Prune every branch but one

You decide that having one beautiful flower is more important than the density of an entire tree, so you prune every other branch but the one which leads to your desired goal. Your single branch thus grows more robustly. Unfortunately, you have put so much energy into this one flower that you have compromised the entire tree. One night a terrible thunderstorm blows and knocks off your flower, leaving you with nothing. The other trees, by contrast, have weathered the storm despite having lost some of their foliage.
