The Storyteller's Dilemma (Complete)

The Evil Dragon

“There once was an Evil Dragon.”

Prince Harold’s interest grew. He looked amused.

“The dragon would fly across the entire kingdom, setting fires to fields and houses, and eating whatever he liked of the livestock and villagers, but what he liked the most was gold. He had a cave high in the mountains, and it was already full of gold, but he always wanted more.

“One day he made a plan to get all of the gold of the entire kingdom. All he had to do was kidnap the Beautiful Princess and hold her ransom. The dragon knew no one would dare try to stop him, except the Brave Knight. But once the Brave Knight was defeated, the others would hand over every piece of gold they had for her safe return.”

“The Dragon soared through thunderclouds and dived upon the palace. He crashed through the walls and reared up in terrible magnificence. And he said,

“‘Surrender the princess or die! I will keep her in my cave until the next full moon, and if all the gold of the kingdom is given to me by the time, I shall release her. Otherwise she shall be burned alive!’”

By this point in the story, Bridget could tell she had Prince Harold’s attention. The next part of the story would be how the people of the palace responded to the Dragon’s demands.

The Beautiful Princess willingly surrendered herself.
The Brave Knight arrived and fought valiantly to protect the Beautiful Princess.
The Evil Dragon killed the guards and took the Beautiful Princess by force.
