City of IF

Heres the premise:

An alternate reality Earth world. The Year is 6030 - rather than the path that saw earth become the teeming metropolis of our reality, it became a mechanised Western (cowboys style) world. (think stem punk-esque)

All animals are mechanical. The food supply is a type of gel that takes on the flavour of anything it is desired to be. The world itself faded into Sepia a long time ago, there is no colour at all.

Clothing is very western with modern twists. They have tvs and most of what we have but still favour Western furnishings, clothing, pass times, and speech patterns.

The town is Dusk. The people are you.

No warriors, no mages, etc
everyday people with everyday jobs.
Blacksmiths, barmaids, secretarys, barbers, the mortician, the mayor, the sheriff, the farmer, the stage hand, school marm... etc etc

Name: Dick Mollies
Age: 53
Appearance: His skin is wrinkled like an oak's bark, and of the same strong, tough thickness. His eyes are yet bright and sharp, his teeth yellow and fractured, and his white beard neatly trimmed. He wears a straw hat and can be found on any chair carving statues out of wood with his knife. Unusually straight-backed for an old man, he can hold his own against younger men when it comes to herding cattle or firing a barrel of bullets. One could say Dick experiences his second youth- his vigor is surprising to those who meet him. But he is impotent, unfortunately.

Personality: Sharp, experienced, wise. Dick hasn't survived this long because he was a sitting duck for any lumbering idiot with a gun. He appreciates a good joke, and enjoys a chuckle after contriving some wit of his own. Mostly, Dick is observant; as he sits in his chair, whittling away some figurine from wood, he is constantly watching everything. Dick also believes in the intrisic goodness of mankind, and he is quite the gentleman- he will always defend a lady in danger.

Appearance: Long, brown hair which is always in a plait. medium height, not thin, not fat. Usually working in the electronic garden or around the house.

Personality: Kind, always willing to help. Mess with her? and she comes chasing after you with the broom or gun (whichever is at handy)! House wife style! so don't mess with her.

Age:13
Appearance: slightly built youth, jet black hair, piercing purple eyes, medium dark complexion, sorta tall for thirteen, always dresses in bright colors, yellow being his favorite so as to compliment his eyes.
Personality: A good humored, ill-natured child that sees too much and says all the wrong things at all the right times. Great entertainment at drunken parties, cause he speaks what is on everyone's minds.

On second thought, best not to include me. RL is getting a bit crowded and time to spend online when others are available is becoming increasingly sparse. Maybe next time. :)

Name: Vazario St. Denis
Age: 26

Appearance: Messy hair, messy clothes, greasy hands. Engineering most of the time; planning to final vision. Middle class, not rich. Innovative ideas are how i maintain.

Personality: Pessimistic. Analytical. Insulting to others. Snide. Intelligent.

How's that? I'd say more but i gotta run.

Name: Dove
Age: 25

Appearance: Dove is a beautiful girl who, despite always been dressed in heavy leather chaps and a long duster, always draws the boys' eyes. Her strawberry blond hair is long and always braided, her peircing grey eyes sharp as the edge of her bowie knife. Her hands are tough from a the hard work her lifetime's endured and her face seems set in a perpetually blank expression. A rifle is always in one hand, or over one shoulder and a pistol always on her hip.

Personality: Dove is the quiet person usually seen polishing various guns and sharpening various knives in a shadowy corner. Suspicious of everyone, her brusque manner is generally enough to turn most folks away. She does have a way with animals and it is upon animals her rare smiles are bestowed. She feels more comfortable in a den of wolves than she does a church or saloon, more comfortable on the back of a real horse than a mechanical beast. She is a remarkable marksman and can often be found at the liberty stables, working on someone's broken down mount.

Age: 17

Appearance:

Personality: Reliable, trustworthy and friendly, but unforgiving and not hugely tolerant. Works in her family's restaurant, so is good at cooking.

Age: unknown, although most likely reasonably recent
Appearance: Small stripey-style cat, nothing specifically special on the outside. Cute, if you like cats. Furry, regular length of fur, whiskers, ears, green eyes (or what green would be if everything is sepia.. so.. an ochre colour, i suppose). The body is in good condition.
Personality: Mainly observant, but can be a little chatty. If going on the idea that animals are mechanical- she can either speak or not according to your world ideas. She's rather finicky about keeping her mechanical self in good condition. Enjoys attention of the scratching variety. Prone to extreme laziness. Can often be found lounging on hitching posts annoying the livestock, or basking in window boxes, possibly spying on human activities. May or may not be more sentient than expected.
(let me know if there's something specific you would like to include, and/or she should be more "human" in nature. If mechanical animals have "personalities", let me know, and also if she should work in a human way, or just do her cat thing and inconvenience people like a normal feline would!)

Appearance: Scruffy brown hair that reaches to the top of the neck. He has gleaming brown eyes, a sharp nose, and a crooked smile. His frame is lean, but muscular. He wears a tan shirt covered by a small, tattered, brown vest, jeans, and cowboy boots. He wears a gun holster on his back, and the gun is retrieved from reaching over his shoulder.

Personality: Freddy has allways been curious, and troublesome. He is allways wisecracking everyone, and things have been known to go missing when he's around. He's very witty, and quick, but loves to have a good time.

Name: Sarah Longfeather

Age: Unknown, but she appears to be in her early to mid twenties

Appearance: Sarah is what modern PC speech might term as "Multi-racial" although in Dusk the descriptions would probably range from the vulgar "Half-Breed" to the more genteel "Mulatto". One quarter native from her father's father, Sarah's skintone could be vaguely described as "fair skinned native" or perhaps even "southern European". Her straight, dark hair is cut chin length in front, sloping up to where the nape of her neck meets the bottom of her scalp. By some trick of her Irish grandmothers, her eyes are a startling blue. Sarah wears a form-fitting leather jacket, dyed blue and padded at the elbows and shoulders. Underneath she typically wears a black t-shirt and she normally wears black or blue jeans and worn combat boots. Strapped to her right thigh is a Bowie knife with a foot long blade and attached to her belt by a caribiner is a lasso and a pair of leather gloves. Occasionally she is seen with a tool belt containing a variety of compact tools. While she never seems to have the "ideal" tool for any job, she frequently has something "close enough".

Personality: Sarah's been an outsider so long that anything else would seem unnatural to her. She tends to be quiet, reserved, and unobtrusive; a disposition which seems equally agreeable to her and the general population. She is cautious around both strangers and aquaintences, having been burned in the past. She is curious and has a keen intelect, but little "book learning". Because of this she tends to feign contempt for the scholarly arts.

Profession: Sarah makes a living by working odd jobs around Dusk, usually when someone is in need of an extra "Hand" on a temporary basis. As a result, Sarah is something of a Jill-of-all-trades with most kinds of manual or unskilled labor.

Ohh, this looks like fun. Don't know how I missed it on the first time around...

Name: Doc Samuel "Gears" Wilson
Age: 32

Appearance: Doc Wilson is tall, thin, and part machine. His left forearm and entire left leg are steam-and-piston driven mechanical appendages. His left 'hand' looks like oddly shaped mass of gears, cogs and chains, which can extend and retract almost any tool he could need (the tools have either no, or only a few moving moving parts). His leg, while also steam powered, acts basically like a crome peg leg.

Personality: Surprisingly jovial for a man with an obvious deformity. He refuses to let his handicap interfere with the way he lives his life. He won't talk about how he lost his arm and leg, or who fitted him with the prosthetics. He would consider himself a healer instead of a physician.

He is, however, a brilliant physician, who is genuinely concerned with the health and healing of his patients.

The more I think about it, The Bowie knife reall doesn't seem to fit Sarah. I'm thinking it should be replaced with a more smaller, more practical knife with a deer antler handle in a soft leather sheath (with western style fringe, of course). I'm also assuming that (as was true for natives at many places and times in US history, including most of the "old West") it is illegal for Sarah to own a gun.
