Ifians!

I will try to be brief, but I can't promise anything Wink

Whoever you voted for, my thanks to those who did! It was great to see the life of this city come out and show itself.

Some of you are residents, some frequent visitors, others just occassional tourists. Some of you are still discovering If for the very first time. All are welcome.

We have a great place here. A place of warmth and friendship, of stories and games, of challenge and learning. But... for some time now we have lived without the support, and guidance of a mayor. I'm pleased to say that ends today, and I begin immediately with an announcement for you all.

Joining me for this term, to help get the city back on track and give everyone here the services and support they deserve, will be the City's first Deputy Mayor. The person in this position will have all the same admin powers I have, and will be taking responsibility for various city projects on my behalf. They will have full discretionary powers to deal with rule breakers as they see fit, only coming to me in the most serious breaches of City rules. In short, all but a second mayor.*

It is my very great pleasure to announce Crunchyfrog will be taking this new role!

Unique to this election, it was evident from the election posts, Crunchy and I share a very similar vision for the city. Regardless of the election voting outcome, the other would always have been available as an advisor to the chosen mayor. We have decided to instead take it a step further with the invention of the Deputy Mayor position.

With two admins the city will have the presence required to really get it moving efficiently. This will mean good things like the Storygame of the Month competition winners can expect to have their new forums up and running quickly, the IFY's will shortly be coming back to the city, several projects will soon be on their way. And perhaps in a negative light to some of you - taxes will be collected on time and regularly! Wink

Too many little details recently have been overlooked, or ignored. Leave them to us, we'll get them sorted. Meanwhile, you guys are free to head off and enjoy Storygaming. Smile

~

Moving Forwards :

In celebration of the election there will officially be no rent required for SGoTM Forums this month. (Not that you've been paying unofficially for the last few months,** well, enjoy it for another month, on us! Wink )

It's springtime, and the city has been left more or less to itself for several months. One of our first duties will be a thorough springclean of the city.

To start with, we're going to have a complete refresh of our City Council (the moderators). The current moderators have done an excellent job, in most cases, and you have great thanks from me. But it is easier to do a full refresh in one sweep and make sure everyone is doing what they want to be.

To work with the new enthusiastic and active Mayoring duo, we want an equally enthusiastic and dynamic Moderating team. Appearing shortly will be job descriptions for all the Council roles. We will be looking for applications for these roles and we'll take on the best candidates. Current moderators are of course welcome to re-apply for their current positions or other positions if they fancy a change.

Note, the moderator roles will be formally expanding slightly. Typically it was to simply keep the appropriate forum tidy, and collect some taxes. We'll be looking for moderators who will also seek to stir up life in their respective areas, whether that's running competitons, spotlights or just generally getting stuck in and involved in the activities in their section.

Once we have our new Council in place and all busy with their feather dusters in their respective city parts we'll begin on some other plans. I look forward to detailing those to you soon. In the meantime, any ideas you do have let us know, particularly if it's a project you're willing to take on yourself. We may not go for every idea, but we're always interested in hearing them.

And of course any questions you might have - the election question time was rather quiet, but you may have more now.

Happy IF'ing Smile

* On advice from our King, we want to leave the system simple, with a clear chain of command should the need arise. Which is why this isn't officially a 'joint mayor' role. We also don't want to complicate the next election. Whether the mayor after me decides to also have a deputy will be entirely between themselves and Key.

** If you have sent payment in the last few days, please request a refund from the Treasury and it will be dealt with.

I’d just like to take this opportunity to congratulate Smee on being elected to his second term. I wasn’t around during his first time as Mayor, but it is clear from the legacies of his previous term that we can have every confidence that IF will be run smoothly and efficiently.

Smee and I will be covering each other during any absences, and will make it very clear who is available, and when.

If you have requests or issues you need Mayoral help on, you may PM either one or both of us. We are working together, so that your PMs can be acknowledged and answered promptly.

In anticipation of refreshing the City Council, a list of Moderator Job Descriptions has been posted in the Technical Institute to give you a flavour of the basic responsibilities and required skills/experience for these roles.

Smee will shortly announce when applications are being accepted for Modship for the April - October 2009 term.

In the meantime, if you have any questions, feel free to post below. Smile

It's not the first time a Mayor has had a minion. Very Happy

C'ren was a great helper! He used to stick medals and awards to the proud breasts of IFians, and also to stand at the Great Wall of Registration and kill all the spambots attempting to get through. Of course the former duty did distract him somewhat, so generally he flattened unwelcome intruders with his great orange hairy body after they'd registered instead. Very Happy

Yes, Smee, Congrats. Since everyone is commemorating the event by going blue, I did my part and switched back to my old avatar.

Very Happy

Congratulations to both of you, and hope you have a great term!

Now, about those link colours... Razz

Awwww, Reiso - I remember that Avatar! Awesome. *chuckles*

The blue avatars are great folks, but I'm not sure blue will also work for the links as well. It's a return to the traditional, oldschool, Ifian orange that I plan on. More than happy to see the AV's to stay blue though Wink

I think blue would look good, though of course, Chinaren Orange* is fine as well.

*Now a patented color.
