For some reason I've been having trouble connecting to the site today.
I have gotten a pure white screen when visiting this morning and then wasn't able to connect at all for several minutes this afternoon.
I am not having trouble on any other sites and do not appear to have a connection problem on my end
Obviously it's working again now... |

Key has been made aware of some slowdowns lately and is probably fiddling with things to try to resolve them. |

Sorry to disappoint, but there really isn't much fiddling to do other than complaining to the hosting provider (which I have done). I'll let you know if they're able to figure anything out, but definitely keep me posted if things don't get better. I can apply more pressure, or if necessary move to a new provider. |

I keep getting logged out quite frequently. It could be that my connection is bad, but it hasn't really happened to me this often before. |

I had the connection timeout 10 minutes ago. I had to close and log in again. This is getting quite frequent. |

Looks like at least in my case it's not just city's host that is having issues :x |

OK. It looks like we have an option to upgrade. This would involve backing up the entire site and then uploading it to another, newer server. There would be a temporary disruption - the site would be down for a day or so - but in theory, everything would be restored, and with better stability and performance.
If we keep having problems, we'll try that. Keep posting here if there are more timeouts and errors. |

It would be nice to time this right... seems lowest activity would be... hmm... thursday?
Would this give us more data storage room? For some things I'd like to see happen that would be a good thing if it did. I don't know if we have limits here or not... |

I find it hard to believe that changing server is what is recommended here.
If IF is on a shared server, and it's having CPU etc issues, then some other site on that server is causing problems. They should sort this out.
I'd check out other hosting services before upgrading with the same ones Key. This doesn't seem like an acceptable option to me.
If it's a DB issue, then same thing. The host should be looking at this. I had the same before, and I moved hosts. Problem solved. |

Well, we've been using the same hosting tools for at least five years, so it wouldn't surprise me if the server is just an old one and that's what's causing the problem. We could move hosting providers, but that would require us to back everything up and republish anyway, so let's see if this works first.

There could be a lot I need to do to get the site back up again, so I'm trying to time it for Friday or the weekend so that I'll have time to get things running, especially if things go wrong.

We do have some limit, but we've never gotten close to hitting it, so I've never worried about it. |

Perhaps this can be wrapped up in with the PhPbb3 upgrade Key? we could try to upgrade IF and possibly the hosting provider . providing that it will not cause much conflict with what we already have |

Change your host provider or your payment way of the host, that is what we did, everything smoothed out after that. |

The phpbb3 decision is separate. I'm talking about upgrading the servers that our software is running on, an upgrade to phpbb3 would be changing the software itself.
This Friday is a possibility. What do you think? |

I suppose that would work. |

This Friday is going to be a little crazy at work, so I'm going to try to do it for next Friday. If things go well, it should only be down for 8 hours or so... |
