Tips for New Players:

New players can find answers to many of their general storygaming questions by reading the FAQs.

Spellsinger chronicles the story of Jakeen, a young bard seeking to discover the magic of his music. This storygame interlocks with the tales of Gorin and Yahoo. Read all about the mages tournament and their Battle to the End.

Spellsinger Chapter Summaries:

Background: Jakeen enjoyed playing, and possessed a real talent for music. By accident he discovered his ability to make magic with his music, and he desired to learn more about his gift. In his eighteenth year of life, he traveled to the Lyceum seeking a mentor.

Chp1 Arrival: He arrived penniless and tired, into a city in full festival mode. The great tournament of the Lyceum was taking place. Jakeen found a comfortable carriage behind a stable to spend the night in.

Chp2 Mind over Music: After a brutal encounter with the keeper of the carriages, Jakeen ended up at the Wormy Dog Tavern, where two opportunities presented to him. The barkeep Mace offered much needed employment, while the wizard Yahoo offered much wanted tutoring.

Chp3 First Lesson: Deciding to accept both offers, Jakeen adjusts his schedule to accomodate morning lessons and evening work. His first lesson involves mastering control of his music, and he is exhausted at the end of session. As he rests before work, a group of local ruffians mugs him.

Chp4 Subtle Suggestion: Jakeen confronts the muggers and retrieves his money, aided by a helpful stranger who identifies himself as Tokes. Following the advice of Tokes, Jakeen registers for the tournament. He struggles with whether to discuss his registering with his mentor Yahoo, who has also entered the contest.

Chp5 Conflicts and Contests: Registering for the tournament, Jakeen and his mentor Yahoo decide to part ways in favor of competition. The Battle to the End has begun, and Jakeen faces his first opponent, a forest elf named Sheva who employs one deadly attack.

Chp6 Obligations: Through a little skill and a lot of luck, Jakeen manages a victory. Now he is stuck in the healing clinic, worried about how his boss Mace will react to his missing the night's work.

Chp7 Misfortune or Fortune: With the help of a kindly nurse, Jakeen sends a message to Mace concerning the missed work. He has an unexpected visit from Gorin, who gifts him with a parchment containing instructions for a complex healing spell. He wonders whether he can trust this spell.

Chp8 To Play or Not to Play and Mace: Jakeen sucessfully plays the healing spell, and returns to the Wormy Dog where Mace reverts to the original, less favorable employment offer. In the arena, he faces a shadow mage that incarnates his greatest fears.
