Perhaps a little more information about Jakeen and the patterns of magic he recognizes in his music, might assist the team in forming battle plans and making decisions for our young bard. Some of this information is taken from the chapters already posted, and this is by far not an all-inclusive list.

Jakeen already recognized many patterns, although he wasn't always sure how to direct his thoughts. Yahoo instructed him in controlling his magic, and focusing his thoughts as he played to achieve the desired magical effect. Natural talent has lent Jakeen the ability to expand skills, from the concrete instructions Yahoo gave to the intuitive playing of the patterns he saw in his mind.

Similar to casting a spell, bards shape the forces of magic through the vibrations of their songs and cause an effect in all who are listening. The spells can be focused through channelling or controlling the thoughts associated with the magical patterns saw in the music.

Bards play up to 12 different musical notes. There are the whole-step notes A B C D E F G – and five half-steps in between. Since sharpening a Whole Note simply raises it a half-step and flattening one similarly lowers it, each of these five notes is known by a double name. A# (A sharp) = Bb (B flat). C#=Db. D# =Eb. F#=Gb. G#=Ab.

While the musical notation remains similar in transcription to more traditional music, bards are able to produce special sounds that go beyond the effects of ordinary music. By using a musical instrument such as a lyre or harp, bards cause magical harmonies.

At least three notes are required to create substantial magical effects, and up to seven notes can be strung together to create more impressive magic. Too many notes and the combinations become unstable, and have been known to result in lethal backfires of the harmonies. The whole notes - A B C D E F G - have heavier weight than sharps and flats. Depending on the order in which they are played, the notes may have lighter or heavier weights.

Jakeen’s Patterns

Jakeen already clearly recognizes several patterns, and has played many of them under the guidance of Yahoo during his brief instruction. Other patterns may come to him during battle, but the spells on this list he definitely knows how to focus and manipulate, to varying degrees. Some spells affect him as well as his opponent, such as Pleasure, Anger, or Thirst. His intensity of thought and play increases the force and effects of the spell.

    Pleasure: G# F Eb
    Fire: G A B
    Wind: E F A
    Lightning Bolt: G A B D#
    Healing: A G E F# E
Levitation (Others or objects, not self): F# C# E A
Shield from Magic (Only self, not others or objects, limited): A A# B D#
    Thirst: Eb C# E
    Anger: B A D G
    Detect Dim: A C E
    Dim (A form of invisibility): F A D E
    Haste: G E Eb

Remember, new patterns might come to Jakeen in times of crisis. He has rich natural talent and is very intuitive with his musical magic, although untrained in so many aspects of creating spells.
