#1: Nation States Author: BookwizardLocation: Gallifrey PostPosted: Mon Mar 30, 2009 6:17 pm

I have discovered a very interesting site by the name of Nation States, the link is below. You can simulate your own nation and do a few other things, but all the same its a great site and fun to play. Though it gets limited in the sense that you can not declare war or do anything of that sort, so avid fans of the game have started separate sites to simulate such things and expand gaming possibilities and well as the community. I have become one of these fans and tried my hand at making a site, which I have done to an extent. The link is also below (Mappa Mundi). I would be greatly pleased if members of IF would consider joining this new venture of mine, for I am sure many of you would be interested and would set a great example for other members. Any comments can go below, thanks!

EDIT: the link for Mappa Mundi has now changed, it will take you to Mappa Mundi on nation states and not our main website.

I saw this many moons ago, but my bloodthirsty nature was put off by the lack of warfare, and my nation must have long since starved to death or something.

In response to Algeria, I am Olspher, as for ren, the lack of warfare saddened me as well, so I started a new region and set up a separate site to attempt to have some form of warfare and other things, this is the other reason why it would be great if others joined. I need as many ideas as I can get so as to better improve things, well hope to see you all there.

I have took the liberty of making of Map of Mappa Mundi (My region) if you decide to join you can be added to the map as well. Most of Mappa Mundi is currently at war with Caster, the nation at the top.

So I'm now on there as the 'Holy Empire of Lestahland'.

Because 'Leicester' was taken and I have no imagination.

OK guys! I currently have my motto as 'Apudne te vel me?', but should I change it to 'Scio es, dicavis es, sed quidne sum?'

And ten fables to whoever can tell me what both of them mean!

Gah, those free online translators. Not a hope! Either you or me, maybe, and the other one I haven't a clue.

Still, these might be good 'uns. Smile

Always where under where (perhaps change it to 'Semper gere'? No idea on how to say 'underwear' though)

and

Seize the fight!

No online translator or nothing! I knew learning Latin would come in handy one day. By the way, you were right on the 'You or me' bit, but you got apudne wrong. I'll give you a clue: -ne on the end of anything makes it a question.

Someone told me Carpe Puga was grab ass. I looked at it on an online translator and it said pluck buttocks ROFL

The other one is mock latin I think, for always wear underwear...

Yeah, yeah, back to the writing. 574 words now. Razz

Well Apudne te vel me? is At the house of you or me? or Among you or me? Interestingly enough, there's no verb.

The second one is something like I know you are, but what am I but i can't remember dicavis.

You got the first one right. I meant it as 'Your place or mine?', since I think being able to flirt in Latin is the ultimate in social snobbery. 'Dicavis' is from 'dico', so means 'you said'. I'll give you the fables anyway, though.

lol, I actually joined Nation States last year as part of an Intl Politics Course at my school. I eventually gave up on it but I started up on Nation States 2 recently on the continent of Dictatoria on World 113 under the Nation name of: Hans Asperger.

Ehhh, can not someone provide a link here to the wiki/forums?

A single link directly there, that'd be madness...!

Much better to follow the link to the Region page in Booky's sig, then follow the link there that takes you to the home page that has a link to the page that has a link to the forums, and another link to another page with a link to the wiki.

I played this 'game' some time ago. I found it to be too unrealistic in it's mechanics & outcomes to keep my interest.

Don't forget the join the forums to! Oh, and in TruePurple, yes its unrealistic, in once sense, and much more realistic in another, well at least the way I look at it, it is. All the issues end up being a bit more extreme, but this is necessary and effectively keeps it from being overly complicated and yet still embody's the personal beliefs of one person expressed through their nation.

Unless you're deliberately playing a psychopath, one would hope.

Also, fixed!

I'm not talking about how extreme outcomes are, the direction of results based on decision-what generally happens to your country when you make X decision, that is what I found most unrealistic from what I recall.

You know, I think that everybody stumbles upon good nationstates in their own time. I think all roads through the net go through it.

How many nations I've started, built, loved, forsaken, forgotten, lost... I can't even tell you.

: ) While you play with roommates it can be incredibly fun. Otherwise... the lack of warfare and sheer crush-others-ness which from time to time makes a game memorable is lacking.
