Very nice chapter - I didn't see the attack coming, and it was exciting and well-written.

One of the rules I live by is, "Always honor a dying magical bear's last request." As far as what to eat, I vote for the heart - it's not quite the heart of a lion, but it ought to do the trick (whatever trick that may be). As far as how to eat it, I'm torn on whether cooking will ruin the magical mojo or not.

Also, I'd bury the rest of the bear, both out of respect and I'd rather not have magical bear parts lying around for just anyone to munch on.

Nice chapter Key. I still like the first person style. It's a nice change of pace. I didn't realize when i commented on your Chapter Two that not many stories have this style in the City of If.

This definitely takes it to another level, and you make it more realistic with your details that you include.

I knew we should have talked to the bear in the dream, wouldn't have been so irritable. :) As for which organ to eat... I kind of agree with Powers. Heart, ceremony, leave the desert before the Scarpi's come across you. BUT... then again i also think that the bear claw is where the essence of a bear is. Why else would they name a pastry after it?

As Powers said, "heart of a lion". All animals have parts that encompass what they have best e.g. ears (sonar detection) of a bat, eyes of a tiger, brains of an owl.

That being said, i think i will vote on the illustrious BEAR CLAW! :smile:

On a purely practicle basis, eat the liver. It's nutricious and can be eaten raw.

I like eyes. Eyes are good - you might see some interesting things.

I also like claw: as Sir Wax said, it seems somehow more...fundamental to a bear than the others. Plus: crunchy!

The liver's quite large. Blood woud last, but it wouldn't exactly be filling.

yay! i love prizes! Especially one that reflects my finer points. :P

I find it funny that no one yet has opted NOT to eat the bear's anything. No one seems to have a problem with eating something that is not in Deicia's food chain. o-)

The repercussions of eating anything of the bear could end in Deicia having temporary insanity because of this. So we must choose carefully. We shouldn't eat the bear's one part for food, we should eat the bear organ part for what it will change in Deicia. We can kill lizards for that or other sand bunnies or dune deer for food. We can use the arrows that we halfway killed the bear with.

Hence, when we vote, i think that the ones that we should consider are:

Claw (of course :-D )
Heart
Blood
Brain

I don't opt for the eyes because we don't necessarily see with our eyes, we see with our minds, hence why i put Brain there. However, a lot of what we see and experience are in the blood and Heart.

We must choose wisely...

I'll have you know that in many cultures it is thought that eating the jolly todger will give you virility and strength and so forth. It's no stranger than the heart, and at least you can put it in a hot dog bun.
