Linking

Linking is useful in many ways - especially as the forums gather more and more posts and threads to keep track of.

The easiest way is to just type in the address:

http://www.cityofIF.com
or
www.cityofIF.com

It will automatically be turned into a link.

But if you don't want to type out the address - you want an actual link, with some descriptive text to click on - you can use the URL tags when you are creating a post.

When you are writing it in the post it will look like this:

Code:
[url=http://www. cityofIF.com] A storygaming site you should check out [/url]

When submitted it looks like this :

A storygaming site you should check out

This comes in especially handy for linking to other posts or threads on this site because the address is so long and meaningless:

http://www.cityofif.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=19771#19771

By putting it in URL tags and adding a message instead it becomes much more understandable.

Happy Writing. Very Happy

When you wish to link to a specific post within a thread, rather than linking to the entire thread, you will need to copy the link to the post of interest. To locate the link, look at the header for the post:

:!: Posted: Sun Jun 12, 2005 2:23 pm Post subject: Images

A small box appears beside the word Posted, replaced in this example with the :!:

This is the shorcut unique to that post. Copy that shortcut, and then you can use the linking technique as outlined above by Smee.

Code:
[url=http://www.cityofif.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=19771#19771]Specific Post About Images[/url]

Specific Post About Images

Linking with an image

You can make an image into a link. This way, when you click the image, it follows the link. This is done be adding an image in the normal way, then putting the link tags around it.

Here's the result (click it!):

Here's what it looks like in code (image tags within link tags):
Code:
[url=http://www.cityofif.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=51][img]http://www.cityofif.com/forum/album_pic.php?pic_id=1191[/img][/url]
