Nothing compares to the first. That moment when you glimpse the one you know you want to spend the rest of your life with. When your eyes lock and you lose the ability to breath. In that instant, your universe shifts, and he's all you think about, all you see. Your life suddenly has new meaning. You're forever changed by that one glimpse into a future you could share with him. You don't know if he feels it, somehow you care very much what he thinks, how he feels. As you take in the sight of his soul, you know that even if you never meet again, that moment will be enough to last your lifetime. Little do you think of the challenges ahead. Little do you know how much that moment changes you.
Your subconscious soul is now yearning to be with him, to follow the invisible thread you make as you stare into his eyes. His seductive smile lures you into his graceful trap. You smile in return, hopeful of the future you glimpse in his eyes. Though you know nothing of his past or his character, you find that you would follow him wherever he leads, to the ends of the earth and beyond.
He greets you with that first hello, the first of a thousand. Your hands brush and you feel the electric power dance between your fingertips. You know that you shouldn't allow him to think that you would accept him so readily, but that warm feeling inside you is too overpowering, too sweet.
He tells you his name, and asks for yours in return. You reply, his beautiful name resounding in your head. This journey has begun with a moment of bliss. The two of you walk, unknowing of the things in your future. You are only aware of the present, your steps falling in with his, the lovely way he laughs at the funny things you've said. His hands casually brush yours, you feel intoxicated by his presence. All too soon, the moment has to end. You feel your heart yearn to never part, to be with him always. The world will be a dismal place without his presence to make it feel like home.
You part, already missing his smile, his laughter, his scent. The promises he made to meet you at the same place tomorrow seem an eternity to bear. You arrive home, still intoxicated, still watching the moments playing in your head. You feel excitement at the thought of meeting him again. Tomorrow seems light years away. That night, you lay in your bed, dreaming of him, of holding his hand, of feeling his soft lips embrace yours, of his arms wrapped tightly around you. You sigh as you hug your pillow tightly to yourself, imagining it to be him.
The next morning you wake, refreshed, knowing that today you'll see him again. You drift through the morning, barely noticing the movements you make. As the hour draws near to see him again, you fret about what to wear, how to fix your hair. You settle for anything as you realize the time. When you arrive, you see him, standing there, waiting for you. A smile lights his face as he sees you; his arms open for an embrace. You hesitate, then fall into them, a dream come true.
It seems like heaven to be in the warmth of his arms. Too soon the embrace ends as you walk hand in hand, sharing secrets you've never told. You wish time would stop so that you could be together, but time stops for no one. The light fades as you begin to feel the anguish of separation again. Today the feeling is stronger as you feel your love for him deepening.
He wraps you in his arms again, whispering your name in your ear. You hold tightly, afraid to let the moment end. Finally, he lets go, but not before holding your face in his hands and staring deep into your eyes. He brings his lips down and softly kisses your cheek. You lose your breath, wondering if you'll ever find it again.
You watch him drift away into the swirling mist. A smile brightens your face despite yourself. His scent lingers, enveloping you exactly as his arms had. Once again, you find yourself home with no memory of having taken the steps to reach it. Your thoughts had been on him, always him. He is now the center of your universe; the planet to which your moon revolves.
The next hours pass with your thoughts on a different time and place. You wake to the morning sunlight and whisper his name, loving how it sounds next to yours. Again, you will meet him today; same place, same time. You eat your meals in peaceful silence, assured of the coming hours when he can be all that you know. The day passes surprisingly quickly, and soon you are in his arms again. He takes your hand in his and leads you on a journey. It doesn't matter where you go, as long as he stands next to you.
The journey ends as the sun sets in the sky. He holds your face in his hands, staring into your eyes. Slowly, he places his lips to yours. You kiss him back, elation filling your entire being. The warmth of his lips on yours makes your heart thump wildly in your chest. The blood in your veins runs hot and speedy through your system; making your lips grow ever warmer. A minute, two minutes pass before the spell is broken and he rushes away with a beautiful smile on his brightly lit face.
You return home in a stupor; you're drunk with his kiss. The warmth still lingers on your mouth; the memory refuses to fade. You lumber onto your bed, hungry for only his touch, for only his lips once more pressed to yours. The scene plays over and over in your mind, causing you to curl into yourself to prevent you from exploding with the feeling inside. This is becoming dangerous, but there is no way you can turn from this, from him. It would cause you too much pain to be separated from him, so you'll walk this dangerous journey, no matter the cost.
You greet the morning early, before even the sun rises. The plans for this day are different, you have to wait longer to see him. The place is still the same, but the time is later, much later. You find something to occupy your hands, if not your mind, because no matter what you do, your thoughts are now forever consumed by him. He alone is the substance of them, he alone is the reason for your existence. The past no longer matters, only the present and the future. If the future did not hold him within its realm, then you wouldn't care to see it.
The sun sets as a symbol of another closing day, but to you it is only the beginning. You had promised to meet him when the sun had set in the sky, when darkness had enveloped the world. A knot of nervousness tightens in your stomach, but is pushed away by the memory of yesterday's kiss. A sweet taste creeps into your mouth at the pleasant thoughts swirling in your head.
You arrive at the meeting place, elation winning over the nerves clawing at your stomach. Something special is going to happen today, and you don't want to spoil it because you're anxious. He is unusually late, but arrives minutes after you. You embrace, his eyes holding yours as he leads you away. Your steps are in rhythm, falling at the same time, hands swinging casually. The passage of time seems minuscule as you arrive at the end of your journey.
The only things you notice are the sand at your feet, and the sound of the waves crashing onto the shore. He smiles, bringing you close, breathing in your scent as you do the same. He kisses your throat, then moves to your jaw, to your ear, your cheek; then finally brings his mouth to yours. He holds you tightly to himself, making you dizzy with the feel of him so close to your body. Deep inside you want this, yet don't know if you can take it. His left hand leaves its place at the top of your back and slowly drifts down, following the curve of your spine. His mouth opens yours and you feel his tongue slide its way into your mouth. Alarms are ringing in your head, screaming for you to stop this madness, to end this ridiculous romance.
You feel adrenaline course through your bloodstream, fear having taken the place of the light feelings of before. In the snap of fingers, you put your hands on his chest and push with all your might. A cry of “No!” escapes your lips. For the moment, you are free, all intoxication gone. His eyes are filled with a desperate fire that frightens you. He approaches you, his stride confident and measured. You now see him for what he really is, and find that you don't love him. Your thoughts over the past days had been the foolish images of fantasy. Before he can force you to do anything against your will, you run, knowing this deceitful romance is over. |

| *blink blink* that's it? I really liked that. It makes a great short story, and gives a lesson too- don't let what might not be consume your life. I really like this! If you change this inot a story, I think it'd do great! |

Thanks for the feedback! Nope, sorry. This is just what it is. It was one of those things that just flowed. You could say it was an exercise in detail. I'm considering a sequel, though.
Noni, great job catching the lesson I inserted. ;) |
