Poetic Rhapsody

These are a selection of my own poetry. Firstly, I will warn you that some of them contain some pretty graphic, and dark content. Secondly I would like to thank Thunderbird for his encouragment of me doing this. I don't think I would have had the confidence to do it otherwise. Thirdly, I hope that you enjoy my work. Thanks for reading! :)

Hate to start off on a depressing note, but despite the morbid theme of this poem, I believe that it is a good poem, and I'm proud that I wrote it.
I wrote it when I was feeling depressed, and it's strange, but I find that I feel at my most creative when I feel this way.

Drained

You sink into your darkest thoughts,
And finally give in to the madness of your mind.
Slide down the wall, to the floor,
At the despair that you might find.
The tempting feel of soft, white skin,
The flash of cold, hard steel,
And then the beginning of relief,
From all the pain you feel.
The numb ache, as you drain,
And pool crimson upon the floor.
Sleep takes sudden hold,
And then you feel no more.

This one, again, is not a very nice subject, but a very real one. It is about something that is very close to my heart, and though there is a slight fantasy twist, I hope that the true message gets through.

Ugliness Destroys Beauty

I am a fluffy, white seal pup,
Ublureak my name is, it means star,
After the great shining lights,
Up in the sky, so very far.

I slip and slide, on ice and snow,
Lonely, but fun all the same,
Waiting for my mother to return,
But something stops my little game.

Stark against the pure, white snow,
In the distance I can see,
A creature tall, on two legs,
Running swiftly towards me.

Eyes full of malice and greed,
A great club held towards the sky.
Fear comes, to late, I try to flee,
The club comes down, and I let out a cry.

This brutal hunter, and his cruel weapon,
Over and over they bludgeon me.
The pain, so intense, and it seems,
As everlasting as the sea.

But now the pain and suffering is over,
My spirit lives and is floating free,
And I can see the hurt imposed,
Upon other seal pups like me.

I look down upon my broken body,
Naked now of it's beautiful, soft white,
All that is left is the blood and raw,
That it formerly kept out of sight.

Even now, with the clouds as my bed,
My ocean the deep, blue sky,
I still do not understand,
Why?

The next poem is more or less pure fantasy, and, you may notice that I have used the first two lines as the location for my avatar.

My Wolf Spirit and Me

I am running through the plains of my mind,
My wolf spirit at my side.
The ground beneath my feet is my path,
And the wind is my guide.

With endless energy we run,
We leap and bound, wild and free.
Spurred on by passionate joy,
We are one, my wolf spirit and me.

Now a wish for peace has come,
We lie beneath a shady willow tree.
Shafts of sunlight pierce through the canopy of leaves,
Their warmth gently carressing me.

Night arrives with serene silence,
Nearly the end of what has come to pass.
I rise from my resting place,
Brushed lightly by the fronds of grass.

To my prior path we now return,
Back to the beginning we go.
There, we part ways, my wolf spirit and I,
But I will be back, I know.

This last one I wrote quite a few years ago. But despite that, I still like it, as do Tats and the rest of my family. So I decided to put it in.

Forest Majesty

The forest is silent,
And still.
Nothing moves, nothing stirs.
And then,
Through the trees,
there...a flash,
Orange as the evening sun,
Moving slowly towards me.

Eyes like golden pools of light,
Piercing as knives,
Fur like dancing flames,
Glowing like embers,
Majestic grace,
Power and strength,
Eyes staring, outlined black as jet,
As if to see into my soul.

It moves closer,
Watching me all the while.
It's breath a mist in front of it's face,
But those eyes shine through,
Never leaving my face.

It stops, it stares,
And then,
Silently as it came,
It leaves,
And it is gone, vanished,
Like a ghost into the green,
And I am left alone,
In silence and stillness, once again.

Okay, that's it for now. Hope you liked them. Feel free to comment whether you did or not. Thanks for taking the time to read them!
Tika x ;)

I loved these all! And, in particular, I'm blown away by the power and depth of your expression in that first one. Really glad you posted that and didn't leave it out. Probably is the best of the four. That said, I can see why you feel reluctant... it definately speaks to the side of us that wouldn't mind the ticket out of here and let it not become a seed to grow into something real for someone. Still, it was beautiful and straight from the depths of emotion so I think it an amazingly valid expression.

In fact, all of these come from emotional places within and I found them all profound, while each covered an entirely different tone.

Fantastic stuff here Tika. Thanks for sharing.

Poetic Rhapsody - Set 2

Got four new poems! Hope you like them! Thanks for reading! :D

Fallen

You wander desolate fields.
While the wind sings it's song.
Guilt, Grief, Fear,
You know you've done wrong.

Clinging to you,
These feelings, these fears,
Unwashed away,
By all of your tears.

You picked the wrong,
Of your two choices.
Inside, your head thumps,
With the sound of your voices.

Shouting and screaming inside,
Then you cry,
"Why did I do it?
Why? Why?"

You fall to your knees,
Hands covering your face.
Your regret has come to late.
You've fallen from grace.

Fury

Furious fire burning,
Deep within my soul.
Unrelenting it rages.
Seemingly unquenchable thirst,
To destroy and distort,
All feelings and thoughts.
Surrounded by the solid wall,
That is my pride.
Protected from all,
Sense and reason.
It burns, it burns!
But to what end?

Despair

I sit slumped hopelessly,
Against the wall.
Tears run endlessly,
Streaming, like tiny rivers,
Down my cheeks,
Before falling, down, down,
Into my open palms.
My gut churns and roils,
In turmoil,
Swirling, like a whirlpool in the ocean,
So much that it aches.
And my heart aches too,
As though clasped in the hand of the devil.
I rake my fingernails down my face,
As if to give purpose,
To the pain I feel.
Then it occurs to me,
I could end it now.

Right, enough of that. I must sound like a complete and total emotional wreck! Finishing on a lighter note, the last poem I wrote when I was thirteen years old, so the critics out there will have to forgive the inaccuracy of some things, like the fact that some of the animals would never get the chance to see one another in the wild. There is an underlying message to the poem, which is easy enough to work out from the title.

Happy With Me!

I am a sloth, just a sloth,
Moving slowly from tree to tree,
Clinging to the branches with my long, curved claws,
Eating all the juicy leaves I see.

I cannot run like the graceful antelope,
I cannot jump like the kangaroo,
I do not have colours like the brilliant macaw,
Red, yellow, green and blue.

I do not have stripes, like the flame-coloured tiger,
Or the zebra, in colours of black and white.
Nor do I have spots like the beautiful leopard,
Or the peacocks plumage, what a sight!

I cannot hover, like the jewel-like hummingbird,
Or float like the fluttering butterfly,
I am not powerful like the great gorilla,
I do not have the wolf's incredible cry.

So......
I cannot run or jump or skip,
I don't have beautiful colours for all to see.
But I don't care, not at all,
Because I'm perfectly happy with me!

That's it for now. Once again, thanks for taking the time to read them. Till next time...... ;)

You posted these during a moment of downtime for me and they were too numerous to read at the time but... now I have :D

The first was... excellent... all too resonant with me. Very powerful and well portrayed.

The second was very much the same, really captured the essence you were seeking.

The third seemed a little wandery but it made its point well.

I really liked the fourth... perhaps the basis of a children's book? I would think it would be the sort of thing children's book publishers look for.

*edges in slowly*

I'm not a fan of poetry... but TB's comment about the last one made me cast a glance at it, and I do have to say it is excellent. A little polish here or there perhaps (repetition of like at one point for example), but otherwise great.

And going on from TB's comment about it being a good one for a kid's book - it carries that great message that you can be quite happy with yourself despite others around you perhaps having prettier stripes etc. A fantastic message to try and get across these days, where unless kids are wearing the latest trainers their life isn't worth living in their eyes.

Happy Writing :)

Thanks for your comments guys. I really appreciate them! :D
I love the childrens book idea! I'd never thought about it before, but as soon as I read about it, my head was filled with ideas for illustrations. It really is something to think about. And if it works out, I will personally come and see you, and give you both a hug!

When I next post a set of poems, I plan to vear away from the emotional stuff and concentrate more on my imaginative ability, which I am perfectly capable of doing, just being lazy! :laf:

Try and get some on there for the middle of next week. Again, thankyou for your comments. It means alot that you even take the time to read them. ;)

Here's my third set. As promised, I've stayed away from the dark stuff! :) Hope you enjoy! Thanks for reading! (By the way, the dragon artwork is of my own creation!)

Dragonflight at Sunset

I stand upon the edge of my mountainside home
The falling glow of the setting sun
Glints and glitters over each claw and scale
Like violet mirrors, every one

My great crowned head, my eyes of sparkling gold
There is none of greater beauty than I
I stretch out my magnificent magenta wings
And take off into a vermillion sky

Sweeping through the clouds
Leaving them streaming behind me
Ribbons of peach and gold
As I assend, wild and free

I twist and turn, in graceful harmony
Through the shafts of light
The last of the suns rays touch the earth
Before giving way to night

Now darkness has arrived
And the end has come to my sunset roam
Back on my mountainside I land
Once again I am home

This next poem was inspired my a real morning in my garden, the 1st of December of this year. The birds were squabbling over the apples, and the little squirrel was sitting upon the wheelbarrow, an apple held in his paws. There was no snow that day. But as I looked out at it, I imagined that there was, completing a magical picturesque scene.

Winters Call

I look out of the window
Upon a quite crisp winters morn
Frozen droplets cling to the grass
Shining with the light of dawn

The naked branches of the trees
Gnarled, bare arms reaching towards the sky
A fat grey squirrel huddled at the roots
While a little robin red-breast flits cheerfully by

The ever green ivy twists and turns
Up the trunk of a majestic oak tree
Each leaf laced with glittering frost
And each shining, black berry plain to see

In the apple orchard, the trees
Have let their wares fall to the ground
And the birds are feasting
Upon all there is to be found

Now the squirrel has left the tree roots
And ventured out, in his paws a prize
He sits atop the wheelbarrow
And eats his fallen apple, with greedily shining eyes

Then to my wonder and delight
Silently snowflakes begin to fall
Soon they blanket the frosty ground
'Tis the nature of the winters call.

Laviathan and the Moon

She lies,
Sleeping silently, in her watery depths
And so she shall remain,
Till the time comes to feed again.

The moon rises.
She wakes to voracious hunger.
The orb shines down from starry skies,
And, leaving her bed, she begins to rise.

Up and up she goes,
Drawn by the moon's serene light
She breaks the surface of the waves,
And leaves her home of crystalline caves.

Eyes of gleaming gold,
Her elegant body twists and coils,
Moving through the ocean, with serpentine grace,
Moon and starlight shining upon her scaled face.

Scales of iridecent blue,
Mimic the glittering of the waves.
She lifts her her head, and howls a greeting to the moons light.
Then she sets off, to feed, into the night.

Once again, thanks for reading and I hope you liked them. Comments and constructive critisism welcome. Till next time. Later!

Those were some nicely creative poems. Even though not specifically about emotions per se, they were still emotionally evocative. (Though I do like the dark stuff ;) )
