I hereby declare the tie broken. I voted for "who is he?" since it's clear he's an important character and his description makes him sound like a wizard. I consider him the greatest threat that we know of, so we should know as much about him as possible. Perhaps we can learn more about the strange events that have been unfolding. For that matter, these future people will have a lot of explaining to do before I am convinced I should help them. They're meddling with time, which may be a little difficult to accept, but it's credible enough to think it's very unwise to meddle with.
Speaking of time travel as an idea to an 18th century person, I don't think it would actually be that difficult for him to comprehend. There are many stories throughout history of time travel in some form, not to mention how natural it is to wish to go back to fix a mistake or go forward to skip a long wait. The technology would be a lot to take in though. For that matter, if there is going to be a war of technology verses magic, Alf better learn the difference between them.
Of course, if you're taking questions, I would just say "Who is the guy in the robe?" "Why was I given the door handle? If it was an accident, why was Liz trying to do in my time?" and "What precisely is a time loop? How do we avoid them?" "Can we prevent Liz from getting executed?"

Consider it further broken. I'd say he'd stick with the immediate concerns and curiosities in the present moment.
As for this tale as a whole... not only is it shaping up nicely, but its an excellent expression of the skill you've been developing as an author, CF! I'm really enjoying the vivid imagery you so craftily weave throughout.
