Introducing the City of IF Catchup Challenge!

I'm going to be running a city funded promotion in addition to the Stimulus Program that some of you long term authors out there may find attractive to take part in.

Starting next week sometime, I will offer 100 fables per chapter for anyone who catches up on a selected storygame over the course of the next week beyond.

Not only will IFians who want a piece of this bonus need to read each chapter up to the last and offer a commentary post at completion, they will need to answer a short trivia test to show that they have not just posted having read the last chapter.

The only downside is that those who have shown they have been keeping up with the story all along will not be eligible for the fable award for completing the challenge (so you know I'm not trying to earn extra fables myself here. ;) )

The trick, then, is figuring out which storygame to present for the first Catchup Challenge. I hope to run these weekly.

So we're going to hold an auction.

If you'd like to have your SG featured in the first round of the Catchup Challenge, put forth your bids here (and start forming a list of about 10 questions to test that the readers have read your story.)

Starting Bid is at 100 fables and may only be increased in increments of 10 fables. You may bid higher than just 10 fables more than the previous bid.

Do I hear 110?

I was wondering why only one view had reached this thread - I hadn't made it visible to all yet... duh  Anyhow... lets try again then, shall we? lol

As it has been 363 days since I posted my last chapter of Door Handle, I'll say that anyone would be eligible for this - even Shillelagh, because much of what he's read over on his forum is quite different from what is here.

In fact, if DH gets featured as the catch-up then I'll match whatever is paid out from the Treasury if that member has never posted in the thread before. That means that nobody is excluded.

Now I've got the fables to do this, but perhaps our new Mayor might consider a two-tier reward for those starving authors with barely two Strata-Gems to rub together. ;)

So, I bid 120 Fables. :)

Oh, and in forum settings, it's Edit = REG, Delete = REG - if you want to avoid people double posting in order to edit what they wrote. :P

How can we catch up if most of your stories is taken off CF? Valid point, No? I don't bid any furter. Well, I'll settle for one good reader, then. I already asked for an AD, So I'm already satisfied with what I have. Not like I've been going anywhere lately. :P
I'll have to read the chapters, but I'm already stuck o Thunder's story. :-o

This is actually a great way to get older stories you may have been working on back up and off the ground again.

And sheez, BBS, outbid at 120? The readers are standing to make thousands of fables from the treasury's side of things. (and as so many have been pointing out... how much can we accomplish with fables right now anyhow? This is meant to add some value to our currency!)

But that's ok cuz you'll get more chances. At one a week, these should cycle pretty quickly.

Do I hear 130?

Darn. Judging by the thread's title, I was hoping we'd be bidding for some red tomato sauce. :D

Are you sure they don't serve fries here?

I have run 4 storygames all together. One is The Hangover, which is completed and is in the Tales of IF forum.

The second was The Magician's Touch, much of which has been taken down because it is being revised.

The third was a speed storygame, which got deleted after it fell inactive (as many non-starters often did, in those days)

The fourth is Door Handle, which is the one I am putting forward for the Catch up Challenge. It is currently in its 7th chapter, so you'll get 700 fables for reading it all, and 1400 if you're reading it for the first time. :D

So, uh lets make that 130 fables, a coke, and fries to go. :P

(editz to add - nice shiny editz button is back. Mmmmm!)

400 for Tempora Crepusculi.

I've been working on a new chapter in my downtime, and it's almost ready. More fans would give me a harder kick in the butt to work on it, and keep working on it.

o.O?!

I would have put something up for Nightmares if I didn't see C'ren's bid. Maybe I will too. I just need to go on a fable earning rampage. ;)

I was wondering when that type of bid was going to come into play, C-Ren. I can't compete with you or Crunchy, but at the very least I can make sure it will be more expensive than a few measly hundred.

1,500 for TC. That's as high I can go. I expect that now we will get to see Crunchy and C-Ren duke it out.

well I cant think of a more deserving SG that would benefit from the catch up challenge than TC.
Think of the SHAME the author would have to endure if he didn't write another chapter if he won.

*waits*

Sold to the bidder in blue over there - Shillelagh, paying 1500 fables for Tempora Crepusculi!

Please go ahead and make your payment with the City Treasury, Shill. And if you would come up with a quick 5-10 question 'exit exam' to test those who've 'caught up' with your story, that'd be great! Please post your exam in the City Center. :)

And this serves, also, as an announcement! Tempora Crepusculi is currently on its 8th chapter.

That means that until we have another auction winner, or until one week has past, whichever is greater,

There is an 800 fable award for reading and comprehending all 8 chapters of Tempora Crepusculi, adding a post to the last chapter and answering Shill's questionaire correctly.

I know Shille just posted his 8th chapter and some of us went through and read the whole thing just a couple days ago - I'll let those slide through but those of us who've been there all along do not qualify for the catch-up award.

Please send your answers to Shillelagh, and Shille, please send the treasury notification of any winners.

Now then, the bidding begins again immediately! This round's bidding starts at 150 fables.

Do I hear 160?

'cuse me, pardon me. Allow me to slip in here between all of the bidding.

I'm assuming it's the "City of IF Treasury" that joined back in Dec '05? Can do. But could he please post a thread somewhere so he's a bit easier to find next time? That'd be nifty.

The questionaire will be posted within a few hours, and it will be located within the TC subforum.

Finding the treasury is quite easy. Just go to the Member list and sort by fables - its always top on the list (descending).

But having him post somewhere could be helpful, yes.
