[Idea master]

What has happened before:
You, Thadius LaFontania, were rescued off of your little island by the Rathiel. They are a race of shapeshifters and seers. They have aggreed to house you for the time being. However, when the elder gave you their secret, unbeknowset to you, this created some rebellious people within the island...
"I still can't believe he gave you the stone!"
This is Matthew, the capitan of the ship that rescued you. He is walking you to the house where your friends are staying. He seems to be muttering several curse words under his breath.
"Nor I, Matthew. Tell me, do you know the secrets of this stone?"
"No, only the elder does. But never mind, here you are."
You've arrived. When you enter the house, you tell you friends everything about what happened in the elder's hut. They too are a bit shocked.
"Thadius," Mary begins, "do you know what that stone is supposed to do? It allows any non-Rathiel to transform! And, if one has that stone on his person at the time of his death, then he lives on for as long as the stone is whole!"
This shocks you. You thought it was a mere ruby with a few magical powers...Now it seems as though almost anyone would kill for it. You ask her, "Do you know how to access these powers?"
"No, almost anyone who tried falied."
"Meaning they died when they needed it most."
"And they live on in the stone."
Now you wonder about using the stone. But this fate won't happen to you, not if you practice with it first. You tell her, "I'll sleep on it, okay?"
And you do. The central focus of all your dreams is that stone, and someone taking it from you. Funny, because when you wake up, it's gone.

You immediatly ask the elder where it is the next morning. He says, "It was taken in the night by a band of rebles to your cause. They have hidden it in the caves. Beware: They hide in any form they need."
"Where are these caves?"
"To the north of here."
You set out, with Mack and Mary at your side. You reach the huge, old, brown cliffs in the late afternoon, and spot but one entrance in the wall. When you enter, you see a faint red glow at the far end, it seems that it's slightly covered up. After traversing the stalgtites and stalagmites, you reach the far end of the cave, about half a mile in. You look down at what's covering the ruby, and your blood turns ice-cold.
The dead bodies of Mack and Mary.
You immediatly turn around, and the two Rathiel you followed you in grin and shift into their natural forms. Matthew and his first mate.
"You see, Thadius," Matthew says, "for some reason we couldn't kill you in your sleep. No no, that would be too easy. We wanted vengence. But don't worry, we used the ruby to destroy your friends. It was such fun to see them gasp as they saw you destroy them. They live on in that wonderful little gem there, but you won't be granted such an honor. No, then you'd be able to tell them the truth. You can take the gem, but you won't leave alive. Or, you can leave it, and leave this island peacefully."
Your mind whirls...if you take the gem, then they plan to kill you, they probably have associates hiding in the form of flies...But if you leave it, then Matthew can spread his lies about you...What do you do?

Im new...but i just read your whole story up to date...and its awesome...but you kind of gave it away that mack and mary were not themselves...cuz,they knew too much about the ruby....but other than that i cant find any faults...good story Idea master,keep it up.

This is what I call a mini-chapter. It seems like it's too short, but that's only 'cause I want you guys to decide what really should happen next. I gonna assue that you all want him to risk life and limb next time unless you say otherwise. And although Mack and Mary died, remember, this is a realm of magic, so if Thadius brings what's left of them to a really good priest, then they can be brought back. They won't be the same, but they'll be back. And is it all our fault if anyone doesn't understand this site?

I would try to hide the gem and sneak out of this island...

well did mack and mary die for real or did some of those guys hide mack and mary and then just transform into them?like the two following him?i dont know,but hey its a good idea...well i would go back to the elder and figure out how to use it and then do it....
