Right, this story has expanded quite a lot more than I thought it would when I started it, so I am 'doing a Smee' and splitting it up a little. The Poll for episode 8 is still running, but I am posting episode 9 now for discussion etc.

Once the poll for ep8 is done I will work on the next chapter whilst the poll for 9 is underway.

Stand by for episode 9...

Okay. Homer and co. are confronted by the angry citizens of Gungle. They have been drinking Gungle wine and are angry at the death of the young woman who ‘outsiders’ did. Homer doesn't wish to harm innocents, but he must protect his party.
Suggestions and comments!

Note (again):
Phang and her part of the story, along with the results of the current vote, and more will continue next chapter.

Good chapter. Cool

Initial thoughts?

I say let Sunbellina do the talking. Nobody could call a lynch mob out after hearing that sweet, twittering little voice explaining things to them. It's the Disney effect Wink

Failing that, the moste potente chamber pot could shower the townsfolk with... whatever was handy. The rest of the party could make the most of the decoy and get by unmolested.

WOOO! Albino drow! wait... does that mean I have bad eyesight....?

Ahh well, thanks Chinaren! Nice chapter Razz

I agree with Ms. Stoat, a rant from little Sunny should set the mob straight; with them either thinking *too cute* or just getting tired and wandering off.

But EH is a paladin, after all. If someone has been murdered by an outsider, he should find out and confront this evil.

Let's tell them that his mission is to defeat evil in all its forms, and ask them about this "outsider" murderer.

Even good has to have priorities though. If his mission against Phang was not a race against time, I'd agree with you. While he gets bogged down in a local murder, though, she could be out there destroying and enslaving all the free peoples of the world.

Whilst EH might slip into his 'destroy evil, all evil, everywhere' routine, he has companions who can remind him of his overall mission. And of the price should he fail.

Nice chapter. I tend to think that Evil Homer would try to find out what the problem was only to discover that the evil had moved on in the direction that he was going. So he would chase it without going out of his way from the first mission.

Okay then, tactical and plot moving-forward episode folks. Whilst we are voting on Homer’s little dilemma, let’s have some ideas on what Phang’s next move should be…

Also, I am looking for more character volunteers please. I need to involve some of the Gnomes’ allies, as well as Human and Elvish forces. Put your name forward in the market thread, free of charge for a random part, or bid for a specific role! Very Happy

Niiiice chapter. Cool

I think, as the Chunder King knows we're coming, the forces have been sent out to give the city of Chunder more time to prepare. It's possible that this is their only mission, and if we make straight for the City, we can take it before they have a proper defence in place.

On the other hand, I don't think we can leave alone an army whose powers we are ignorant of. I think Phang should send out a small party of scouts to the Group with the Mages, with the main brief being that at least one of them gets back to her, to report.

That's all I've got for now. I'll think on it some more...

I love this story so much! Very cool chapter Chinaren!

I agree with Ms. Stoat; that they should try and press forward to capture chundyer, but send some small force to investigate the small mysterious group.

Ahh! What have you done?! I leave for a week and you make me a blonde pink dress wearing little witch?! *deep breaths*

Okay... I'm okay, really. I can deal with this... Okay... *more deep breaths*. It's the pink. I can't handle the pink. I don't care what you say. I'm wearing orange. "Orange is the new pink" That was on a movie. (free fable to whoever knows which movie, first). Every time you write the word pink, I'll just read orange. Okay. *another deep breath*

It was very good, besides the pinkness, but you had no way of knowing that I'm allergic to pink (at least that's what I tell my grandma) so I forgive you. Wink

~sunny

P.S. I voted to send me to talk to the villagers. the whole Disney effect thing.

Sending scouts to check out the small army is good, but if there's a major army to the East we should destroy it before capturing Chundyer. We don't want armies outflanking us, recapturing the pass, or even telling their friends that they survived being close to us. Anyone who comes near us should be destroyed.

Let the defenders of Chundyer wait, and let their fear grow....

Mwhahahahaha!

Congrats you got featured in one of my stories and we'll hear about your many cool adventures in the coming months (yes it is that slow a story).

Go get the large army and leave the city alone for now Smile
Send Phang to go attack the small party while Powers deals with the large army.

Nice chapter.

We should split the forces. I believe it won't harm us, and going after that large army in the east is just what they want us to do. We have to take the city now or we'll fall in their trap and they'll have plenty of time to prepare themselves. If we don't take this chance, they'll be holed up and never come out, and our advantage lost. Probably their intent was to split us, it was a good strategy. Whatever we do, its unfavorable to us. But I think the horde is strong enough to fend for themselves in two groups. Phang should take one army and Powers the other one. Later regroup in the conquered city.

Well, I don’t bloody know, that’s for sure! So it’s up to you lot to provide some suggestions! Let’s have some clever questions for old Witch Stoat whilst you vote for Phang’s next action from last chapter.

Over to you, but remember to check out the Story of a Picture (or SoaP) competition in the experimental forum as well!! Very Happy

Ooooh, nasty decision point. I'm liking it! Cool

Putting aside my initial thoughts of:

What is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?

I can only think of a couple of (not very) good ones. The simple plea for help seems to suit our Paladin's nature:

"Will you help us, please?"

Or:

"Tell me exactly what I need to do to obtain the Black Heart and defeat the forces of evil in this land."

I'll go do my christmas shopping and think some more. Smile

You're asking me to think on Saturday? I just got up, too.

Seeing as he's a paladin and he has to fight evil and he's crunched for time, ask her if Phang is currently moving to assault / maim / destroy any major cities or armies at the moment. That would give him a good idea of who's in danger, and where Phang is.

Alternatively, ask her a question about Sorrow and Idea Master.

Make sure you include that she doesn't have to answer or answer truthfully, but that he would prefer a truthful answer.

Great chapter! Very Happy I particularly liked how Sunbellina dealt with the mob.

Tough decision point. Asking how to defeat Phang is a possibility, but if it's meant to give insight into Homer's character, maybe he should ask something more general/philosophical, like:

"What must I do to defeat evil in the world?"

or

"How can I best serve the cause of justice?"

or even

"What is the root of evil?"

Sorry Chinaren. Author's nightmare, I know... but here's another suggestion:

If the Twisted Stoat doesn't have to answer the question, then Evil Homer would want to concentrate his mind on one of those big philosophical conundrums that have plagued mankind all through the centuries.

Like:

What is the ultimate nature of truth?

or:

Is there any such thing as a truly victimless crime?

Or:

Is it wrong to lie to children about the existence of Santa Claus?
