WARNING! If you haven't read the background, then I strongly suggest that you do so, otherwise you will not understand the following.

You are Thadius LaFontiana, the newly crowned king of vampires. Only two weeks ago, you recieved the horrid news of your father's death. Yeasterday, you had to get a new bodyguard because the old one was dead under mysterious conditions. Someone or something is after you, and you strongly suspect the wizards. This morning, your food tester died. Following the advice from your, well, adviser, you decided that the palace was no longer safe for you. You vacated the palace early this afternoon, losing six or seven wizards in the crowd of the city of La-Ethil, your home. It panged you greatly to leave, but it would have hurt more if you stayed. As you left, your two best friends, Mack Delough, swordsman extrodinare, and Mary Esinger, master chemist, followed you...

"What do you think you're doing?" Mary asked at the gates.
"Getting out of here! I've had three assination attepts in two weeks! There," you said, pointing at the tall, dark palace, "Is NOT safe for me! It's a landmark that anyone and everyone sees! I'm going to settle this once and for all."
"With whom?" Mack asked.
"The one who wants me dead!"
"Well, take us with you! We'll help you!" Mary pleaded.
But Mack looked thoughtful, a rare thing. "Where will you go?"
He hit a nerve. Your family tree is so varied. Your father was a wizard before he was converted to a vampire. With his retained powers, he quickly worked his way to the top. Your mother was a human, then turned druid. You clutch the amulet that she gave you when you were five. Her face floats in your memory. "When you need me, enter the forest and ask for Elshinger. One will take you to me" You remember that, even though you are now nineteen.
Mack, seeing this puase, continues. "Going out on your own without a plan is not a very good way to go through life. Where would you go?"
Mary says, "You could find your mom, or go straight to the wizards. Better yet, go to a human town and ask about the legendary artifacts."
"What, the ones by the First Ones to grace this world? I'm sure that the wizards have them all by now."
"Still, it's a chance."

What do you do?

Click on the poll above to vote for what happens in the next chapter. Anyone is welcome to vote, although you must be registered and logged in to do so. You can only vote on each poll once. You can discuss the voting choices below, or try to sway people to vote one way or the other.

To the nearby human town, Ratheil, to ask about the artifacts because he will then be able to find out whatt the artifacts are for and how to use them in case they can be used for example one of the artifacts could be for the day so he can walk in the day if he equips it and the other could be for Smile so he walks to the town of ratheil to ask about the artifacts while in ratheil he stubles upon an museum he walks into the museum where he finds a book on the artifacts he is carrying but there is a problem it is all written i latin he goes to the service desk and askes if any one can speak latin

we have no reason to go find the artifacts yet, so that might be a stupid idea. i think we should go to the wizards and find out if they can use magic to find out who is trying to kill us, or if they know anyone that might have had a grudge against our father.

Good ideas! Now, to let everyone know, I'm only using the poll ONCE! After that, it depends on your input. Yeah, it is a little stupid to go after the artifacts right off, but I'm pretty sure that I'll manage to get them in there. Okay, any more?

If your father was a wizard before he was a vampire, then he must have known some wizards. Maybe one of them held a grudge, and that's the reason why he was killed. But he might also have had some friends among the wizards, someone who might be able to tell you who's after you and why.

I would go to the wizards, but not openly. Sneak around and try to contact your father's friends in secret. If you can find out who your enemies are, you'll be in a better position.

Hi and Well Met!

I agree with Smoke Dragon (on more than the story direction apparently - Nameste')

Think this will be a great story!

So are we "Off to See the Wizards?" (Sorry, I couldn't resist!) In all seriousness I liked the direction he took and agree - Wizards and Stealth are a great combination.

I agree with everyone else above. There is no need yet to ask about or even find the artifacts. And I also think your mother can help you later in your journey as you learn about yourself and your family's history. So I guess that only leaves going to the wizards. Although that may seem like an easy way out, I would write as if it were a confrontion that doesn't come out well, and that , my friend will instigate your page turning story. Have fun with it!

Well, don't worry, it won't be an easy way out of this story, trust me. I have the next part plotted out, since everyone seems to want to see the wizards. Keep the ideas coming!

Okay, now to clear up a little thing I've noticed...
When I said to read the background, I MEANT IT!
I saw that the first chapter got 301 views, but the background only 94!
Many people here think that the vampires can't exist during the day.
These are not the vampires out of legend!
They choose not to have a day routine.
They are geared for the night, so when they live during the day, they get a massive sensory overload. Think migrane headache.

Okay, as I look at the results, I see that...
It's too close! Please get your votes in by Sunday.
I'm working on the next chapter, it'll be up by then.
I HOPE so...
Get your ideas in, because I won't go just by poll alone.
As of right now, Thadius will go, by stealth, to find his friends and foes with the wizards.
Keep the flow steady!

I thought he should go looking for his mother as going straight to the people trying to kill you isn't exactly the best idea.

I would chose to see my Mother becouse she is offering help in a time of need and this is such a time. I wouldnt walk straight into danger becouse im trying to run away from danger. Although I want to confront the issue I would feel the need for more preparation before approaching wizards
So I would seek her for advice.

He doesn't know exactly who is trying to kill him, he just strongly suspects the wizards, and even if it was, it might just be a particular individual, not all the wizards in the land.

Yes however he was followed by several until he lost them in the crowd. That shows that more than one is after him.

That part wasn't explained fully, were they chasing him and he managed to lose them in the crowd as he left, or did he just think they were after him?

Thank you for pointing that part out though, if they were indeed after him at the time, it would be wise for him to be a little discreet in his dealings with the wizards. However, if it is a small group of wizards after him, separate from the rest, maybe talking to the other wizards might help him. Was he certain they were real wizards, and not just dressed as wizards? It could be someone trying to frame the wizards.

Alright, thanks for that, I'll explain it. They were TRYING to stalk him, but he lost them each in turn.

Yeah, I guess so, unless they just looked like wizards! Can vampires sense things, like magic and that? If he pursued them, did he get a good look of any of their faces?

Going to the forest to find his mother sounds like the safest place to start. Maybe she will know which wizards were friendly, if any were, or can help him in some other way. He needs more information before he approaches other races, either wizards or humans, and surely he can at least trust his mother!
Btw, are his friends Mack and Mary vampires too?

The vampires can sense other vamps, but druids can see nature magic and sense other druids, wizards can see all magic and sense other wizards, and the humans are at a loss. Thadius, thanks to his mixed blood, can do all of the above. He just isn't aware that he's doing it. It comes sort of as a gut instinct. I'll show you what else he can do soon.
Mother goose, I would hope so! Both of them were human before they were converted.

Only a little bit. The humans have a sense of right and wrong!
Well, to be a druid, the human has to study a bit about the druids, find a communinty of them, and learn from them the ways of nature.
To convert to wizard, the wizards have their own methods.
But to be a vamp requires no studying at all. The vamps have to find a willing host, one that wants to change. The process of changing takes one week. Any faster, and the body will destroy itself due to it's innate rejection of the change. During this time period, the body adjusts itself to being a vamp, and at the end, embraces it, casting aside all the human things.

as thadius has mixed blood, does that mean he might have someone inherited powers from his parents? that would be kind of cool if he had some magic. also, when someone is vamped, what actually happens? is there anything like an exchange of blood, where the vamp drinks the human's and the the human drinks the vamp's, or is it something else? also, can vamps have sexual intercourse and get pregnant, or is the only way to get more vamps is to convert them?

Yes, but like I said earlier, he isn't aware of it...
yet.
When the vamp drinks the human's blood, the thing that makes the vamp a vamp, well, a little bit of it breaks off and enters the human, where it festers. I'm NOT going into vampire sexuallity!
Now, for chapter 2!
