*slowly walks over to hole, fills hole with clean clean water, watches Soily jump screaming out of next hole over, grabs belt from distracted Soily*

Thank you so much for the...hey, this thing is filthy! It's going to take me all month just to get the grime and muck off of this! Surprised

I'm glad you all enjoyed my little story. In appreciation, I now offer to give away my 100 Fable prize! All you have to do is answer these little questions about my story. (It's kind of like the Storygame Quiz, except no limit on how many questions you can answer). Here goes.

For 10 Fables
Who are the professors on Mr. Goddard's Defense Committee named after?

For 20 Fables
What is the significance of Mr. Goddard's initials, and what is the 5-syllable word commonly used to refer to them?

For 30 Fables
Who is Philip Johnson and what's his connection with this story?

For 40 Fables
Who was J.B.S. Haldane and what's his connection with this story?

Enjoy! Oh, and I'll start the July contest on Friday, July 1st, so we can get this competition on a regular monthly schedule.

Thanks again!

JBS Haldane - an evolutionary biologist and geneticist. British, too *feels uncommonly patriotic all of a sudden* Very Happy

"If one could conclude as to the nature of the Creator from a study of his creation it would appear that God has a special fondness for stars and beetles."

(but don't give me fables for it, the fun was in looking the answers up)

I got the other ones too (one of them I didn't even need to reference), but why should I have all the fun? Cool

Well, the one I can do without looking

Y.H.W.H.

When God was asked who he was, he replied - 'I am who I am.' or 'I am that I am.'

In Hebrew this is YHWH. With vowels added, this is Yahweh. Pronouced ya-hoo-os-u-a.

Also known as Jehovah.

Forty Fables to Shady.

Hmm, that wasn't quite what I was looking for, lordofthenight. There's a completely separate 5-syllable word that is used to refer to these letters - I wasn't looking for a pronunciation of them. Plus, I've never heard the 5-syllable pronunciation you've proposed, and can't find any independent confirmation (usually, it's a 3- or 4-syllable pronunciation).

But you do get 20 Fables for the Iron Chef answer (some of them are chefs from Iron Chef America).

"Phillip Johnson, a law professor who was a clerk to Chief Justice Earl Warren, is the author of Darwin on Trial and is one of the founders of the "Intelligent Design" movement."

Not a movement I'm a fan of...

*wanders off muttering about irreducible complexity *

30 Fables for Smee.

And a hint for lordy (and Shady, apparently): It starts with a 'T'.

And Lordy gets the last 10 Fables. (I accidentally gave you 20 for the 10-point question before - fortunately, you answered both of them).
