We had one of these a while back, but I am going to start a new one!

The title is pretty self-explanatory, but, just in case, you have to write a poem and submit it. Please make it no longer than 300 words. There will be two catagories:

Free Verse

Rhyme

Free verse will be judged on creativity, use of literary technique, and depth of thought.

Rhyming poems will be judged on the use of rhythm, rhyme, meter, literary technique, and creativity.

100 fables to the winner of each catagory.

wait... So these need to be DEEP poems?

*is bad at deep poems*

oh well. Here's one that's pretty shallow.

The hunt is on.
The horns do sound.
Form ev'ry direction the noises abound.
Through the forests, the crowds of trees.
We scramble and run, with practiced ease.
The sun shines down.
On foxes and hounds
As a hound finds a fox
Yells, "You're it!"
And becomes a fox.
And the fox is a hound.
And the hunt is on.

I kinda abandoned what little rhyme scheme i had towards the end, but i think it's pretty cool, so why the heck not?

And here's another pretty shallow poem which kinda is getting close to the three hundred word limit. I started writing it around Halloween, and i've been adding steadily ever since.

Salutations from the Graveyard.
We promise we won't bite.
Well, maybe just a little bit.
Just 'cause tonight's tonight.

We're here among the tombstones.
Why don't you stick around?
Among the dancing, curling mists
Ghouls, ghasts and ghosts abound.

Oh pardon my bad manners,
Introductions must be made.
To my left here are the gravediggers
Yes, the ones holding the spades.

As for me, I'm Pestilence.
And behind me here is Death.
And next to him is Nightmare.
But she tells me that you've met.

Oh come on now don't run.
That means we'll have to have a chase,
And that just won't be any fun.
We'd beat you in a race.

Well now you're really in for it;
Why won't you just behave?
Now Bones is gonna throw a fit
You've walked over his grave.

Oh look his hand is popping out
Don't just stand there in fear.
It'll do no good to scream and shout.
You don't want Them to hear.

And out They fly on wings like bats'.
Can't you hear them in the air?
They'll you down for hours, like cats.
Or just take you to their lair.

And now you're near the haunted wood;
It's really quite unique.
If some of you are in the mood,
Why don't you take a peek?

And now you're in a dreadful plight;
What can you really do,
When all the creatures of the night
Run faster than you do?

You've led us quite a chase tonight
Through all the darkest lands
But we haven't even had our bite
And Frank here lost his hand.

You might as well give up your fear,
And stop and see the scenes.
You won't be going anywhere.
'Cause tonight is Halloween!

That was 290 words, before anyone asks.

An Ifian with a good heart
Decided to post up some art.
But her fingers did freeze
when she tapped on the keys
the resulting words merged to make Phart.

About the Folly of Speculation

For some reason I always never
bother to cogitate on things,
or wait for inspiration or think.
I always never bother to plan
and control each minute detail,
or find the right rhythm or ring.

For some reason.

And the blood boils in my veins
and my head begins to fume
like a steaming pot about to burst
from sheer empty nothingness, because...

For some reason.

And I wish I knew, I wish I'd figure
why my thoughts flee precociously,
like grasping for fireflies who spontaneously
bolt with their beautiful lights from out of reach.

And I swear I could tell you, it's on
the tip of my tongue, swirling in
the recesses of my mind, waiting for
me to elicit its serene wisdom and
find the words to express it... oh
if only I could find the words to express it!

What's the use in worrying? My ailment won't find its cure that way.

I was not born of reason, so I will not seek haven in reason.

The Black Birds

Sleek and black, yet voices the do lack

Cunning and swift, yet creative and quick

Symbolizes knowledge and death, what else is left?

Cawing in the night, oh what a fright

But not for me, for you will see

I don’t fear, when they are near

For luck they do bring, for every thing

For me it was good, where ever I stood

Near the black birds

i also have this poem

Drops of due

As the day goes bye,
The clouds drift and sigh
Their tears falling from the sky,
And never growing dry.

Drops of due, that ever renew
Skies of dark-blue blowing thorough
Flashes of light, ever a fright
Is there ever an end in sight?

Here's a short little poem I came up with on short notice. I just saw this thread and decided to put mine in.

And so wicked I shall be,
For heaven holds no place for me,
The eternal fires will ever hold,
A place for me, the mighty, the bold.

So come ye savages, ye sinners, ye smit,
And curse the ground from whence ye hit,
As the astral eyes of the seraph sweep,
Away from God we are herded like sheep.

Just a quick one I came up with.

I sit and stare out in the night,
at the luminous stars filling the sky
I sit and wonder the ever-asked question:
why?

What does it mean to be,
to live, to think and to act?
This question has no answer,
this question is too abstract.

But if someone said that they could tell you,
the meaning and the truth,
would you take the offer?
No matter what would happen to you?

For if you want your answer,
you must take one last breath,
your riddle will be solved,
but you must accept death.

Was hoping to explain what the meaning of life is, and made it somewhat mysterious. Good luck to everyone, and glad I re-joined when I did so I could post this. :lol:

I'm not sure if I can submit more then two poems, I will for now and if that in some way interferes with the rules then I can change my post.

Here are some poems I wrote a long time ago.

-------------------------------------------------

Feel the earth move around you,
Feel the great reaches of space fall silently upon you,
Feel the power of creation itself,
Embrace the life of earth and of all that you have felt,
Come now to the world of infinity,
Your time has come to leave all that is this great vicinity,
Now all is nonexistent,
And you are but another of creations many assistants

-------

See that great light,
Feel the ultimate power,
Sense the greatness that is yet to come,
Follow these things so as you don’t become senseless,
Cling to life or prepare for nonexistence,
The choice is come to by many,
Made by few,
Now you must chose, and only you,
All shall die all shall live,
It shall never be,
There is but one thing to do,
And it may be simply as insignificant a bee,
All will fall together,
But there may never be peace,
Simply remember the choice by you must be

-------

The world has gone mad,
Nothing will survive and nothing will fall within the right hands,
But wait,
There is light,
There is a way out of this terrible blight,
And that is pure love and might,
All good shall prevail,
All evil shall fail,
Everything will heal,
All once again will feel,
The world will rise once more

-------

There is no way out,
Loved ones cry,
As I die,
There will never be a way out,
As I fall,
As I doubt,
I know there is no way out,
But something has changed,
As I reach the ground,
As I think and rejoice,
There comes an eternal and glorious sound,
That of singing and merriment,
I now know that happiness has been found,
And even here,
Dark underground,
Even here happiness can be found

-------------------------------------------------

And here is another poem I have thought up on the spot this fine 4:00 in the morning.

The quite darkness boils all around me,
I'm really not quite sure how it found me,
My life is terror and my death is woe,
It certainly seems that the world itself is my ultimate fo,
Shall I ever escape such a horrible fate,
I suppose I will have to continue doing what I have always done and simply wait,
Wait in such a terrible world that forever emits darkness,
Wait in a world in which there is no light,
Wait in a world in which love is a forgotten dream,
Wait in a world where nothing is as it seems,
There is no ending to this world,
It simply continues in a whirl,
With me in the center being torn apart,
And yet surviving to be tortured another day,
Escape wold require will,
A possession that I do not have,
Something of myth and grandeur and power never to be had,
So I stay in this world in my eternal pain,
Never to leave... never again.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am quite surprised at my rather morbid last poem... but what can I say. Also the last line might not immediately make sense to you, it didn't to me, but a certain understanding may bless you if you take some time to think about the meaning of the poem. I await further clarification on the rules of entry.
Is this competition still running?
It's pretty old but no winner has been stated yet and new posts are in so I'll submit two of my own just in case it is not too late.
Dreamscape:
Life is not a dream.
More like a picture; perfect.
Tainted with imperfections,
Slurry blotches of paint - smeared
To get away from it is a dream
In a dream, the mind;
(Controlled)
Not to think
Touch the scape, land of the minds
My dreamworld of worlds, open to my mind
By my mind
Crushed by my hand;
(Divine?)
I call it the Dreamscape
For it is not my own.
Let it not touch the tainted tongue
For its words may smudge the pallet,
(of life?)
Powerful it is,
You can drown it in yourself
But deceive not,
For your own is in your hand;
Hand of the maker,
Beware,
Mine,
The destroyer.
and
Seek not me out for comfort my love
My arms around you shall not grope
You'll learn emptiness seeps from deep within
To seal out all the pangs of hope.
Wrap yourself in fear, my dove
To shun away the mirth and joy
Contradict the skies above
Make painful wounds your only toys.
Find for you a pit, my dove
Wallow in your despair
Go deeper, darker into abysmal night
Where no one shall find your there.
Let your bones crack upon impact
of chilling agony
From flying alone in a warmthless home
A void without light or me.
Cloak yourself in terror, my love
This flights climactic end
Bone and flesh lost what's inside
Body from spirit you rend,
my now blue-faced, fallen dove.
