained on her from that little stumble.

They looked hungry. Shocked at the sudden intensity in their faces, Susan put on an extra burst of speed and was relieved to see the group drop behind her. She rattled the door handles as she passed them, hoping one would open onto an escape route.

Finally, one opened. She burst through into the room, hoping for any escape routes. She swore when she saw how bare the room was. A small table sat next to two sofas, and a telescreen was placed in the middle of the opposite wall. There was a sink in the corner, and an air vent above it. She dragged the table across to in front of the door, hoping that it would prevent her persuers (sp?) getting into the room soon. She quickly sent out an emergency signal via the telescreen's control panel (staff acess did have its perks), then searched the room for anything that would help her escape.

"Ok well we will have to do that, but it will be difficult there will be many threats on the way. So how many of us should go I need to go it will need director overdrive and I take it you will want to come fuller"

At that there was a loud bleep as the coms panel on the wall behind kaine turned looking at it "There is an emergency signal from the office block we will have to go and investigate on the way to the generators, time is of the essence suit up"

She reached out a hand and tapped the shoulder of the person in front of her..

Mari held the gun in her hand, looking at Kaine. She stayed silent as she listened to the conversation between him and Fuller. Her emotions needed to be straightened out, and quickly. She closed her eyes and gripped the gun tighter in her hand. She felt Kaine's hand go around her waist and surprisingly, it kept her calm.

That was until the signal went off. She stood up quickly and stuck the gun between her belt and her pants and looked at Kaine, her military intuition kicking in.

"Let's go, you said yourself time is of the essence here," she stated. Her nerves weren't calm yet, and that was probably showing, as she was shaking just a bit. "Don't worry I'll be fine once this whole thing is over. I promise."

'Not to sound stereotypically female or anything but is there a bathroom around here?' Star looked at Fuller andd hoped he understood that in times of crisis it could still be necessary to pee.
