This thread will become the discussion thread for the next Hangover™ extravaganza!

To the uninitiated - Hangover™ tales are told by multiple authors in an ad-hoc, spontaneous way, governed by carefully crafted guidelines, and then lovingly edited into a format that is of an acceptable standard to the Review Board.

To the unwise - Welcome Back! :grin:

This year's Hangover™ tale will carry some challenges for the authors who are willing to contribute.

The standard challenge (as before) is for you to introduce a representation of yourself into the story and NOT roleplay. This will be made easier this time around by the introduction of a fictitious main character (identity to be revealed soon!) from who's POV you will be writing.

The authors will also be challenged with incorporating a real-time event that will shortly be occuring on IF, and weaving it into the storyline as it unfolds.

The most interesting challenge is that the only powers available to any of the characters in this story will be wit and ingenuity.

If you are incapable of writing from the main character's POV, or are unable to write anything without incorporating magic, super powers or uberness to win through then stop right here. This Hangover™ tale is not for you!

If you enjoy planning and writing a gripping and funny tale where the protagonists will be pitting their wits against all odds in an attempt to save the day, then welcome aboard!

A recap of how it all works will be posted later :D

Meanwhile, feel free to scream in terror, run and hide, or if you prefer, post any comments or questions you have about being a part of the Hangover right here!

The first post is up, and locked for the time being. It's full chapter length, really to introduce the main character and the situation. All other posts should be around 500 to 1000 words, to keep it moving if possible.

Shaun registered on IF when he was drunk, and now has a hangover.

He arrived on IF when opening a PM saying 'Welcome to IF, Sucker', and got sucked through his computer screen. IF is desolate, but another 'victim' soon arrives, who also clicked on the same PM and got sucked through their computer screen.

They realise that their ordinary human forms are being sucked into IF from RL. Why?

Next chapter will run for about 4 or 5 posts, to introduce a small group of IFians.

What happens in this chapter, and how will it end?

We will also have a poll in this discussion thread. Shaun's registered IF name is very embarrassing. When he does reveal it he'll be known by that name throughout. So ideas please, what is his registered IF name?

Shaun's registered name is McLovin', yes from that awful movie which is just another cause for embarassment.

As for the chapter, perhaps several other high profile Ifians could be sucked into their comps as humans...but start running into those IFian's who're still in their avatar states?

ALso... who is oging to decide who writes next? i think if we are all scrabbling to write then something may be lost in the rush .. quality.

I like the McLovin' idea .. it's friggin hilarious (yes I saw that accursed movie) and it fits it somehow with the St. Paddy's Day thing... as a sort of silly leftover from getting trashed for Shaun.

And while I have a really nice idea for my post in mind.. teehee... and I am getting the feeling that this is going to be hilarious. ;)

Masterweaver, the moment you mention in the story that you are anything other than human, your post will be deleted and you will be ejected from Hangover.

If you cannot handle these rules, then I suggest you don't join in.

That's the risk we take with the Hangover. :grin: No doubt there'll be some wobbly posts to start with as we all try to get orientated, but it'll all get ironed out in the edit.

I'll help out by showing where posts are going wrong, and how they're being edited. Don't forget, it took us 5 months to get the Hangover right last time. This time shouldn't be so bad, as we've got a few Hangover veterans on board.

Okay guys, the Hangover will be unlocked shortly and your mission - in the next half dozen posts is this:

Three more IFians get sucked out of RL into their computer screens and are dumped somewhere in IF, in their Human Form.

We're looking for a signpost or some way of finding out where in the city we are. If it goes awry we'll stop it and take time out - and when it looks like the chapter is coming to a close, I'll stop it so we can plan the next bit.

Keep in mind the following:
No magic, no special powers, no uberness.

You are writing from Shaun's POV. His thoughts, his experiences only.

Carry on straight from the end of the last post for continuity.

You can contribute to the writing without your character appearing if you want.

Don't introduce any IFians who have not yet posted.

Don't forget to post your ideas on this thread as you go!

Okay, it was mentioned in chat that the idea of describing your RL form might be a little 'disturbing' for some.

If anyone does feel uncomfortable with this, (which is quite understandable) bear in mind that you can be as detailed or as vague as you want. You can describe your representation any way you like, it just has to be human to fit with the initial plot.

I myself have revealed nothing more than I'm not very tall, but it suffices for the story.

And don't forget, you can still write, without actually having to appear in the story.

OK we'll need to do a little work with the grammar, but the content is sound. You stuck with Shaun, and you've discovered that if anyone tries to swear a beeping sound is uttered from their mouths.

Doubtlessly Shaun and the others probably think Duffman is suffering a bit of confusion after his arrival... :D

Let's see what the next contributor has to offer. :)

It needs a little work to blend in, but the content is there.

Only one anomaly though, and that is MW assumes that the IF Crunchyfrog is in the mayoral mansion.

He can't know that - the city is devoid of the avatar IFians, and so far everyone else is clueless.

We'll go on the assumption that MW's assumption is incorrect, which could lead the group somewhere interesting.

Okay, we have the 3 new IFians - the next person to post will narrate that group, but not actually appear in the story yet...

I was operating on the assumption that the transfer of RL IFians to IF would make those IFians go into an RL-induced coma. This is IF we're talking about, right?

Right-ho!

We've got our first chapter in the can and you can see the Final Edited Version complete with spiffy thumbnail icons denoting who was responsible for what. :grin:

Now - should the Review Board deem the Hangover fit for promotion, they will most likely only promote the Final Edited Version, and we'll all still be writing here in NSG. But that's okay, because if Hangover gets promoted, I'll be passing all the fables back to the authors as your work gets transferred. :D

Nice work, Cy, by the way! I liked the bit with the sign in particular. :)

Okay, back to the plot...

Shaun, Duff, Lilith and Masterweaver are in a dark alleyway just off the city square where they first arrived. The alleyway looks a little like something out of Edwardian London.

According to Cy's post, Crunchyfrog is not with them... Now she could either have wondered off on her own, or is just catching up somewhere behind them - that's something you need to decide in the next chapter.

They are looking at a sign on the ground, which points to Linear Lane in one direction, and the Open Forum in the other.

Masterweaver wants to go to the Mayoral Mansion because he thinks he might find an answer there, as he has a theory that the 'virtual' IFians may still be around. Trouble is, he is just as clueless about the layout of the city as his companions, so they're going to have to rely on signs and maps and stuff.

So...

Are there any other ways they can find out why they are here?

Do we want to introduce any more characters yet?

Should we incorporate Ren's The City in this tale, as per Ne's suggestion?

What is going to happen in the next chapter?

(oh and btw, McLovin is looking to be a favorite... I'll let the poll run until we need to do another poll or when we start writing the next chapter. Whichever comes first!)

Let the brainstorming begin!

Maybe Crunchy has gathered her own erstwhile band of IFian's and they end up bumping into Shaun and Co. in the open forum.

And yes, I think The City! is the best availible map of the area and should be used.

(BTW i think if i got sucked into IF one of the things i would do was go check out my own place and ALSO see if any of my SGs were 'real' somewhere... oh the conversations i could have with my characters! (perhaps they cant come out their own little universes like a one way mirror??) also i would definitly head to the Inn! of course its where we all rally so it would make sense that anyone that Falls into IF woudl head to the most familiar place.)

oh yeah and are we (sorry if ou said this already i am sick and headachey..) introducingour own characters only... i mean MW cant write Shauns perspective of Lordy can he?

We are introducing our own 'character' only. Last HOV we had Key, Smee, Muaddib and all sorts popping up, and on reflection it probably wasn't really fair on some of the things we had them doing, (or having done to them, in some cases! :shock: ) especially as none of them have probably even read the story.

Once somebody has introduced their own character, it's there for us all to write about, whether we're 'in it' or not. Cy's latest post handled Shaun, Duff, Masterweaver and Lilith very well, for example.

But Cy hasn't introduced himself into the story yet, so nobody should write about his character until he does.

Gets back to the plot -

F5 the idea of taking Crunch out of the the picture for a while. Could be useful later on.

Hehehe... you know what would be really funny is if Crunchy is the one that found The City! sign/map thingymabob .... by walking into it when another (new) IFian was distracting her...

(I'm sorry CF! I couldn't help but throw some humor in there! ;) )

And then they find out that simply touching the area on the map will no longer take them where they want to go... so they have to walk. (Oh no! :P) It's actually quite simple now.. nothing in IF is working the way it should be, they're all human... What if the SGs have become nothing more than mere spiral bound notebooks and ball point pens, sitting at school desks.

The Real World is taking over IF.... *passes out from shock*
