I need all users participation, I am making a crafting book as an experiment
What are the best sculpting tools to use when making smaller dolls or medium dolls with lots of details?
Often these chavant clay is packaged into a cylindrical form. Easily heat it up under a spot light or in a microwave for 2-2:30 minutes, heat up until soft, not too long or it will burn when in liquid form. You however can colourise a chavant clay after melting it in a pot. However after colouring it, you have to let it cool down. It's not wise to touch whilst hot. When sculpted the hot chavant clay can be put into a fridge or freezer to harden it. However don't leave it in the freezer. The freezer is used for easy hardening of the sculpt. The fridge is a more slower cooling choice, a choice not to be overlooked.
Testing objects is a must with sculpting and doll making.
Like resin, when I started out, I had tested the length of hardening. After that I tested acrylic paint in the resin. It came out badly, unseemly bubbles, cracks and dull shine. When it has a flat surface the clear resin, it can be shined up. Use three different sand- emery paper 1000,1100 and 1200, use water and scrape from 1000 to 1200 to smooth it out. It'll surprise you, but the dull matt will become smooth and shiney like glass. It's unbreakable, but can be scratched.
I have to use pigmentation and powders to color the resins. Resins have different types of hardening times, setting time and demolding time.
The best clay to use is heat-able clay called Chavant Klay Y2 used for cars. An industrial modeling clay. Klay Y2 is used to sculpt metal pieces or broken car parts to re mold and form the pieces needed. (proof from internet needed) (graphs too and use)
When sculpting dolls out of chavant you use doll eyes for anatomy to be correct.
