++ INCOMING DATA-SCRIPT FROM INQUISITOR LORD FALREK

Hail Brother, it is good to find you in such health, especially after your injuries sustained recently in the Thracian Sector. The Holy Order of Terra has assigned you replacements due to the casualties you suffered on Tantris – it is a mark of their high esteem for your work that you have been re-cleared with such swiftness. The Ordo Sicarius is nominally pleased with your current and previous assignments, and you have a new placement, one in the sector of Hytti. Make your way there; your new assistants are already expecting you.

Details on your next assignment will follow shortly. Do not let it be a repeat of last time.

And lo', the infamous Inquisitor story appears....

And I wonder what the unwashed (in a bad way; I am unwashed, but only so I can feel the glorious soil against my skin) will make of this... Razz

++ INCOMING DATA-SCRIPT FROM INQUISITOR LORD FALREK

Hail Brother. I am pleased to hear you arrived safely in Hytti. You should rendezvous with your assistants on 09.14T. Meet on Liquate, the third planet in the system – they will find you. I need not remind you that as always with our Ordo, secrecy is of the utmost importance. There are several targets necessary before you can move in on the overall aim of the mission. The governor of Telxic, the eighth planet in the system, has rebelled against the Imperium – refusing to pay taxes and has declared the planet independent of the Holy Emperor’s Rule, foolishly believing himself to be capable to take on the responsibilities of government personally – having his advisors imprisoned and all protestors put to death. Although this system is within close reach of the Fortress Monastery of the Ravenclaws Space Marines Chapter, the planets of the sector has an efficient surface-to-air defence system, and losses have been judged to be to high to risk a full out invasion. Not content with rebelling against the Emperor’s rule, the governor – Baron Drano of the Comshulk family – has invaded the other four planets in the sector capable of sustaining life, thus explaining your meeting point on the aqua planet located third from the sun. He has placed members of his family in control of each of these planets. Further detail on the targets will follow.

Hmm. Rebellion in the progress. Are we to stop it anytime soon. Seems like we're just watching it happen. But I understand the precautions the Empire wants to take.

For some reason, I think that there won't be any proper chapters - it will all be reported action, but we can decide what action the character's take... or something like that. And no, I haven't seen the current WIP, so it's just a guess.

No, there's going to be four data-scripts in total, after which normal chapters will take over.

I've already done reported action see Blood Bowl for details.

Hail Brother. I am aware that as yet you have not made contact with your assigned associates. However, I am sending the information on your companions onwards now, so you do not arrive unprepared. There will as usual be four of them, one from each of the temples. Members of the Vanus and Venenum temples were felt to be unnecessary, and as such have not been assigned to you. Information on the targets will arrive in three days.

TEMPLE: Vindicare Temple, 2nd Class….. CLICK TO SEE MORE >

The Vindicare Temple practises callous, unfeeling elimination of targets. To destroy a target with contemptuous ease was Vindicare’s practice, and his disciples continue his traditions. They bring death to the enemies of the Imperium from afar with a sniper’s bullet – to them marksmanship is an art form. In order to complement this, Vindicare Assassins emphasise stealth and evasion tactics in addition to weapons training. One of the temples maxims is that the only clean kill is one made from an excellent firing position with a single bullet. Vindicare Assassins have on occasion been known to occupy position for weeks before taking the shot.

Vindicare Assassins are most commonly used to slay individual important targets, such as those suspected of possessing psychic abilities, or those individuals who are ambitious beyond those permitted. Particularly charismatic leaders of men are often eliminated by these highly trained assassins, usually in front of their men or while delivering an inspiring speech. This serves to demoralise the troops of the Emperor’s enemies, and uncountable rebellions have been stopped in their tracks by the death of a false prophet at his podium, or an enemy command collapsed with a bullet through his brain as he surveyed the battlefield through a secure bunker.

In addition to their lengthy training, Vindicare Assassins are equipped with a variety of weaponry and equipment. Each assassin is issued with the following inventory, which they may choose to supplement as they see fit.

TEMPLE: Callidus Temple, 3rd Class….. CLICK TO SEE MORE >
UPLOADING…

The Callidus Temple is the most subtle of the ancient Officio Assassinorums, specialising in covert deception and elimination of the Imperium’s enemies. This is achieved through the use of a drug known as Polymorphine, allowing the assassin to break down the molecular structure of her body, and alter it to take the appearance of any other human. In addition, an assassin who has undergone surgery can take the form of other, more specific, alien life forms, such as the feral Orks, or the sophisticated Eldar. Experiments have found that the female gene is more suitable to use of the drug, and as such the majority of Callidus trainees are female.

When assigned to a target, Callidus Assassins are dropped behind enemy lines, from whence they utilise cunning and stealth to infiltrate the opposing army. This is often done by eliminating certain key individuals, and assuming their identity. With this strategy it is possible for the assassin to get close to the target, and influence their decisions, before eventually removing them from the equation. This can takes days, weeks or even years to accomplish. When the time for elimination finally occurs, the assassin has several advantages on their side. The shock for the target, who suddenly discovers their trusted ally to be an efficient and deadly killer. In addition, the Callidus Temple equips its assassins with a variety of highly advanced weaponry, and the assassin is trained to deal with any multiple of opponents who may or not be protecting the killer.

As mentioned afore, the Callidus Temple offers its assassins numerous weapons and equipment to choose from. These include, but are not limited to:
    C’tan Phase Sword
    Neural Shredder
    Polymorphine Injectors
    Poisoned Blades
    Syn-Skin
    Combat Armour
    5 Blind Grenades
    Medi-kit
    Rappelling Line and Rope

Note well, if Polymorphine is used on a target who hasn’t conditioned their body and mind for use of the drug, the effects can be devastating, as their body alters of its own accord.

TEMPLE: Eversor Temple, 1st Class….. CLICK TO SEE MORE >
UPLOADING…

The Eversor Temple is the most gruesome of the Officio Assassinorum Temples. Specialising in shock and terror tactics, an activated Eversor Assassin is a chilling site to behold. To be utilised only in the most pressing of situations, the Eversor is a plain example of the Emperor’s Retribution on those who go against His Name, and fear his wrath. The methods used are neither subtle nor concealed, and an Eversor Assassin leaves only destruction in his wake. These assassins are normally used against rebel governors who plan to move against the Imperium with large bodies of troops, which could prove costly in resources and man-power to overcome. Eversor Assassins are expected to deal with large numbers of enemies in combat at one time, and expected to utilise this aspect of their training.

Eversor Assassins are trained to be completely ruthless and unfeeling – completely dedicated to the Imperium. Every single assassin from the Temple has been genetically altered and engineered to be a super-human killing machine, bodies driven beyond normal levels by genetic modifications and bionical improvements, they use a range of combat drugs to further enhance their metabolisms, and alter the assassins mind to that of a psychopath. However, a large number of these drugs are highly addictive. Without them the assassin’s body would die, but with them he is turned into a nearly unstoppable killing machine. The end result is that the assassin becomes addicted to killing itself, and as such has to be contained in a cryogenic state when not deployed in the field. The assassin may spend several years, possibly centuries in this state, and awake without feeling any time passed at all.

UPLOADING…

Eversor Assassins are equipped with a large number of weapons with which to complete their assignments, as well as being trained to use nearly any weapon they may come across. This includes, but is no means limited to…

    Neuro-Gauntlet
    Executioner Pistol
    Sentinel Array
    Skull Mais
    Syn-Skin
    Combat Armour
    5 Blind Grenades
    5 Melta Bombs
    Power Sword
Advanced Secondary Bionic Heart and Lungs
Stimm-Gland Implants with ‘Slaught, Psychon and Spur
    Injector Implants with Barrage
    Terminus Gland

Please note, the drugs contained within the assassin’s body are all in constant tension. They resist reacting with each other due to a range of bio-implants and counter-drugs, but if the assassin falls then the safeguards collapse, resulting in a violent explosion, causing the assassins body to spontaneously combust.

TEMPLE: Culexus Temple, 2nd Class….. CLICK TO SEE MORE >
UPLOADING…

The Culexus Temple is unique in the fact that, unlike all the other Temples, it recruits not based on ability, but on a natural phenomenon. All Culexus Assassins are Pariahs; they have no presence in the Warp. They are, to all intents and purposes, soulless. Those who are cursed with this are born so at birth. There is no known way to become or reverse a Pariah, and it is unknown why selective individuals are born this way. It is not a hereditary trait, and there is no known correlation between being exposed to a Pariah shortly after conception, so it appears the curse is not contagious in any way. Experiments have shown that there are no abnormalities located anywhere in the genes, and no sensible theory has yet been contracted.

Although a curse, there can be useful side effects. Normal people feel a natural mistrust towards Pariahs, which makes it difficult for them to socialise. Most do not even know they are affected. However, a Pariah who is discovered by the Inquisition is often used to combat the threat of enemy psykers, or, if worst comes to worse, daemonic forces. Having no presence in the Warp, Pariahs cannot be affected by psychic powers in anyway thus rendering them immune to mental harm from these dread foes.

Those Pariahs who find their way into the Culexus Temple spend hours on end concentrating to further refine their unique abilities. They utilise a device known as an Animus Speculum, which has the ability to discharge negative blasts of energy, which build up when around psykers. With this device, the negative presence of the normal Pariah is amplified, and most people can barely stand to remain in a room with such a creature.

This seems to be shaping up into a rather complex storygame. Smile When the actual chapters with decision points begin, will we assume the role of Inq. Kharn or of one of the companions from the temples? Just wondering how that will work.

I'm interested in how this will all weave together. It would seem that each will take out their assigned targets individually...although working as a team to aquire the targets.

*waits for target info and the first chapter*

If we ever get to normal chapters... Wink

Well it was more informative at least, though you could have just linked us to something to explain what Imperial Assassins are.

If this gets as complex as it appears to promise then I'm going to appreciate the information being posted here like it is.

I forgot to add, if anyone wants any further information on what any of the equiment is for just ask. This section is from the view of an Inquisitor afterall, and he would already know the full details.

*laughs* Whenever I hear the word Inquisition, it reminds of the Spanish Inquisition in Monty Python. Those crazy people dressed in red gowns, and caps...Three of my friends did them for Halloween this year...ran around school pushing a chair, and waving a thick book (I think it was one of the volumes of the Oxford English Dictionary. Very Happy )

Totatlly off-topic I know, but had to make mention of it.
Cool

Yeah, I knew that. Wink

We have yet to truly see the character's personality. So far, there has only been a pretty much a story of the main character receiving information through letters. Not even a reaction from the character is mentioned. I guess we just have to wait and see.

No, Kharn would be more like the sort of Spanish Inquisitor - or even Imperial Inquisitor - who goes

"You look like a heretic - burn. You haven't paid your taxes - burn. I don't like your attitude - burn."

Good to hear that about the Kharn, Lordy. Not much of a thinker is he. A very decisive person, good and bad for some people. And unfortunately, Kharn seems to like to be the cause of the bad aspect.

PRIMARY TARGET

NAME: Baron Drano Cumshulk
RANK: Governor of Telxic, Eighth Planet of the Hytti Sector.
CURRENT LOCATION: Believed to inhabit the city of Trands, which is on Hetph, the main continent of Telxic. His exact location is unknown, though it is likely to be easy to locate when on ground.
SEX: Male
AGE: 39 Terran.
DESCRIPTION:
    HEIGHT: 203cm.
    WEIGHT: 93.7kg.
    EYES: Blue 18.
    HAIR: Blond 08. 03.7cm.
    SKIN: White 73.

BIOGRAPHY: Like all the Cumshulk family, Baron Drano wears richly decorated clothes, along with his symbols of rank. A giant of a man, nearly a full head over most of his contemporise, Baron Drano used to be highly respected by the Imperium, his taxes were always paid on time and in full, often paying more than the expected 40%. This changed ten years ago, when without warning the tax payments dried up and stopped. Assuming a poor harvest, or a trouble in transit, the Council Members of the Hytti Sector allowed it to slip past without remark. After consecutive similar lapses, an investigator was sent to Telxic to discover the cause of the break in payment. Just one year later, the Hawk Ships of Telxic attacked Knine, over-running the planet within days. When the Council attempted to intervene, they discovered an over-whelming Armada arranged against them, ranging from the nimble Hawk Ships to the powerful Vultures Craft. Located in Du-Ge, the first planet, the Council were able to continue to broadcast messages to the Imperium for almost a year, before they too were conquered.

SECONDARY TARGET A

NAME: Count Iblou Cumshulk
RANK: Governor of Du-Ge, First Planet of the Hytti Sector.
CURRENT LOCATION: Iblou City (renamed from Getifex shortly after the invasion). The City is in Palas, where the Council used to be held.
SEX: Male
AGE: 35 Terran.
DESCRIPTION:
    HEIGHT: 197cm.
    WEIGHT: 89.3kg.
    EYES: Blue 37.
    HAIR: Blond 48. 00.5cm.
    SKIN: White 57.

BIOGRAPHY: Count Iblou is the younger brother of Baron Drano, and has always lived in awe of his elder brother. While on Telxic, he was given command of the planets PDF (Planetary Defence Force) and has no qualms about sacrificing honest citizens of the Imperium to fuel his labour force. Viewing humans as merely a renewable resource, he was targeted for assassination by the Death Cult Lystartus Ret (Emperor’s Arm in the Terran Tongue) shortly before the invasion of Knine. Obviously it was a failure.

KNOWN FORCES: Count Iblou has always relied on vast numbers of infantry rather than highly advanced technology such as mechanised transports. It is expected that he will have large numbers of escorts surrounding him, each perfectly willing to give their life rather than allow him to come to harm.

SECONDARY TARGET B

NAME: Countess Claudia Cumshulk.
RANK: Governor of F’ra, Third Planet of the Hytti Sector.
CURRENT LOCATION: Frast Palace, located in the Sau Desert.
SEX: Female
AGE: 47 Terran.
DESCRIPTION:
    HEIGHT: 147cm.
    WEIGHT: 71.9kg.
    EYES: Blue 01.
    HAIR: Blond 01. 74.6cm.
    SKIN: White 10.

BIOGRAPHY: The Countess is the Baron’s only sister, and is the Supreme Commander of Military Forces on Telxic. Reports say she has grown increasing paranoid over the last few years, and now only allows her most trusted advisors to approach within a hundred metres of her. She remains in her palace, secure in the knowledge that none who are unknown to her guards can approach.

KNOWN FORCES: Isolated in her throne-room, Claudia has nonetheless a large retainer of loyal forces at her disposal. She only allows her must trusted servants to accompany her, and only leaves the palace on the rare occasions she is summoned to Telxic to consult with her younger brother Baron Drano.

SECONDARY TARGET C

NAME: Vice-Count Zarcoff Cumshulk.
RANK: Governor of Tratoro, Sixth Planet of the Hytti Sector.
CURRENT LOCATION: Believed to be in orbit around the planet, on what was known as the Regalus Imperi, but is know called the Sept Nox. This is an experimental Phoenix Class Battle-Cruiser, specially modified by the Vice-Count.
SEX: Male
AGE: 21 Terran.
DESCRIPTION:
    HEIGHT: 188cm.
    WEIGHT: 91.9kg.
    EYES: Blue 54.
    HAIR: Blond 28. 04.5cm.
    SKIN: White 87.

BIOGRAPHY: The son of an illicit pairing between Baron Drano and his sister Claudia, Zarcoff spent most of his life locked away in one of the many spires of Trands. When his brother became Baron he was released, and joined the military forces of Telxic. He swiftly showed an adeptness with piloting of all forms, and rose to Commander of the Navy (helped no doubt by his mother). He was given command of the gaseous planet of Tratoro, which has only 10% of stable landmass.

KNOWN FORCES: As Commander of the Navy, he can field an impressive array of firepower to direct at any target. However, due to his location aboard the Sept Nox this advantage may well come to naught. The Sept Nox itself contains over a million crewmembers, though the majority of which are nothing more than press ganged individuals, with no real loyalty to the Vice-Count.

SECONDARY TARGET D

NAME: Sir Ragnar Desto von Cumshulk.
RANK: Governor of Knines, Ninth Planet of the Hytti Sector.
CURRENT LOCATION: The City of Styx, located underwater in the ocean of Platurs. The strong pressure caused by the oceanic build up reportedly enhances pyskic abilities, though this is as yet unconfirmed.
SEX: Male
AGE: 40 Terran.
DESCRIPTION:
    HEIGHT: 198cm.
    WEIGHT: 85.9kg.
    EYES: Green 24.
    HAIR: Black 68. 44.1cm.
    SKIN: White 01.

BIOGRAPHY: Ragnar Desto is the elder brother of Eta Desto, Baron Drano’s wife. His sister’s marriage to the Baron greatly boosted his own personal power, elevating his status to a par with the other family members. There have been reports of the Desto family having pyskic abilities for many years now, but whenever a Black Ship went through the Sector and an Interrogator was sent to investigate, they always managed to meet with an accident. Ragnar’s location on this near aqua planet does seem to prove the rumours, though it does not verify it with certainty.

KNOWN FORCES: Nothing is known about the inhabitants of Knines, other than their unique aquatic lifestyle. It is unknown whether or not any of the natives have been recruited to join him, or whether they are being used as slave labour.

And look, this one has a decision point.

Just how should Kharn allocate the assassins under his command? Sending who to which target.

There isn't time to take each one out individually, and all the the secondary targets must be removed before the attempt on the Baron can begin.

Hmm an interesting family tree we have here.

Alright, strategy. Four targets, four assassins.

For Claudia, we need some infiltration tactics, so the Callidus Temple assassins would work best.

Count Iblou is going to need a little force when it comes to his loyal guards thus the Eversor assassins is the most logical choice when a little persuasion is needed.

Taking on Ragnor is difficult since we know so little about his world. My instinct first told was the Vindicare, but I think it is better for our souless friends the assassins of Culexus deal with him.

That leaves the Vindicare to deal with the Vice-Count Zarcoff.

I am guessing all four will go after the primary target once the secondary ones are out of the game.

Remember, dealing with the guards is not necessarily important. For Count Iblou it may be possible to either circumnavigate them, or go through them.

How about 2 assassins each for 2 targets? Would the timelines be good for that?

There really isn't time - all four secondary targets and the primary target are expected to be eliminated with two weeks time.

"You have should by now rendezvoused with your latest associates." That made me laugh.

"A giant of a man, nearly a full head over most of his contemporise, Baron Drano used to be highly respected by the Imperium, his taxes were always paid on time and in full, often paying more than the expected 40%."

"There have been reports of the Desto family having pyskic abilities for many years now, but whenever a Black Ship went through the Sector and an Interrogator was sent to investigate, they always managed to meet with an accident."

H'okay... assassins...

If Desto has psychich powers as is rumoured, or has psychic family members nearby, let's send the Culexus over to him.

Zarcoff should get the Callidus - after all, on a ship of million's of crewmembers, we don't want to send the Eversor, as that would be a waste of life, the Vindicare might be a little restricted by the small enviroment, and the Culexus would be viewed with suspicion.

Claudia however would also be good for the Callidus, to deal with the paranoia, unless we send the Eversor in - everyone around her is loyal to her, so should be killed anyways.

That leaves the Vindicare to Iblou - not sure how that would work. He doesn't sound like the kind of person to give inspiring speeches, but I think a long ranged attack would work best on him aas his bodyguards would be ineffectual.

I think out of all the secondary targets, Claudia is the easiest. We know her weakness, and we can exploit it easily through infiltration.

Yay, a decision point. Looking more promising now Lordy. Very Happy

I think that for Iblou, the Vindicare would be best. He may not go round making important speeches, but he would be making rounds with his troops, so a long-range attack could work with him. All the others would also be difficuly for a Vindicare, so he is the best option for them.

For Claudia I think an Eversor would be best. As Araex said, all her guards are loyal, so killing them is almost a requirement, and a juicy Eversor would be best for that. Direct and brutal.

For Zarcoff I think the Callidus should be sent. She could access the ship relatively easily, and blend in easily with the multitude of crewmembers aboard the ship.

As for Ragnar, the only option left appears to be a Culexus. And as he possibly has psykick abilities, then this would also be a good choice. But if he doesn't then it could all go horribly wrong. I don't know exactly how good Culexus are at killing non-psykers, but I don't think they are any where near as effective as any of the other types. Do we have long enough to properly establish whether he is or does the mission have quite a strict time limit? Anyway, I guess that's the best set of options. Let's see what become of our loverly incestuous family! Wink

Sorry - there is really not enough time to establish whether or not the rumours about Ragnar are founded or not.

And, in all honesty, the Imerium cares not at all about loss of life - In a universe of a thousand million planets, what does one life matter?

I wouldn't think they would. They're assassins, their only duty is to kill no matter consequences.

Great...decision time. Very Happy

The countess would best be taken out on one of her infrequent jaunts...perfect for a sniper such as Morias Skult.

Count Iblou however has many loyal guards and moves about freely, clearly prepared for a variety of attacks. Perhaps a covert, shape-shifting op from the Callidus Temple could get the job done.

The vice-count should be eliminated by Djar Kranor.

And Slindo Graft, who can resist psykers, should take out Sir Ragnar Desto von Cumshulk.

Well then, that's the loverly poll up.

Everyone has suggested Slindo Graft to take on Ragner, so I'll leave him out of the poll, leaving just the three family members.

And Fauna - just so you know - when I said the Countess makes infrequent jaunts - that means maybe once a year - if you're lucky.

Voted for the first one, 'cos I like the name, if you read it a certain way. Aha.

Oh, and made it a tie. How delightful.

Plus the fact that I never read things at loud, so I don't notice when you get a name like that.

Now then, if nobody votes, I'll have to break the tie.

Which may not be a bad idea, seeing how I know which is the best for each assassin...

Grrr - stupid poll. Now I'll have to break it.

The Vindicare Assassin, Mordias Skult, will be assigned to take out the ruthless, the something else, the other thing...Count Iblou Cumshulk.

Any possible assassination plans that you people can come up with will be appreciated, because otherwise I might have to think of them myself. Which I don't want to do - I'll start the chapter tonight, with or without your help, and end it somewhere, but that doesn't mean you're off the hook.

Remember - this is a very extroverted man, who takes pride in giving speeches to his troops and is often seen around the city - use it to your advantage with the snipers bullet.

And the poll is offically closed - so don't vote if you expect to make a difference.

Well we can't exactly vote, since the poll has already been deleted. Wink

Could we get the Iblou guy when he is doing one of his speeches? Or maybe catching him when he is on the streets? I don't think it will be possible to get time alone with the guy, even to shoot him from a distance.

We need to somehow find his routine plan, and then use it to find a day when he will be making a public appearance. Then we need to find a building that has sufficiant view of the target area. Then we need to get out guy in position and wait for the count with a terrible name.

Then, when he is most exposed, and preferably making a speech or something, maybe kissing a baby, we should load a nice big anti-tank round, and then shoot him, preferably in the face. Don't kill the baby, just shower it liberally with blood and brain matter. That'll do it.

Secondary Target A – Count Iblou Cumshulk.
Part 1

As the single unit pod hurtled through space, Morias Skult reviewed the details listed on the data-slate in front of him. Traitors such as the Baron and his family deserved nothing more than a simple bullet. The small pod shuddered slightly as the retro-engines were engaged; the atmospherically-sealed transport – undetectable by all bar the most advanced systems – designed to deliver its cargo safely and within minutes of ignition.

With barely a jolt the small black craft rocked onto the surface. The Vindicare Assassin slunk out, Exitus Pistol raised as he glanced cautiously around, just on the off chance a civilian of Palas was for some reason in the desert. Seeing none he reached back into the pod, and removed his primary weapon, the black long barrelled rifle barely visible in the dark of night. Sealing the pod, his fingers quickly darting over the control panel as he entered in his unique identification code, the craft doors sliding shut and the cameoline concealment shield activating, rendering the craft invisible to the outside world. Morias stepped backwards as the pod disappeared, the black body suit revealing no sign of emotion to the outside world.

Nearly invisible himself, he crept through the sandy desert, leaving faint foot-prints only the most observant of searchers could pick out. Heading westward towards the city, it wasn’t long before he came across a road leading the same direction. The road – which was more of a dirt beaten track – ran straight along the desert as far as the eye could see. The assassin’s ears picked up the sound of an engine long before his eyes could in the open darkness, heading towards the city of what was once Getifex, but known now only as Iblou City.

Activating his mask with a simple touch of a button, the desert blazed into light – the spy mask picking up the heat sources and modifying them for human eyes to see. In the distance was a strong heat source, powerful engine. Whirring through the different settings, selecting night vision and increasing the magnification Skult was able to enhance the view to such a level to bring the vehicle into sight. The ambient star-light from above gathered by the device before negatively charging the photons to electrons and amplified in number, before being hurled against the phosphorus screen to modify them back into visible light.

The truck – for that’s what it was – came into view, the engine purring as the driver gunned towards the city, obviously looking to reach it before nightfall. Dropping to one knee, Morias swung the long barrelled rifle around and peered through the barrel. The extra range afforded by the high-powered weapon allowed the assassin to get a clear bead on the driver’s forehead. Resting his finger lightly along the trigger, Morias shadowed the target as he drew closer. Ten metres later he drew in his breath, and tightened his grip, the silenced weapon sending a high-powered round streaming through the air, puncturing the windscreen with barely a sound, and impacting with the driver’s skull. Satisfied, he climbed to his feet, ejecting the empty shell and placing it within the hidden pouch at the butt of the gun.

As he strode towards the car – still 2,000 feet away – he considered his options of how to eliminate the Count. The First Rule of the Vindicare Temple – When a single round will suffice, to use more is in excess, prayed heavily upon his mind, and he thought back to his first mission – his graduation mission – the one which made turned the young untested initiate into a tool of the Imperium.

The planet Stanbore IV, located in the Stanbore System. Nearly thirteen years ago. Orks had invaded the system and taken control of half the planets located there. Stanbore IV had been an industrial planet, one of the major Forge Worlds of the Imperium, and it was vital that the orks did not discover some of the secrets located deep within the planets core. It had been said that the Tech-Adapts of Mars themselves had decreed the use of an Imperial Assassin in this instance, something unprecedented in recent history.

Single-handedly selected from of all the trainees, Morias had felt chosen, felt as if he had been tasked with the mission by the God-Emperor of Mankind himself. Tasked with the elimination of the ork Warlord Barazgh Ns’kul, commander of the ork Waaaagghh, and ordered to spread as much havoc among the ground forces as possible in order to slow the construction of their machines, he knew from the onset it would not be a walk in the park.

It was upon arrival however, that he discovered just how difficult it would be. Over forty thousand orks worked on the plants, barely a hundredth of the total invasion fleet. Ns’kul himself had a retinue of fifty boyz, who were constantly with the Warlord. And that was not all. The orks had delved deep inside the Tech-Adapts database, and discovered the secrets within. They were building a Gargant.

A massive ork war machine, stretching over thirty metres into the air. A full thousand tonnes of steel, of machinery. Of weaponry. Able to conquer entire armies of foot-soldiers, struggling off lascannons and missile launchers as if they were mere mosquito bites. And the orks were building one on Stanbore IV.

It was several days before he was able to conceive a plan to cause maximum devastation, and nearly another full week before he was in a position to carry it out. His body cramped after a full week of remaining immobile, the orks passing within a hundred feet of his position daily, his mind was still prepared, the liturgies of faith he had learnt since childhood still ingrained on his mind.

The Turbo-Penetrator round had taken the Warlord in the throat from over a thousand feet away, lifting him off the ground and slamming him backwards into the machine he had been standing before to give his speech just moments before. The high powered, armour piercing bullet continued rising however, as it sprayed from the back of his thick skull and into the Gargant’s armoured plated body. The small rapidly spinning round bit into one of the many wires inside the monstrosity, creating a spark that travelled along the power line at speeds greater for the eye to see. Within moments, the spark hit the weapon power lines, sending the systems into overdrive, explosive bolts launching in all directions, sending ork bodies flying.

That is nothing to the explosion that happens, as the Gargant itself detonates, scraps of flying metal catapulting in all directions. The chances of a single round exploding a Titan sized creature are not even worth considering, and Morias does not, just evacuates from his position with all speed, before returning to his shuttle and leaving the planet.

Upon returning the Temple, he is decorated by the Masters, and is shown all the respect of an experienced and capable assassin. The single shot that he thought defeated an army, he later learnt to be worthless, as the Imperial Navy simply virus bombed the planet, after Inquisitor Dario of Ordo Xenos declared the ork taint had spread to far for them to be simply hunted out. The declaration of Exterminatus had seemed almost an insult to him at first, before he learnt that was part of serving the Emperor, that your deeds may only be glorious through His eyes.

Snapping out of his daze as he reached the truck, he pulled the door open, and ignored the previous owner’s body as it tumbled out, their head unrecognisable with half the face missing. Kneeling, and removing a small canister, he raked the body back and forth with the dissolutionary agent. By day-break, the acid would have eaten through both the body and clothing, leaving no trace of the corpse. Without a backwards glance, Skult hoisted himself up into the now abandoned vehicle, and drove off along the dirt track.

It is nearly sun-rise when he abandoned the vehicle, its purpose now served. Walking the two miles to Iblou City, it is a simple matter to infiltrate the heavy urban environment. After killing the inhabitants of one of the many slum dwellings, Morias removed his light-weight armour and Syn-Skin, before requisitioning the clothing from one of the dead inhabitants.

The next move was to establish the most effective way of eliminating the target. Taking the opportunity of civilian clothes to explore the city and sight out the most obvious positions, he was startled to discover that the architecture of the city had remained more or less the same since the Count’s takeover. It is in Central Square that he discovered why, as broad-casters situated along the Hall of Judges blare into life.

“Attention. Attention. In accordance with Imperial Law, Order 489, sub-section 24 all citizens aged eighteen to twenty-five must now spend at least seven years in the military forces of the planet, unless they have a job deemed vital to the war effort. For the full list of viable jobs view sub-sector 25. As such, this city has been has been designated as ground infantry.

All citizens must meet here tomorrow after the second shift, for an assembly called by Count Iblou himself. Attendance is mandatory.”

Storing this information, Morias makes his way back to the out slums. As he equipped himself fully once more, he considered what he had learnt. Apparently the Count had kept the information that the system was now opposed to the Emperor’s Name hidden, if the citizens still believed they were following Imperial Law. Imperial Law 489 decreed that all pets must be fully licensed and quarantined upon purchase, nothing related to conscription. However, the news that the Count would be in Central Square tomorrow was worthwhile, especially if he was giving a speech on the army virtues.

However, the heightened security that this would no doubt lead to could well cause a problem. Waiting and infiltrating his Count’s quarters could prove to be the more successful option. With a rare smile, Morias came to a decision.

If Morias is quick and stealthy, I think he has a better chance of getting a quick bullet into the Count's head or something.

And the crowds, I would think would give him a opportunity to escape unnoticed probably.

Like it Lordy, very nice. I only have one slight thingy. Would he really do that with the truck? It could be missed and may alert someone. It's only a small point, but still, it's a risk.

He is a hotshot assassin. I think he should be able to work something out. Like Rav said, the crowds may work in his favor, espially if he can add a bit of panic to the scene.

Yay! A normal chapter at last! Very Happy

A few points:

Quote:
the black body suit revealing no sign of emotion to the outside world

This line was pretty redundant. It seemed as though you had just put it in to show that he was a ruthless assassin, but it didn't really work in the context. It would be much better if worked into the bit where he kills the truck driver.

Quote:
As he strode towards the car

This should be truck, I think. It's a little confusing as car; makes one think that there is another vehicle.

Now, I think that, as a Vindicare assassin, I think he would be capable of dealing with the protection that the count could bring to bear. Find a vantage point and wait. Preferably one that won't be too difficult to escape from.

*holds breath* Shocked

Well it is a good idea to have a escape route, should the plan fail, and escape is necesary.

Use the long-range skill to his advantage. Why get up close and personal? Even with heightened security, if he's sure of his target then he shouldn't have any trouble making his mark.

I think two options present themselves:

The first would be to hire a room overlooking the square, giving false ID, or in someway to get a position above the meeting.

The other is to sneak into the Count's residence whilst he is out with his guards. Lay a trap of some sort with a secure escape route - just because we can act from afar doesn't mean we must.

OK, it seems as if there's been three options put forwards so far.

1. Find a sniping posistion from a building above the Square, and take him out from there.

2. Mingle with the crowd, and use the mass of people to conceal yourself while taking the shot.

3. Infiltrate the Count's Headquarters, and lay in wait for him there.

Any others?
