Glad you enjoyed it Crady, but it's not really going to be possible to dress up as a Shade I'm afraid, as they are insubstantial beings from beyond the pale. Very Happy

well done cren, another fine chappy. Is there a portal that the necromancer knows of that can lead smur and the others to where the shades reside, for lack of a better term?they obviously have the means of transferring living, solid people to the other side, and the necromancer should know where it is, seeing as he escaped them once before.

I'm finding it difficult to remember the source of Smur's powers here.

When he first met the Necromancer, the Necromancer implied that since Smur had been touched with a Shade, he might be capable of some of the same powers as him. Like the blue power cube, for example.

However, the Black Devils have different powers (orange firebolts) which come from their gloves, so they are weapons...

The Shades are wary of the Black Devils, and were also wary of the Necromancer, but I'm still a little unsure of the explanation of the Shades that was given a few chapters back...

The tower was where the portal to the infinite future was... I wonder whether it could be used again.

The other thing I can't get my head around is if the Shades are really without substance, how would they be able to hold and take something that IS with substance?

The powers come from a mixture of the effect of the Shades on the body, and the Blue medicine, which runs through all black devils suits.

The Shades are afraid of the Blue, but only those 'touched' by Shades seem to be capable of using the Blue in a more aggressive fashion.

The Shades are insubstancial, for the most part, but they can manifest themselves into a more solid form when they 'feed'. Presumably they could, if they so desired, take a physical object too. Unless of course it wasn't an actual Shade that took it, but a... Collector*! Shocked

*Something that hasn't been actually seen in the story... so far.

Yes I remember about the Collectors, Smur believed at the time that the Collectors had taken his daughter. The Bis'p said the Collectors were just stories to frighten people.

I just had a glance back at some of the earlier chapters, and I dunno, it might help if the myths and stories of the Faith of Smur's tribe could be recapped in the light of what Smur has learned in the last few days. The Destroyer, the Shades, the Collectors, the second coming...

It would be nice to bring it all into perspective in the story somehow, and get an understanding of the reality of what's going on and the effect it has had on the way the Tribe has lived their lives over the generations. A lot of what Smur has learned and lived by throughout his whole life must have completely shattered by now, and his daughter (who doesn't knw as much as him yet) would be similarly disorientated.

Mmm, that could well be useful CF. I'll try and get on that. Probably help me too. The history of this place and time has evolved since the beginning of the story. I admit there have been a few times I've not kept up myself with it!

Lol! After all the nitpicks I've given you Z, it's only fair! Good points though.

Good ideas so far people, any others?

I've put the poll up. Summon the spirit of voting.

I took the liberty of adding another option too, which was going back to Draggon's tribe and trying ot use that machine (if you remember it) to open a small hole to 'climb' through.

Cool Smile Possibilities could include attempting to use the shades assistance to the other side only to end up in an unexpected portal where history and future glimpse alternatives, as father and daughter reconcile to team up and find the next tool.... Very entertaining to this real newbie.
