Hi all,
I'm starting to put together an idea for a game - it's a random quest generator. Check it out and let me know what you think...
:-)
Update: Game refresh 11/9/08. See below. |

| I think this sounds like a really good idea. How do we reply to the quests though? Is it here, or do we make a new thread for oursleves? |

You can just reply here. I'm thinking of doing some kind of game where you create a character and get fame and items for doing these kinds of quests. But I haven't worked out much of it yet, I'm just curious what you all think of the idea. |

It's a lot like Zogby only this seemed extremely apt for me. magic brick
First - break into the Council Chambers, early in the morning when all are hung over, and you will find FatHairyApe, from whose fat and hairy hands you will receive a brick from the Great Registration Wall.
Far to the Yesward, walk the Path of Aha and there seek the shores of the Lake of In.
There you will find the dread Mal-fait, winner of the Tournament of Death and Champion of the City of OF. Then the magic brick will reveal its magic powers, and render him helpless.
*smiles evilly* REVENGE upon Mal-fait! |

| Pretty neat Key...You could make it a writing contest where the quest recipiant then writes a short story of them on their quest...could be fun... |

| Don't even think about it Rai - just because he killed your pet doesn't give you the right to seek revenge. You'll start a war with OF. And that's just not smart. |

First, deep in the Idearium mines, seek out SerriaFox, who will help you by giving you a 1300-Fable bill.
Sail up the IFOF River to the Foothills of Hmmm, and dig your way under the land, into the legendary Dungeon of Suchness.
There lives the legendary Fat Fairy, who is so enormous that strong men faint when she sits on them. Hit her over the head with the 1300 fables and the land will be at peace
Hmmmmmm..... I'll have to get right on that. I didn't even know we had a 1300-Fable bill... |

First, sneak into the harems of the Royal Palace and find Bob the Ape-dog, who will give you what you need in your Ifquest: a brass knob taken from the Hall of Legends.
Then, travel to the frozen tundra of Is, and there you will find a small village called Yes.
There you will find the dread Mal-fait, winner of the Tournament of Death and Champion of the City of OF. Bargain with him, exchanging the brass knob for a lock of his hair.
---
Add funny ones please, like this V (yes I made up this one)
Go to FI and recieve a magic bucket from a blue chinarenn. It'll be hard to find the right Blue chinarenn in FI, since chinarenn can only be found if you have a strong alcohol with you. Shove the alcohol in each chinarenn's face and see if they take it. The one that takes is chinarenn. After chinarenn gave the magic bucket to you and is drunk put the magic bucket ontop of your head so that chinarenn don't smash the empty bottle ontop of your head.
After that go to the one named ... after finding ... give the bucket by meeting his face with the bucket, he disrespected your friend. |

Glad to hear that this is fun :D
The idea is that you would get one of these quests and then have to do something to accomplish it, e.g. either going to a different part of the site, or getting someone named in the quest to give you something, or choosing how you might get past the opponent/obstacle, based on some attributes of your character.
Here are some possible features of the game. Let me know what you think of these, or if there are others you like that I haven't thought of:
- Gaining items or fame from completing quests
- Helping other people accomplish their quests
- Getting items you need to accomplish your quests from other players
- Fighting other players
- Creating your own quests for others to do
- Traveling (which could take real time) to the different quest locations
- Seeing a map that showed where you are and where you needed to go
- Seeing who else was on a quest and what they are after

| I added a little something to the IFquests, so now they display the quest difficulty. What do you think? |

The Great magic brick
Trials:
Strength: DIFFICULT
Go to the Fantasy Forest and you will find Bob the Ape-dog, who will give you what you need in your Ifquest: a brick from the Great Registration Wall.
Far to the Yesward, walk the Path of A, and there you will find the town of Bookstore-by-Drunkenness.
Here you must face a Dark Lord of Aha. 'Aha!' he will say to you, but do not be alarmed. You must use your magic brick to defeat him, and you will be forever remembered in the legends of the City.
ooooo kay....... I live here.. I SWEAR I EXTERMINATED THAT APE-DOG FROM MY PROPERTY! *shrieks in rage and takes off to thwack Bob away* |

Well, I tried a quest and a traditional quest. (I wasn't sure what the difference was, I think the traditionals just don't have a dificulty rating right?)
magic brick
Trials:
Sneakiness: AWESOME
First, sneak into the harems of the Royal Palace and find the demon lordofthenight, who will give you a brick from the Great Registration Wall.
Far to the Yesward, walk the Path of Aha, and dig your way under the land, into the legendary Dungeon of Foot.
Here is where you will find your opponent: the Wizard of Accoutrements. Then the magic brick will reveal its magic powers, and render him helpless.
The Kiss of Tyge
In the dungeons of this castle, seek the prince of the Cats, who will help you by giving you a potion that will give you the strength of a giant.
Then, go to the Dark Tower in the Land of Shadows, where the only door is guarded by the giant who never sleeps and ever guards the way.
Once inside the Tower, you must go to the highest floor, where you must face the Lord of the Tower, Tyge, the God of the land, who can change into the form of any animal at will. Convince him to give you one kiss, and then leave him unharmed.
This is really interesting. I can't wait to see what the final plans for these are, but I like the idea of writing stories based off of them.
Maybe make a cost to play, like in Zogby, but then have the stories post in a place where the authors can earn fables for their posts. That way, there's an incentive to follow through with each quest instead of just taking quests until you find one you like. |

It's true that the classic ones don't have a difficulty rating, but the main difference is that they have a classical (i.e. Greek and Roman myth) theme, as opposed to the IFquests, which are world of IF-themed.
I'm still working on this, hope to get something more up this weekend. |

OK, I've broken the page into two parts: the Well of Infinite Possibility for If-style quests and the Oracle for classical quests.
I'll work some more on the Well next weekend. |

The Key of Great Likelihood
Trials:
Strength: AWESOME
In a covered wagon along the streets of Jester Park, you will see an orange monster named Chinaren. Ask him for a vial of concentrated Idearium.
Travel past the Bananalands, the home of Bob and his many Apedog relatives, and to the Great Trees of Hmmm, and there you will find the town of Bookstore-by-Drunkenness.
There you will find a fearsome School-marm, armed with a ruler of steel. She holds the Key of Great Likelihood. You must defeat her and bring the Key back to the City of IF. |

Late at night, in the gutters of the Muad-dib District, seek out lordofthenight, who will help you in your quIF by giving you the Royal Crown of IF, stolen from Key's head while he slept.
Sail up the IFOF River to the Foothills of Maybe and seek out the house of Yes. The path is long and you must fight off the Great Ennui-causing disease.
There you will find the primal source of the scourge Thwackabobitus: the legendary father of Bob, Bub. He holds the Key of Great Likelihood. You must defeat him and bring the Key back to the City of IF.
Next, go to the secret jails in the Mayoral Palace, and rescue an orange monster named Chinaren. Ask him for a piece of bananakibble fruit.
Sail up the IFOF River to the Foothills of Wonderbread, and there find the town of Bookstore-by-Today, along which path you must sneak past the Very Rude Trees, whose roots snare the unwary and non-punctual.
Then you will find a fearsome School-marm, armed with a ruler of steel. Bargain with her, exchanging the bananakibble fruit for a lock of her hair.
These are your trials. Succeed in them, and you will be richly rewarded.
Treacherously spectacular! |

The tree branch and the Lock of Hair
Trials:
Intelligence: HEROIC
First - go to the Council Chambers, early in the morning when all are hung over, and you will find the old green ex-Mayor Crunchyfrog, who will give you a branch from the tallest tree in the Fantasy Forest.
Travel to the Plains of We the People, where there will be a road to an Inn called the Inn of Never Say Never. The way is guarded by the giant Frog of Ribbit, whom you must defeat or get past.
See there the monstrously random Random Beast, made up entirely of dice. Bargain with it, exchanging the tree branch for a lock of its hair.
Yes! I've been trying to find the mythical d97,000 of hairyness.
By the way key, may I suggest that as one of those items you might get? |

Thanks, everybody. It's sometimes hard to get motivated to work on this, so I really appreciate it when people tell me what they like.
I'll get some more up this weekend.

In a covered wagon along the streets of Jester Park, you will see shy_blu_eyes, who will help you in your quIF by giving you the mythical d97,000 of Hairyness.
Then, trek across the wide Desert of Television, and dig your way under the land, into the legendary Dungeon of No. The Guardian of the Path is an old monk, who offers riddles to travelers and eats those who cannot answer.
This is the home of the dread half-clown, half-jester Fool, who can both laugh and juggle. You must use your d97,000 to defeat him, and you will be forever remembered in the legends of the City.
The very first time I attempted a Quest of IF, given to me by the Well of Infinite Possibility in this rare visit to the City, I was given this mighty item. Surely it is a sign. |

In a covered wagon along the streets of Jester Park, you will see the shining knight sir wax. Ask him three times for what you need: a branch from the tallest tree in the Fantasy Forest.
Far to the Yesward, walk the Path of Or Maybe Not and far in the distance you will see a great Obelisk rising up: the Obelisk of Tell It Like It Is. The sleepwalking bodies of very tired heroes who have attempted this quest in the past will rise and stumble all around you, but persist on to your goal.
Then finally, you will find your opponent: the Wizard of Accoutrements. He holds the Key of Great Likelihood. You must defeat him and bring the Key back to the City of IF.
*goes off to find wax*
*EDIT* Hello! When I clicked 'I accept', it told me straight away that I had completed my QuIF. I'm not sure if this is supposed to happen or not, so I'm taking another one.

Finally, you must face a Dark Lord of Aha. 'Aha!' he will say to you, but do not be alarmed. He desires more than anything the tree branch. Give it to him and his predations will cease.
Presumably this is meant to happen, as it also tld me I'd completed it the second time. |

Yes, I'm working on having you travel and undergo trials in order to accomplish the quifs, but I don't have that up yet, so right now it's very easy. :)
I just created the Sea of Fame, for those wanting to see (or become) the most famous quiffers...

Hahaha!
# Quiffer Fame
1 The White Blacksmith 120
2 Crossfire 100
3 Key 10
4 Phantomfan 5
Despite the fact that only four people seem to have Quiffed, I am winning!
Key, do you get 5 fame for every quest, or does it vary? |

OK, here's something else you can play around with: a way to choose your character. The idea is you could create a character, and then take it on one of these random quests.
Normally, there would be more choices and some effects based on what you chose (e.g. different attributes like Strength, Intelligence, etc. that would affect your quiffing). But I'm just putting this out there now to get some feedback. Let me know what you think... |

...Wow. Those are... interesting designs, especially for a quest thing. Entertaining, though.
Shouldn't there be a link to the QuIf generator on that page, at least? Other than this thread, there is no way for us to get to it. |
