|
|
Hey all!
It's that wonderful time of the year where the Fantasy Forest gets to parade past all those Skiffy and HEM weirdos to take home all the prizes.
Of course I'm talking about the IFY's.
But... to win those prizes we need your nominations.
So get out into the forest and find yourself one nomination each for the following categories :
- Best Storygame : The SG that YOU think is the best.
- Best Plot : The SG that you feel has the best plot.
- Best Character : The best character in an SG - which seems the most believable, real, interesting?
- Best description/detail : That one scene in a SG that was just so amazingly described?
- Best style/most original : For those more unique storygames.
- Best supporting character : Any non-main character nominations here.
- Best decision points : DPs can be really tricky - do you remember a really good one?
- Best Critic : The most helpful critic! Someone every writer hopes will comment on their story.
Nominations -
- FatHairyApe
- Crunchyfrog
- Best Non SGotM Winner : Same as the "Best SG" award, but for Non SGotM winners.
There you have it folks - our categories for the 2009 IFY's.
There are some rules of course.
Now go find those fantasy stories to win them
Happy Nominating! _________________ The path of my life is strewn with cowpats from the Devil's own Satanic Herd!

I'd like to nominate Scissorkitty's Indelible for Best SG.
Brilliantly written, with perfect comedic timing and great ideas. (plus a really impressive wait for chapters! ) _________________ I've been pulled back from oblivion to lurk about the City once more. Though the music of the night always beckons...
Here's some stuff I started writing a long time ago. Orb. Nexus.

For best description - I must say I was very impressed with Gallant's portrayal of the City of IF in his new SG'A Long Time Gone'.
Gallant wrote: | The city was dark. It wasn’t just the darkness of the night, there was an aura. Or rather an emptiness where an aura once lingered.
A man walked down the empty streets, sirens could be heard in the distance and bits of newspaper blustered about on a wet road. His boot crunched on a bit of glass as he approached a statue. A gust came in from behind; he pulled his coat around him tighter. The collar and hat hid his features, but a sorrow that ran deep, set in his bones. He looked up to the statue, copper stained green on its shoulders like a growing mantle.
A crown glittered aloft the statues head, and a golden key hung around its neck. The mans eyes were brought back down to a plaque which he felt hardly befitted the deserved grandeur. It read, ‘In memory of our king.’ A sheet of newspaper landed open on the plaque. The long coated man went to remove it but a name caught his eye. ‘Young, handsome philanthropist leaves fortune and luxury in search of enlightenment.’
He read further, most of it was flattery and uninformative but what he did learn is the ‘philanthropist’ was indeed an unlikely candidate. Chinaren. He searched around the article for any other information and found a small smudged name at the bottom. It seems Nene’s journalist aspirations came to fruit. The damp page crumpled easily in the strangers hand. His hands looked gnarled and leathery, they were grey and had sparse, black freckles on the back.
He held himself as if he wanted to sigh, however the effort of breath was pointless to him. He trod off into the night, shoulders high and head hanging low. The city had definitely went down hill since he was away. The king was dead and the streets emanated a gloom so intense it chained the spirit like an anchor. This place used to be so familiar, now it was nearly unrecognisable. He saw ghosts of old roads smeared over by shabby, cheap infrastructure. |

I'm wondering if i should recommend the main character of A Long Time Gone for Best Character.
But what i'll actually do is nominate Bram Ota from Jack D. Mented's Fraternity of Bastardsfor Best Character, just because he's awesome. _________________ When the dead walk, the living run.

For Most Original, I nominate Rhapsody in Blue, by Alegria. A fantastic concept, which he has built up brilliantly.
For best non-Sgotm I nominate the Arena for Story-less characters, by IdeaMaster. _________________

I believe that was Asylum Whitey.
Although, can that really be called his work? While he did have some dramatic cutscenes, it was as much the work of the competitors as it was his. _________________ When the dead walk, the living run.

Idea Master would get the credit as Director, then?
We've had collaborative SGs nominated for IFYs before - The Hangover was one such.

It's taken a while to choose a DP, but one that sticks out in my mind is a very simple one from Traveller's Journey's Witness It's a shame Trav hasn't been around in a while and I hope that he comes back soon to continue this lovely tale.
The DP in question is on the fourth chapter, where a supporting character is attacked and carried away down a river, which led to suggestions of either rescue, revenge, or carry on the quest regardless. Few replies to the chapter, but gathered a lot of votes.

For Best Plot, I was quite intruigued by Soul Guidance by Idea Master.. of course, that one has been languishing for a year or so, so I don't know if it qualifies.. unless it were to be UPDATED SOON... [hint hint!) _________________ ......back and forth.....

I'll nominate DeadManWalking's The Hunt for Best SGotM.
It's well written with really long, detailed chapters and great new ideas! _________________ Does the walker choose the path, or the path the walker?

I was looking for the Best Critic one in Skiffy, but couldnt' find it. Still, there's an empty Best Critic slot here, so I'd like to put in my nomination for FatHairyApe.

Gah, Bank holiday caught me unawares, and now I'm busy with the new months reports at work.
But nominations are now closed, and the polls will be arriving at my earliest moment of free time.
Thanks all. _________________ The path of my life is strewn with cowpats from the Devil's own Satanic Herd!
