Yahoo

The downing of the sunset shone in the drowsy men’s eyes as they wearily trudged into Vlusos through one of the smaller city gates. At the same time, enourmous fireworks spout from the failing evening sky as a huge tower and an inmensity of men approached from the main gate. Yahoo looked knowingly torwards where the bright spectacle was occurring.

Idiot, he mumbled to himself.

Well, at least he knew that there was one who thought himself a grand master that he would have to prepare for. This grand master would never know that he had even existed until it was too late. Therein lies the essence of strategy…surprise, and defeating your enemy without ever battling him.

Yahoo looked down sadly at his battered body. Exhausted from the trip, he had taken a more comfortable position in the caravan, but now he sat up and looked outside to catch a full glance of this wondrous city he had been told about all his life. He was a middle aged man now, tanned by the desert sun, and his greyish beard, going uncut for many years tumbled down to his chest. Still stricken by love in his old state, he still hoped to find the woman he had sought for years and years in this city. He stared at the passing streets in awe…the whole city basically reeked of cultural richness and Magic.

Market stalls with all different sorts of races attending them, and all different kinds of food and merchandise lined the busy streets. He watched as a man sold baby dragon eggs, and hatched them in an incubator for those too inpatient to wait. Yahoo settled his old bones back as he lay down on the cold hemp mattress he had bought for his spine in this specific journey. His disciple lay asleep behind him. Yahoo nudged him with his foot. The boy shuddered and opened his eyes suddenly. The older man pointed at the open flap in the caravan and the boy rushed out. Yahoo watched with pleasure as the boy returned, smiling vividly. If it had been a shock for Yahoo, imagine how it was for this boy, grown up in the desert.

The boy jabbered quickly as he pounced back and forth, informing the old man of all that went on. Yahoo removed his blue elongated hat from his head. Nervously, he rubbed a small bald spot on the top of his scalp. He pulled out a comb from his broad white linen pants and brushed his hair the other way, covering this source of embarrassment. Yahoo was a firm believer that only old fool’s would wear those old antiquated robes. They thought it commanded respect…but think of how hard it is to move in those…

Yahoo scratched at his face as he received the all so important information supplied to him by his young disciple, who acted also as a servant.

“Lookit, a candey shoup! They sell aul kinds of whoppers there! Theay sure look sweet, mister. Will you jest look at all them childs gauthering ‘round.”

“Tell the driver and the escort to stop, lad.” said Yahoo smiling.

The boy gave a jump for joy and gave a mighty roar to the driver.

“Halt! Halt, I tell you!”

He made himself heard amid the confusion somehow, and the caravan stopped in it’s tracks. The small escort halted as well. The men resting in the back looked up in confusion at Yahoo. The tall man, dressed in a dashing blue and white combo, accentuated by his dark greyish hair and tall hat, calmy pulled out a silver coin from his pocket and handed it to the boy. He flew out of the wagon and sped through the hypnotizers and the jewelers. Soon, he was back, with a bag full of candy.

Yahoo poked curiously at it as he signaled for the men to resume the journey.

“Let me try the one that looks like a lizard, boy.”

The time passed, with nothing interesting to narrate except for some more fireworks or illusions that concluded in a grand finale, made by some fool who thought that to prove himself worthy he must show everyone how powerful and superior he was.

By the time they reached the tavern they had agreed to lodge in, most shops were closed, except for restaurants and a few others. Even at this hour, the night life continued outside, and people walked around telling jokes and talking.

Yahoo paid and dismissed the ten men and the caravan that had escorted them before entering the warm tavern. As they entered, they walked through a magic bubble keeping the heat inside. The change was drastic. Yahoo took his hat and jacket off. He walked over to the barkeeper and owner of the so called ‘Wormy Dog’ amid unconcerned eyes.

He quickly rented a room for two or three months and paid one in advance. After putting everything down in the room, and unpacking everything, Yahoo and his disciple went down for a small dinner before resting.

They sat down in one of the table’s near the corner and ordered some lentles and dry biscuits. As they were eating, three rough looking men came over and asked if they could sit by us for a while. Yaho assented with a queer nod. Perhaps he already knew they were coming for trouble.

At first they showed themeselves friendly, and talked about inconsequencial things. They asked a few questions about Yahoo, where he came from, if he was participating in the tournament, etc… Yahoo seemed reluctant to give any information.

Suddenly, one of the men recognized him.

“Waittaminute…I know ye. Yer that dumb emflikar that wes rollin around in thu streets. I remember ye were gettin kicked aroun’ and all, and then this whore came and picked ye up an helped ye and all, ain’t ye? I remembarr, that was back in ’13…I remumber as clear as ice, I was down south…”

Yahoo didn’t reply. The young boy next to him grew indignant.

“Harr, Harr,” laughed another” I betya he’s a jomakar now…probably thianks himself tough.”

Soon they all joined in racous laughter. It echoed in the room, attracting onlookers. This had gone on for enough time. If he was going to be respected here, he had to show everyone he meant buisness… but how exactly to smash these fools?

yay! first post! well, i dunno what we should do - what sort of stuff have we got with us?

Anyhoo, we wanna beat Smee on spelling correctness, so here goes :) :

enourmous: enormous,

"Lookit, a candey shoup! They sell aul kinds of whoppers there! Theay sure look sweet, mister. Will you jest look at all them childs gauthering ‘round" i guess this is said with an accent, which explains the writing?

tabern: you said this twice instead of tavern - was this a mistake, or is a tabern something you get in america. I know the Latin is taberna, so it makes sense i guess

hehe, now you hate me :)

Araex-

I corrected the tavern thing, but I can't find where I wrote enormous.

The glowing ball in the picture is necessary for publicity...remember this is a magicians tale.

If you have a better suggestion, just tell me. Besides, just because Yahoo is a strategist, doesn't mean he can't use magic...It just means he doesn't like to use it! :D

What do we have? Anything you want!

From punching the guy in the nose to destroying the whole tavern...but remember, all we want to do is knock up this rif raff a little bit...not destroy the whole world! :D

One suggestion would be to magically levitate objects and then magicaly throw them at those guys. Or maybe we could materialize a brick in front of their face as they are running....ouch...

Chainfire- C'mon, a little more enthusiasm! :D

Do you seriously have no ideas?

Well, anyway, thanks.

O sorry D. When I posted that message I had just finished class and was a little out of it.

I say he shouldn't do any violence at all, just outsmart them. Make them think the world's topsy turvy and the only way to make it right is by standing on their heads or something.

Besides that would be a waste of magic to use it on them.

Use your magic to covertly tie the laces of there footwear together. Or send the boy quietly under the table to do it. Then provoke them, levitate a pot of stew or a large draught with a big foamy head on it, conveniently in there way, and enjoy the satisfaction as they fall face first into it.

Haha, all good ideas...

Chainfire, this would be a good time for Yahoo to practice his magic...he hasn't in many years.

I like the ideas, especially the shoelaces and the upside down world.

Well, a two more days or so for our last member to catch up and then we I'll post the poll.

Oh by the way, I made the pic bigger
