Virtual
Chapter 10: The Engine Room
“Iron-Man your tail-boom is smoking over,” Technical Sergeant Barrell reported as he hovered next to his superior’s bird.
“Copy that Sly I’m okay though over,” He responded as he finally made his decision and pushed forward on his flightstick that lowered the screen of his chopper so far that Jack was now looking at the ground.
“Bravo Element, drop your cargo over.” Jack answered as he heard sudden yells of adrenalin coming from the marines on board his Little Bird as their feet dangled from the speeding AH-6. His squadron members acknowledged his command and, began their runs while Jack soared etowards the earth and towards the end of the street. As his bird descended towards the ground Jack flared the AH-6 immediately and the black helicopter decreased in speed fast that the landing was soft. As soon as the marines feet touched the grounds their machine guns were blazing, covering their comrades but before the marines could get their feet on the floor the Chinese soldiers were already firing at his little bird. Jack pulled out his MP7 sub-machine-gun, leaning from left to right firing at the enemy soldiers around him and once the marines were on the ground Jack turned up the throttle. As Jack ascended into the air he heard a loud wooshing noise coming from behind and the AH-6 flew forward just in time to avoid a rocket that had come from an HJ-12. A modified version of the Chinese HJ-8. Jack rotated his little bird and let all hell loose with his chain guns that slammed into the side of the aircraft which strafed from being hit and the chain gun fire went deep into the helicopter. Jack yanked his flightstick, the line of chain gun fire disconnected the Chinese helicopter and the chopper plummetted towards the ground.
“Good kill Iron-Man, good kill!” complimented Jack’s 2nd Lieutenant.
That’s odd. Thought Maintenance Officer Elliot Anderson as he stared at the information of Engine Room. The complicated figures listed on his computer terminal informed him that there was an unknown object attached to the 2nd Engine but it wasn’t anything mechanical and that mean’t that it wasn’t a bomb of any sort. Otherwise it would have been detected by the ships on board scanning system and everyone would be either off of the ship or locked in different sectors by the cruisers’ bomb secure doors.
“Hey Tim! I’m gonna go down to the engine room. I’ll be back in fifteen minutes, if not call security.” He told his co-worker, the Ensign grabbed his torch from his drawer and made his way down to the engine room.
His footsteps echoed throughout the corridor that lead to the engine room, it was hardly lit and it wasn’t suppose to be like that which probably mean’t that there were more technical issues down in the engine room. Elliot turned on his torch, shining it down the hall way and slowly wandering down it while examining the surroundings. Finally he was at the end of the corridor where a security panel awaited him, he entered the code but as he punched in the code he felt a cold chill run down the back of his neck. Something wasn’t right about this but he needed to know what was wrong with the engine because it was for the others sake and it was his job as part of a maintence crew. He walked into the next room to find that a liquid was dripping from the ceiling, a brown-red liquid that seemed to make the ensign more mad. He shown the torch on the ceiling of the engine room to see some kind of flesh like thing pulsing on the ceiling and it was making its way around the room like it was taking it over. What the hell? Elliot thought as he made his way over to the 2nd engine to find the same flesh entity taking over the engine. He stared at this entity, the room got chillier and within a few seconds Elliot felt like he had frostbite. As if his limbs might break off if he moved them but still moved his gloved hands and touched the entity which pulsed rapidly in reaction to stop its intruder. Just then Elliot turned around to see five men dressed in maintenance uniforms lurching towards him and dozens of brain-feeders crawling at him. It was his end.
The admiral was escorted out of the cruiser in handcuffs with the two MPs following him and the officer. People stopped in their tracks to look at this unusual sight gasping and whispering to one another trying to find out what exactly was going on but the Admiral knew because he had been told. There was one charge against him and one health reason why he would be in this situation. Those were:
1. For the significant loss of crew members during the battle at Traders Haven.
2. He was a schizophrenic. Colonel Ballows never existed and he was just a creation of the admiral’s imagniation.
Everyone who worked on the bridge knew but never complained because the admiral was the greatest leader of the entire Navy and there was no doubting it. The admiral would always address Colonel Ballows who was the only CO on the ship who didn’t appear on the crew roster or wouldn't appear to anyone else on the cruiser except for the admiral. Once he gave his orders a Captain Fergerson would step up and take over for the admiral when he wasn’t in charge. Nevertheless the admiral was highly respected than god himself. Now here he was being escorted out of the cruiser just a few days before they were mean’t to leave the shipyard and link up with the rest of fleet but now they’ve hit a snag. They would probably never see the admiral again or even say goodbye if he’s guilty and they would receive some Colonel who has never been out in a real battlefield or in the depths of space.
It had now been twenty minutes and Tim Jefferson was worried for his co-worker so he walked into the lounge room where the maintence security team were. They were just hanging around playing card games in their uniforms.
“Elliot has been gone for twenty minutes and he hasn’t called in or anything. I need you guys to go down there and look for him. Now!” Tim ordered the security team who quickly got off the chairs and armed themselves with pistols.
“Where did he get off to?” the security team leader enquired as they got their flak jackets
“He headed over to the engine room after he saw something on the monitor.” Tim answered and the Team was out the door with their gear on.
Jim Parkes was the leader of the six man team, he had been on board the Freedom since the day it started and he loved his job on board because there was always something to do. Wether it be hanging around with his colleagues, investigating different ships in the hangar bays or even wandering down dark hallways in single file with weapons in their hands.
“What the fuck?” Brian Demers whispered to himself as he saw a shadow run past a doorway right next to him
“Tim this Staff Sergeant Parkes, we’re at the entrance to the engine room over,” Parkes reported over his hand held radio before punching in the security code and once the panel accepted it the door slid open. He took one step inside the room before he realised what was in front of him
“Fall back!” He shouted to his team. He could see what must have been dozen skin-coloured brain-feeders and humans feeding on the body of who could only be Maintenance Officer Elliot Anderson. Jim raised his side arm and fied at the crawling brain feeders that were now rushing at him, the lasers fired out of his pistol were blowing them a part and holding them off but the Sergeant didn’t have unlimited ammo.
“Quentin behind you!” Omar Meddens screamed as someone jumped out of a doorway and grabbed Quentin Sinper. The security guard screamed as the Hybrid-Human bit his ear off, experiencing such excruciating pain Quentin fired four rounds that went through the Boragnian’s chest and had caused him to let go of him. Jim Parkes pulled him back in to the corridor, behind him and continued firing at the crawling aliens on the floor
“Shawn!” Frank Pierce yelled as Shawn Hemmer was pulled into a room by dozens of these things. They were everywhere. Brain Feeders were climbing the walls going faster than they were and closing in on them fast while the Hybrid Humans were coming out of the doorways or ambushing them. All the five man team could do was run and shoot frantically at their assailants. Brian Demers was at first bringing up the rear but was in front and now he was almost at the door, he looked up at the ventilation shaft before he got to door. Something about two times the size of him reached out at him
“TIM OPEN THE FUCKING DOOR!” Jim yelled over his radio as the team began to bunch up
“Oh my god!” Brian screamed as he fired rapidly at this thing that was coming at him but he was pulled back up into the darkness of the vent screaming in pain. The door finally opened and the four man team dived in before Tim could close the door again. They were panting, their faces were pale and cold due to what had just happened. They could hear their friends screaming on the other side of the door
“Tim. Block the sector’s Ventilation system. Now!” Jim panted as he stared at the grating of a ventilation system where he could hear the screaming of Corporal Brian Demer. Tim rushed over to his terminal and within a few seconds the gratings in the sector of the ship were covered by a steel layer.
“What was that?” Tim enquired as he walked over to the team.
“Boragnians. They must have gotten onto the ship some how… Fuck the-the-they tore us to shit man! They were ambushing us they were running at us from down the hall. They got Shawn and Brian! We have to warn the bridge!” Jim stuttered as his mind kept racing over the event.
“Good Idea Jim but the radios are out and your hand helds are only have one channel… We’re fucked.”

I don't think they should give-up, run pell-mell through a bunch of aliens, or cause an explosion of any sort on the ship. 
I do however think they should stay alive and attempt to contact the bridge in some fashion. Look around and determine what means is available (other than blowing something up).
