In the fire ravaged field the commander sends out a group of men he knows will not survive their task. They die willingly though, knowing that their sacrifice will keep their loved ones safe for another day. The battlefield is filled with the sounds of weapon's fire and the cries of the dead and dying. In the distance the combatants can hear it approaching, the "Death Suit" that will kill them all if they can not turn it back, it's thunderous footsteps the heart beat of the battle. The group advances, their eyes filled with anger and hated for the machine they can not yet see, and their hearts filled with the courage to die for what they believe in.

"Reynolds! Take the rocket!" Commander Yusuf yelled to his sargeant over the sound of the plasma guns. Yusuf knew it was their only chance against the Death Suit.

"Reynolds! Take the rocket!" Commander Yusuf yelled to his sergeant over the sound of the plasma guns. Yusuf knew it was their only chance against the Death Suit.

"Ai sir!" Comes the response from somewhere off to the commander's left. Yusuf keeps his eyes on the field, reading it almost like a strategy board. In his minds eyes the living breathing men become undefined colored figures as he plans the best way to deploy them. Looking to the group he sent off he prays they will be in place once the rocket is ready. In the dust cloud in the distance the shadowy outline of their target can be seen like a monster in a fog.

Wait, said the voice in his head. It was a peculiar admonition, and wholly unnatural. Where did it come from, he wondered. His radio had long since been broken, and he could distinguish a shout from a . . . voice—he wasn't that far gone.

He grants himself a moment to look around, seeing if someone was to blame for the invasion into his thoughts. However soon enough the real sounds of the world around him take precedent and his eyes return to the battlefield. All of the pieces begin to fall in place, like little wodden figures on a board. He opens his moth to give the signal when, once again, he hears it. . .Wait.

He feels like calling out, asking who it is inside his mind, but he knows he can't. The troops would think him mad. 'Not the kind of distraction they need right now. Such a thing could get the lot of them killed' So instead he calls for them to hold position. Those nearest pass the message as he closes his eyes to think. Directing his thoughts, or so he hopes, to the place the voice comes from he thinks, ~Who are you, and why do you tell me to wait? Waiting could get them all killed!~

Directing his thoughts, or so he hopes, to the place the voice comes from he thinks, ~Who are you, and why do you tell me to wait? Waiting could get them all killed!~

And then it happened...

From high above there is a growling sort of roar and through the dust filled air a fleet of small flying devices appear. No larger than a very small car their beating wings create a loud humming noise and as they turn, moment for hitting the soil, Yusuf stares with his mouth open wide unable to believe what he's seeing. The technology for flight was lost long ago, and while these devices are nothing like the ones he's seen pictures of in museums they are no doubt machines built to give one the ability to leave the earth behind and take to the skies. Moving like a well trained squadron the fleet of twelve flying machines charge into the dust cloud around the death bringer, the flash of weapons all the men can see of the encounter.
