Posted: Sat Mar 08, 2008 1:43 pm    Post subject: Evyon of the 2nd Earth

Plot:
the year 2250, a few countries and along with a small number of cities and towns survived the Armageddon that was supposed to destroy the Earth. The land has become barren and even 5 years later, plant life is just starting to grow again. The sun leaves a deep red hue upon the land, threatening to burn anything and causing any type of living being to flee into the darkness during daylight. Humans have adapted to living at night.

The night sky of the “2nd Earth” provides the light from the moon which has turned from it’s beautiful silver color to the orange that shines during harvest. With the approximate 136 cities still standing, there are 3 refugee cities for each original city. These refugees were separated because of injury, illness, etc from the rest of the human race.

The plot is set in the year 2255 in a renamed city called Evyon. The refugees staged a protest that turned violent because they were tired of being “classified individuals.” Now Evyon is a tangeled mess of refugees, soldiers, and citizens.

That’s the jist of it. Here’s the application:

NOTE: THESE ARE ORDINARY HUMANS!

Name:
Age:how old?
Appearance:What they look like
Personality:what your character is like
Status (refugee, soldier, citizen):
Background: your character's background

Here’s mine, use it as an example:

Name: Leeia Morrison

Age: 24

Appearance:

Status: Soldier

Personality: She’s not very timid and shy. Leeia will tell anyone what she thinks of them and she gives the blunt truth about about a situation. She’s short tempered and is trustworthy. She does tend to hesitate when she is faced with danger.

Background: Leeia was a college student before Armageddon, but she joined the Army right afterwords so she wouldn’t become a refugee. Her whole family became refugees and her sole purpose is to make them citizens.

Age: 28

Appearance:

Just a regular doctor, short dark hair and almost black brown eyes.

Personality:
An altruist, always willing to help, even if nobody asks for it. Kind, but easy to be fooled and to be used. Made many friends since he wouldn't use anyone if his life was depending on it.

Status: citizen, doctor

Background:

Got through medical school with psychology as his secondary subject. After the Armageddon he managed to ascend through the medical hierarchy quickly, thanks to his knowledge and will to use it for greater good. Unfortunately, someone on top doesn't want to see him ascend more and he is stuck as a supervisor in a section of a moderately important hospital in one of the cities.

Name: A'lia So'mai
Age: 17.

Personality: By turns playful and grim, happy and sorrowful. She reads a lot of strange books, is very energetic and seems to have an unusual fondness for demonic costumes (she's very good at making things from even the scarcest materials) and, bizarrely, cats.

Status: Refugee.

Background: She doesn't remember much beyond a couple of months ago, when she woke up in the middle of a blasted plain. She wandered to a nearby farm, where she quickly befriended the farmer's quiet wife, who also enjoyed designing outlandish outfits.

She worked for her keep in the mornings, and in the evenings she made outfit after outfit, selling the ones she didn't like at the market for the ladies of society's elite in New London, one of the largest cities on the continent.

She was a shrewd bargainer, and soon had quite a large salary, being one of the few clothes merchants able to purchase even the most exorbitantly priced and rare materials she desired for her creations- which, considering the decimation of plant life almost everywhere, was most.

Her bizarre clothing, far stranger than the items she sold, along with her enigmatic mien and harsh manner of speaking, soon began to frighten her customers, who were nevertheless constantly flocking in, simply because no one made clothes better than she did.

Rumors began to arise, saying that the wings on her back weren't just beautifully crafted, durable amalgamations of fine, silken gauzes and light metals- that they were real. The other merchants aided the passage of these rumors whenever they could, and soon they headed a raiding party that rode down to the farm where she lived, torching the fields of her friend's unpleasant husband as they did.

She had already gone, and the farmer's wife with her. The farmer slept in the second floor, oblivious, until he was suffocated by the smoke from his fields, coming in from the open window.

The farmer's wife stayed with family, far away, and with the gold she was given by A'lia began a clothing business from her near-death aunt's spacious demesne. Soon, she would die, and the farmer's wife would inherit her home, along with enough money to sustain her business through the toughest of times.

Alia wanders aimlessly now, trunks filled with fine clothing on a makeshift carriage she bought with some of her vast savings, ostenisibly searching for a rich patron somewhere that might appreciate her talents.

Really, though, she's looking for adventure!

She has just ridden into crowded Evyon, for she has run low on funds and regretfully seeks to replenish them with some of her less precious stock.

Name: Christina Lewis

Age: 22

Appearance:

Personality: A soft-spoken, shy, a little skittish, but sweet young woman with a lot of hopes that have been crushed with the event of the apocalypse. She has embraced walking in the night even though she loved to feel the warm sun on her skin before Armageddon. She hasn't got a whole hell of a lot going for her, but she has this little thing called "blind faith" in herself. Stubborn as hell when she sets her mind to something and patience is something she's known for.

Status: Refugee

Background: Christina was 17 during Armageddon, entering her senior year of high school, 4.0 gpa, class president, and "everybody's friend" but she wasn't really close to anybody. She had hoped to enter college early the coming summer on a cross-country scholarship (she was the star runner in high school) to major in business; she wanted to start a nonprofit organization for the homeless and orphans. But she came home from school that day and found her 3 big brothers all dead, as well as their mother; her father had walked out the day Christina was born. She did what she did best that day and ran. She ran alright, into the middle of trouble. She was jumped by a street gang and was left to die with a knife wound in her gut. She was patched up by a kind stranger who left without a word that day; she never knew he/she and Christina's been wandering around, scraping to survive on her own, ever since but she's become quite street savy in the past 5 years.

sorry to double post. Here's the start.

Leeia sat on a step as she watched the red sun set and the orange moon rise. She hated night living, it was so depressing to her. But it was the only way humans were able to survive.

She pulled a canteen off her hip and chugged some of the water that was inside it. Looking around her, Leeia sighed. Evyon was so beautiful. But with the refugee uprising, it was losing it's beauty night after night. She stood up, put her canteen back on her hip and grabbed her rifle.

She made her way to her assigned post. Guard duty to stop any other refugees from entering. She walked thrrough the streets, yawning as she went. Though she did keep an open eye for anything out of the ordinary.

Turner sat at his office desk, arranging his papers. He greeted a some nurses who passed by his office door, which was always opened. Scribbling something on the paper that was laying neatly on the desk, he remembered that the time for daily checkup is nearing. He sighed and started checking his medical bag.

Christina pulled her hair back in a ponytail and took her steps softly on the streets of Evyon that night. The moonlight is pretty... but I miss the warm sun on my skin sometimes... She sighed and looked up at the night sky, leaning on a brick building as she crossed her arms over her chest, a soft breeze rustling the hem of her shirt. As she looked up, she saw a movement up on a rooftop.

Soldier... best to stay out of sight then, she thought as she stepped towards a darkened alley.

Garnet stood in a darkened allyway, staring out at the street. She wondered about the redhead she saw slipping into the shadows not to far away. Possibly another refugee, that seemed the best answer. It was strangely quiet tonight, normally there would have been someone screaming by now, some innocent being totured by those who snapped after 'The Event'.

Kallae stepped out of the run down building she was hiding in. The night was clear and crisp. She rubbed her temples, trying to stave off the headache that was brewing in her forehead.

The street was calm and quiet. Very strange. She started to walk down the sidewalk when she noticed a girl walking towards her. She was looking the other way, giving Kallae the chance to get into an alley. As she stood in the shadow, she noticed the girl was a soldier. As the girl walked past, Kallae emerged from the shadows and followed her while keeping her distance.

She watched as another girl appeared, and began to follow a soldier. Seems quiet tonight. Why does that worry me? She thought, before straightening up and contemplted traveling to a different side of the city. It wouldn't be dangerous, she was allowed in here, but it would be good practice if she acted like she wasn't.

Leeia sensed someone behind her. 'A refugee just waiting to jump me I bet' she thought. She knew Evyon like the back of her hand.

Taking out a hand mirror, she discreetly pointed it behind her in able to see behind her. About a hundred meters back, a girl, not much younger than herself was following her.

She moved her head from side to side as if cracking her neck. She was actually taking in her surroundings. There was an alley to her right with a stairwell. No refugees stayed there since a guard was posted there most of the time. She turned right and started to walk up the steps cursing about the lack of a guard there tonight.

Christina heard the crunching footfalls of a soldier's boots approaching and looked around her wildly. Shit, trapped... she thought as her eyes came to rest on a young girl. She looked to be in her middle teens, and had a sweet looking face. She gave another glance over her shoulder and approached the teen. "Hello?"

Turner got up and took the suitcase in his left hand. Time for a routine checkup. He looked at his watch. 30 minutes... he sighed. Always the same thing at the same time.

He strode the halls of what used to be a fine hospital once. After the Event all the windows were shut tightly and only the neon lights shed some dim light on the halls. Usually only the emergency rooms were well lit. There was no need for the halls to be lit any better than they already were.

First Turner needed to check on the richer citizens.

Garnets eyes rested on the redhead. She showed no other achknowledgement. Behind her haunted eyes she beganing sizing her up, trying to tell whether she was someone to be trusted, someone to be protected, or merely someone. Her eyes went behind the redhead to the soldier, and Garnet wondered if the woman in front of h er wasn't suposed to be here.

Christina was slightly weirded out by the teen just staring at her, sizing her up. Hopefully, she's not going to attack me or something.. damn it, I just came out for some fresh air!

She whirled as the boots stopped behind her, and faced a female soldier.

Garnet merely blinked for a moment, then decidede that this girl was of no threat. That is, right now. Garnet knew that sometimes people appeared harmless, but could easily have been trained in some form of pain-giving. It occured to her that she was an example of such. She straightened up from her leaning stance, and walked out from behind the red-head, and began to size u the soldier. She could easily be a threat to those who didn't belong, unlike Garnet. She was allowed here.

Leeia ended up stopping at 2 refugees. 'Damn I'm surrounded' she thought. "You two what kind of business do you have here?" she asked. Looking more closely, she noticed one was redhead and the other was just a teenage girl. Maybe she talk some sense into them. She hated this part of her job.

Sean peddled slowly in long, wide cricles. He was looking at the guard posts around the refugee camp. Refugee camps were always well supplied... Well most of them were. The only trouble was getting into them. He started talking to himself, it was lonely on the wastes.

"Hmm, seems there a bit short handed tonight. Better make my move while the oppotunities open."

He proceeded to peddle towards the refugee camp, careful not to get caught in the few active spotlights.

Garnet stared straight into the soldiers eyes. They seemed. . agitated. Like she was doing something she really didn't want to do. A more trusting person would have warmed up immedently, not GArnet. She knew that appeareences weren't always trustworthy. So she said in a monotone." I'm walking. Nothing agaisnt it in your rulebook, is there?" It was only smoewhat a questtion, more of a statement then a question.

Willow got up a while into the night and cursed himself, he always got up "late" now because he hated waking up at night, but it didn't bother him all that much. He had rented a small apartment in the town, it wasn't the nicest place, but Willow didn't mind, he new he had great luxury compared to some people. He stepped out of the door and started to walk down the street, this was his routine, he would walk until he found a possible refugee. He would then somehow help them, but usually without them knowing, because many of them were much to proud to accept charity. Presently he came upon an interesting sight, what looked like two refugees had cornered a solider, willow disliked soldiers himself, but he didn't like the idea of anyone getting hurt ether, so he casually approached... "what might be going on here, if i may inquire" said willow.

GArnets eyes flickered to the old man, and for half a beat she said nothing. Then she merely shrugged and said in her normal monotone. "My only guess is that the soldier over there," she hooked a thumb in her direction" Believes me and/or the red head," she hooked a thumb towards the redhead," Have ill intentions towards her, whereas though I'm not sure out the redhead, I hold no grudge against those who have done me no wrong."

Leeia took in a deep breath. "I need to see proof of citizenship. If you don't have any, I'll escort you back to the refugee camp. It's standard procedure, but be lucky that I found you, the other soldiers would have shot you 2 right where you stand," she explained.

'The teen seems a bit mouthy. I guess there is no reasoning with her. I need to watch my back around this girl,' Leeia thought to herself. Then an old man came into the scene.

She listened to to the teen. "Whoa, I have never believed that you have ill intentions towards me. I was merely asking a question. My job is to keep peace in Evyon. Now the proof of citizenship. I say again, I will not harm you if you do not have it, I'm not that kind of person," Leeia explained, trying to keep the situation calm and controlled.

The richer citizens had the luxury of what used to be a normal accommodation before the Event. They were also the most grumbling ones. Not all of them though, and most of the patients looked forward to his visit. Mrs. Gretchen was one of the ones who weren't such patient patients.

"Yes, Mrs. Gretchen, your faeces analysis is done and there's nothing wrong with it."

"What about my CAT scan?"

"What CAT scan?"

"I need a CAT scan!"

"Uh, Mrs. Gretchen, your head is fine, you had a CAT scan when you came here a year ago. I doubt anything could change in your head after twelve months of strict resting and almost total immovability."

"No, I need a CAT scan! I know that something is wrong with me, I feel it here!"

She tapped the spot.

"Uh, I doubt your bladder has psychic abilities. Perhaps you should visit the restroom" the good doctor smiled.

After a few minutes of convincing her that they should wait some more, he continued with the inspection.

Christina felt her heart race when the soldier asked for proof of citizenship, but the fear that had taken hold of her quickly abated when she said she wouldn't hurt her if she didn't have it.

Sighing heavily, she spoke, her voice soft. "I don't have citizenship, ma'am, but I was just out for a walk.. I just needed to get out for some fresh air.."

She looked at the soldier with pleading eyes, praying that the soldier had spoken truth when she said she wouldn't hurt her.

Sean got to the fence unnoticed, he pulled out some wire cutters from his pocket and proceeded to make an entrance. These fools, when will they learn that fencing only keeps out gutless. Build a wall, you'll get on better.

He snuck in making a bit of noise as he squeezed through the fence, it didn't matter how much noise. By the time someone looked round, all they would see is a hole in there defences with bits of cloth attatched to it. He's inside now, he has shadows to hide in.

Sean worked his way past the odd patrol and a wandering refugee. He was about to raid the fool to see what he had on him when he was stopped by a conversation. Conversations are common things, it was just out of place and was going on at the wrong time.

He looked the street to his left. What normal eyes saw was three women and a man. What his eyes saw was potential to attain a full stomach. The old man looked the wealthiest and the least able to defend himself. The women in uniform would soon leave him to walk home himself to dettain the other two girls.

Sean slunk by the shadows ebbing closer before retreating to an alleyway. He would just wait here until all was clear, then drag his prey into the darkness. If he was lucky he might walk back out.
