All,
This story is the one bid on in my 'Story of Greed' thread.

I am not very happy with the title at the moment. Suggestions always listened to!

Opportunities for bribery will be presented, and I intend to include characters from The City in this game!

I mean to do this in a humorous* fashion, so I hope everyone can take a joke! If you really don't want to 'join in' please let me know! I don't mean to offend, though it will include adult situations, some of which may be quite strong!

*Is that how you spell that?

Blimey! That was quick, didn't even have time to post the first chapter!

And before anyone says anything: Yes, I appreciate the irony of having the super Goody hero called Evil Homer!

Are we going back to the auction forum to bid on the name for chapter 2, or are we staying here to do it?

A few technicalities...

chinaren wrote:
The Villain.

Phang sat on his dark throne and caressed the obsidian skull carving under his hand. He loved his throne, it had taken 101 innocent children, tortured non-stop for three days and nights and then sacrificed to the demons to get it, but it was worth every young scream. The throne was obsidian black, and carved with images of many different evils. The back towered high above him, topped off by the grinning face of a hideous devil. Grown men had been known to fall down and weep at the very sight of it; some had even lost their sanity, a reaction that pleased Phang mightily. He chuckled to himself at the very thought, his laughter echoing around his dark throne room, causing his loyal followers (every one had been broken to Phangs will, with methods too horrible to record here) to smile and nod happy drooling smiles, pleased that their master was happy.

For the less fortunate souls held in the hall (hung, strapped and nailed on and into a variety of interesting devices) the laughter sounded like pure evil, which it probably was.

At the sound of his master’s chuckling, Mudib came closer to him. Phang reached down and patted Mudib’s head, stroking it in an absent-minded fashion.

Mudib was another of his many triumphs. Some time ago, when his campaign of evil was still young, Mudib had been a powerful king in the land of Drif. His land and armies had fought mightily against Phang’s dark forces, but had slowly been forced back and back.

Finally Mudib came forth on the battlefield and offered his life if Phang would spare his kingdom. Phang had assured him that he would do so, and Mudib had been taken into the Dark Lair. Of course, after that the Dark Lord’s forces had taken great delight in razing every city in Drif to the ground, torturing, killing and enslaving the inhabitants.

When Phang had informed Mudib of the fate of his kingdom, the ex-king had lost all will to live. Still, Phang was no mere villain. He was the Dark Lord, and letting Mudib live would have been too easy. Instead, he had Mudib’s limbs removed (slowly and painfully of course) and replaced them with small wheels powered by a perpetual motion engine. Now the mutilated thing could wheel himself around by a device controlled by the nodding of his head.

Phang had allowed Mudib to keep his other organs, though he was beginning to think that he may have to have him neutered, as the limbless creature had been rather too frisky with his favorite hound lately. It was expecting another litter of pups, and the offspring of the previous litters had been rather strange, even by Phang’s standards.

He dismissed the thought for the moment, coming back to ponder more serious problems. The Last Kingdom was still resisting all efforts at domination. He frowned as he re-read the latest campaign reports from his generals. The combined forces of Elves, Gnomes and Humans at the Pass of Cra-yon were still secure behind the great fort there. The Elvish magicians were neutralizing his own mages, whilst human wizards used their magic to attack. The gnome’s cannons were also causing devastation amongst the ground troops, forcing the bulk of his army to retreat out of range. Now they were requesting his presence on the battlefield. Impertinence! Incompetence! Imbeciles! And any other negative words beginning with ‘I’. He kicked Mudib across the room in a sudden temper causing him to land on his back and yelp in agony. One of his leg wheels flew off and rolled across the floor.

Phang was distracted by the sight of Mudib trying to right himself, and the sight of the creature sadly wheeling along after his lost limb was enough to put a smile back on his face.

He stood up in a much more positive frame of mind. Perhaps he had been away from the battlefield too long. It was all well and good torturing innocents tucked away in his castle, but perhaps it was time to go and maim, kill and rampage in the open again. Remind the common masses why they lived in fear of him again. Yes, that was it. A little fresh air and bloodletting would do him good.

He strode forward, his huge black cloak billowing behind him, despite the lack of wind. He just had to see to the latest prisoner first. He strode majestically to the holding cell, where the morning victim was chained up.

“You!” he commanded to the groveling wretch, a human male. Spots and scabs covered his face; obviously a childhood disease had left him horribly disfigured. “What is your name?”

Other than that, a great story Very Happy

I have fixed name and gender issues! I have paid myself enough fables to not be used, at least this early one!

Put down suggestions for names here. Any bidding that arises from suggestions etc shall go in the Market place thread.

Hmm, who should it be?
Should it be Smee?
Or better yet, Key
(and his Doctor's degree).
Perhaps even me,
The Powers that Be!
I would suggest she
who is from Tennessee
but it must be a he.
So now, as you see
You have choices - three!
Some may pay a fee
To get themselves free
From this brand new story.
Now please pardon me,
As I must go and pee.

It could well be,
That you use me,
But can't you see,
Over in that tree,
The Powers that Be,
Shouting "Pick me, Pick Me."

Creepy new avatar you have there. Surprised

Arg! Enough of the rhyming already!! Wall Bash

Yes, I usually like to use 'homegrown' pics for my av', despite my total and utter lack of artistic ability. However I just downloaded a whole bucketfull of pics, and this one just screamed out to be used!

That last post was me of course.

So, no names? I will pick one from the member list, starting with someone who has posted little, as this is a small part.

Okay, well I have Smee, Key and the Powers that Be as nomi-names.

I was going to have the chosen person tortured horribly to death, but the people nominated are more 'high profile' than I would like to do that to. Well, at least this early on in the game as I still haven't figured out completely where this is going. <sighs>

So. Two choices split into two further choices...

Pick a name from the ones chosen and torture them to death horribly (unless they bribe me not too of course Very Happy )

OR

Pick a name from the chosen three and do something else with them (not decided what yet, suggestions welcome (though nothing pleasant of course, we are talking about Phang here)).

Comments, or should I put up a poll? Arg. I am very indecisive today.

3. THE POWERS THAT BE.

Smee, would you, could you fix it please? So sorry, don't know what happened there.

*grin* I assumed you'd left it out because you didn't allow self-nomination. In that case, you might want to take the vote back down to zero again. Very Happy

Curses, now I just confused. Confused

Sod it, I'm going to bed, I've been up far too long today and I am not thinking straight. I will figure this out tomorrow.

Yes, the great and mighty IM is ready to show up in some fashion or other.
(Lack of entrance music causes IM to look just plain silly.)
Ah...yes...
Hmm.
I pick some random sod from the slums of IF to take the place of the tourtured soul.
Failing that, go ahead and use me.
I'm actually nominating myself for a horrid place...
I can only remember one other time I did that...
*Shudders at the memory of the grass shield...*
Smee knows what I'm talking about...

Well done again!

A few spelling errors...

Hmm.
Not me! Not me!
I'm bribing you elsewhere for a much different role!
I nominate my old brother Sorrow A!
(We've cloned him many times, this is the second try. The original...you don't REALLY want to know, do you?)

Hello LordotNight, not seen you here b4. Welcome to the party, and my thread(s) in particular! (see my sig for my other stories)

You can put yourself forward for the Ranger leader role this chapter, or you can suggest another character here or in the other thread. Of course, bribes are accepted!! Very Happy

Duke, thanks for the spellos! Corrected.

Ingrothechundyer. Your nomination noted. Mmmm, I don't have you anywhere in here yet do I? Laughing

Muaddib: I am anticipating "heavy casualties" as this story gets going! I like your little wheely thing character, so it is unlikely to meet its demise (until near the end, when there will likely be mass deaths) though if someone bribes me... Wink

I.Master: I am watching the bidding carefully. I must say, I quite like the idea of a 'toady', but I should follow my own 'greed' ruling. Of course, there will be other characters you could be a toady to, but Phang would be ideal. Mmm.

Everyone: This story is currently building up momentum, and I am introducing characters as I go. When I am in work (and get time) I am going to print out the Membership list and pick characters from that. Members of IF who post more frequently will tend to get more major characters. People who read and coment/vote on my stories will also be likely given more major roles. And of course, people who pay me will feature highly as well!! Very Happy

This storygame has been nominated for SGotM (November) by our very own wheely toy; Muaddib, so please stop by and vote for it once voting starts!! Very Happy I think this SG will work well in its own thread, and I am considering retracting my nomination acceptance for Narg, as I am quite happy with that story where it is.

Thank-you for reading, and any plot or character ideas welcome!!

I vote Smee.

It's now a weird name for a person such as The Powers That Be (no offense) and fits into the storyline and sounds like a name.

I wonder, what's Smee's real name? Could it be Smee? Shocked

I wonder... Cool Laughing

Okay, the poll for who should be the squad leader to go with Evil Homer and co. is up. Remember, this mission is to intercept the extremely evil Phang and company, so there is a chance of casualties or, even worse, capture! Shocked Shocked

Vote away. I will give it until Sunday or Monday, depending upon the number of votes and how busy I am over the weekend. Then we will see episode 3, with the likely addition of Key the Chamber Pot, with the way bidding is going over in the Market-place!

<rubs his hands in anticipation of including the chamber pot in the story>

Okay, I think the voting is closed, and the whole sordid 'chamber pot' bidding escapade has now closed over in the market, so I am going to start writing the next chapter.

If inspiration comes to me this should be up anytime, the best being today the latest probably Tuesday. My work keeps getting in the way of my escapist life here. Mad <shakes fist>

Phheew!! That took a bit of doing I can tell you, what with all this Chamber pot stuff and all the rest.

Anyway, initial contact has been made, and the result is a draw, but Phang is through and heading for the Fort at Cra-yon.

What should Homer do now? Try and rush to the fort and warn them? Gather the wounded and recover? Something else?
Comments and suggestion please, and don’t forget, any character suggestions for you or others; this has a way to run yet!!!

Of what?

And what happened to the chamber pot? Surely such a dignified and powerful artifact as that could not be destroyed so easily.

Anyway, gather what forces you can, EH, and head for the fort. Hopefully Phang is weakened, and you can probably catch up to her slug without having to rush.

Oh well, we can always try again later.
And a slug that goes fast...okay.
And chamber pots deflecting spells is rather odd...

Great chapter, chinaren! Very Happy

I think they should chase after Phang and try to steal the magic chamber-pot. Clearly it is an item of great power and dignity and may be the key to winning this conflict.

Hey, my brother said I was in here. Just in case you missed it, here it is again!:

"Homer was in the lead on his large white war horse ‘Araex’"

For those of you who missed it the second time as well:

"Homer was in the lead on his large white war horse ‘Araex’"

Right. Cool story!

I didn't know you were brothers - good to see you around Araex, you seem to be fairly absent at the moment.

Sorry for the typos people, I wrote this ep at full speed and I was tired so it all began to blur at the end... Confused

A few points, just to re-assure and explain:

So far* no character has died, including the chamber pot (in fact, if the story went on money paid, this would be called 'The story of the Herioc Chamber Pot' Shocked ) I have decided to try and make sure everyone is in at least two chapters before they get bumped off.

For who gets put in, unless you pay me Smile then I will put people in a bit randomly for 'bit parts', starting with the people with least Fables first, on the theory that people with Fables have posted here recently. Araex had about the least Fables, so he got the horse.

The bidding hadn't quite finished on the toady, and it didn't seem a good place to put that character in yet. I will try and put characters (who have paid) in as soon as possible, but I won't artificially twist the story to get them in early. Be patient!

Of course, as Hyperion has found out, I have a deviant imagination, Laughing so be prepared for whatever when you are put in!!

Gotta dash, no time today!

*But they will

It ok little rabbit! Now you big and strong and part meteor-mage!

Hey Chinaren, they should get super-shape-changing powers to help defeat the evil mage! That way Hyperion gets more power, to compensate for being defeated by the chamber-pot, and Stoat is finally big enough to hunt bigger things... behold the Shaderion Hyper-Stoat!

--------------------------

As for the plan:
If the Shaderion Hyper-Stoat is able, it can send a magical message to warn the fort. Then they can all lick their wounds and try to get some more backup before chasing down the Dark Lady.

Hehe. Actually it should just read:

I have added the * and the ** in already.[/i]

Mmm, I will consider this as it could lead to a new auction for the hero. If I get a new hero I will travel back in time and erase you from this thread. However, you will remain in the Narg thread, so you will have to lump that one.

And... no refunds!! Very Happy

Saving for a rainy day?! Actually, just it's just an end unto itself really. Mind you, Key has now introduced lots of fancy new stuff to use your Fables on, so I may partake of one of those delicacies!

Thats all well and fair I suppose, but how about investing it in a plan to change the world? For example you could join the Brethren of the Five Eyes - or the All-Seeing Eye - and be guarenteed your own country within three hundred years time. There is of course the small matter of the entrance charge of course.

Race after Phang - how fast can the slug really be going. Surprised

She wouldn't be running away unless she was vulnerable - now is the time.

Sorry Duke! That poll was for chapter 3! Mind you, now I look at it, it's a bit of a similiar type of ending isn't it?

I can see I need to be a bit more creative! I blame it on this blocked nose, sore throat and throbbing headache.

Great chapter. Very Happy

The old poll has been deleted.

EH seems to be outgunned somewhat. He needs to head back and gather some more powerful allies. Maybe Sorrow can be of some use, but it seems like it wouldn't be a good idea to linger around him too long.

Happy Writing. Smile

P.S.

*blinks* I dread to think! You've already got people paying to be drowned in the contents of a chamber pot and to be turned into giant furry animals. It's pure genius! Laughing

What to do next? Well, evil tends to know exactly what it wants, while good tends to be indecisive.

So...

Fools rush back, I think Very Happy

The Stoat makes a good point. Decision points are hard at the best of times and so far yours are doing well.

So what if the poll is much the same. The situation certainly isn't. Events unfold, things change and the same decision crops up again.

Worry not. Smile

Ayaaa! I can only do so much you know!

This chapter I had to add in Sorrow and his/her(anyone?) minion, as well as Lord of the Night and yet still keep it to a suitable chapter size and keep the plot-thread running smoothly!

I suppose you could always re-bribe me for a bigger part! Very Happy

The Chamber pot, as you know, was last seen on LotN's head. They will both return, never fear. In fact I have an idea about LotN who will have quite a good time at some point in the near future, when/if I can fit it in of course! Shocked

Bwahahaha! Great story, Chinaren. Very entertaining.

I'd be willing to donate some credits if Dean One-Leg of the Hood could come hobbling back to the rescue. Not sure how the payment process works though. Is there a minimum, or do I just donate as much as I'm willing? Is 5 fables too small? Lol....

You need to go to his matching thread in the marketplace and then put in your bid for what you want.

And then evil guys like me come along and bid that you lose the other leg instead Razz

I'm glad to see that I'm getting my money's worth. I'm not only highly magical and dignified, but I get to foil both the good and the evil sides. Very Happy

As for EvilHomer, there's no time to lose. He must quickly gather the merry men and ride to help the forces at Cra-yon. With Sorrow and Hyperistoat (or whatever he's called) he's now has two wizards on his side to counter the Dark Lady's magic. Let us go forward, to be paladin-like and heroic!

but its too late to turn back! If you do, you'll have to confront the demon again, and this time you might not be so lucky. Plus you'd lose time, and what good are five men? Sorrow and her wretch probably will be unwilling to go back anyway. Instead, why don't we roll a rock from the pass on the camp down below, to create havoc. Sorrow can do that, and homer can try get phang. Am I going too much ahead?

Okay, poll is up, but other suggestions considered!

I am not sure where everyone got the idea that Sorrow wouldn't want to stay around though, I didn't intend to put that over. Mind you, unless he/she coughs up the Fables for winning the minion auction they will be heading for a gruesome death very soon! Shocked

I don't think Sorrow is going to leave - but this paragraph suggests being near him too long turns you into something akin to Idea Master. Is this not true?

Quote:
“I am Sorrow, that is all you need to know for now. For Sorrow is my name and Sorrow travels with me wherever I go.” Sorrow pointed a gloved hand towards the figure scrambling in the mud. “That soul used to be called the Master of Ideas. Now he is nothing but a wretch with his only thought being to serve me. A penance for actions past.”

I've voted for gather strength.

<Moved to its own thread>

- - -

Is all lost? Has Phang tasted triumph as well as demon? Who is Sorrow, and what is his plan? Where was Key and Mother Goose? Why am I asking all these questions?

What should Homer and assorted merry men do now?

Try to find and kill Phang?
Turn back to find Sorrow and his ‘alternative solution’?
Try and get through to the fort anyway?
Another cunning plan?

I await your comment, bids, bribes and suggestions!

Erm, Phang in my story is actually several hundred years old! And I am fairly certain there was no sodomy* involved! At least, not in this chapter! Wink

Waaay! My 600th post! Smile

Well of course you have a right to your opinion, and I respect that. However, I DID put up a big red sign at the top:

Quote:
Warning: Contains scenes of defilement, depravity, murder and adult situations.

A point though:

You don't find someone who has his arms and legs cut off in anyway disturbing? Or Smee getting his limbs slowly crushed? Somone's still living brain being scooped out??? Yet a (fairly tastefully done and mild, if I say so myself) sex scene is crossing the line? Confused

You surely do have a funny idea of what is 'acceptable'!! Shocked

i would say head straight for Phang and try to kill her. he is a heroic paladin figure - do not waste time dally about your lack of men and being hoplessly outnumbered

plus this way you should all die - which is always good to

Don't worry Muaddib, I've got an awful sore throat and now it's worse from laughing!...wait that's a bad thing.
Problem - I do think stories are susceptible to getting done for underage stuff regardless (don't ask what I've been reading to find this out), so most go to great lengths to tell of every character's age, or even put up a little notice saying something like "Everyone is overage. Honest. Just assume."

Now I must leave, for the police are coming to get me for not suing Chinaren for such an act.

Silly me, thinking the demon would get paid in money . . . but what use do ultra-powerful underworld overlords have for gold? None, I'll tell you.

Well, I voted that Homer meets back up with me and Master, simply because I want to see you poke fun at IM again.

Great chapter Chinaren (speaking as one who frequently brings down the tone of the site herself) Wink

You're never going to get through tens of thousands of enemy troops in a headlong march. I think now is the time for Hyperiflamingo to prove his worth by casting some sort of stealth spell, allowing some of the team to wander past the enemy soldiers unobserved. Once in Phang's territory, the maiming and slaughtering can begin in earnest.

Just as an added bonus, could Dean of the Hood provide a blatant decoy, perhaps losing more body parts in the process?

Cra-yon Pass must be saved! Laughing

Yes, that's good. As a paladin you've got to go to the source of the evil - go after Phang herself, and either slay her or die trying. If the flamingo can get you there quicker either with a stealth spell or some kind of teleport or flight, so much the better.

As for Dean of the Hood, I hope his lack of body parts isn't dampening his spirits. He is, after all, the leader of a merry band.

Um, slight question...
But when did my brother go in league with the demons?
And what the heck is up with the flamingo mage thing?
I would think, personally, that any stealth the mage would use would be dispelled by the large amount of feathers brushing up against the hordes of evilness.
Unless, of course, you get rid of the feathers WITHOUT Sorrow interfering...
Which may mean getting rid of Sorrow.

Now I am capable of rational thought...

I'm pretty sure EH would try to seek out and kill me. But being me, I don't want that to happen. So I'm going for getting them to find Sorrow, thus distracting them from me for a while and involving more IM-related humour.

Also, we want more demonic payment! Well, I do...hang on...*clones herself* now it's a we.

We shall not relent until there is as much demonic payment with as many people as possible as can be reasonably (but not necessarily sensibly) fit into the story! Or I'll send Fat Kid to come and get you!

I'd say listen to Sorrow. After all, what harm can it do?

The worst that can happen is that our hero will end up a servile wretch like Idea Master, and the world will fall under the dark and evil influence of Phang until the skies run red with blood and to merely exist is a nightmare of endless torment...

i'd say ignore sorrow - who he doesn't ttrust

and try to kill phang again

plus it's less likely to work

however i must point out one flaw with that story - it had a distinct lack of me in it

My pic seems a little misleading...at least no one thinks I'm a girl. Wink

I would say listen to sorrows plan, but then use IM to reveal her real reason behind it, or try to get him to reveal SOMETHING.

Great chapter - I think Mother Goose is my favourite character Very Happy

I say listen to Sorrow. It sounds like he's saved his life anyway. Did he build some sort of soft landing to catch them when Phang sent them flying away?

I got that impression - which means Sorrow can see the future to some degree, and has some impressive powers. I tend to believe/trust people that save my life.

Happy Writing. Smile

Attacking Phang did nothing except get people killed/mutilated.
Sorrow is hanging around persistently, having saved their lives just a moment before, showing determination and resourcefulness.

That aside, Chinaren has gone to great lengths to show that we aren't allowed to fight Phang, and also that Sorrow is bursting to tell us something important.

So there is really only one poll option worth considering... listening to Sorrow.

<Moved to its own thread>

- - - - -

So once more we are back with Homer. Jnmrcs has met an untimely death, Sad the fort at Cra-yon seems to be doomed, and Phang triumphant. Is all lost? Maybe so. Yet there is hope.

What course shall Homer and his gang take (they are still there, just not in this chapter, I had to do a lot of plot stuff this time!)

Suggestions, comments, bribes. I await your responses.

Excellent new chapter, Chinaren. I like the sound of the twisted and bitter witch. Cool

If we're going to get to her in time, we need to go through the troops again.

Either we've got to find the flamingo and do some fast-moving by magic again, or we're going to have to take the sneaky route and walk through the pass dressed as enemy guards. I can't see our fine Paladin going for something so underhanded, but he might allow himself to be persuaded by his helpers. Paladins can be like that Wink

So, I think disguising ourselves as enemy soldiers would be good. Then Phang casts some sort of illusion-dispelling divining magic, which exposes our hero(es?) as (t)he(y) run(s) past Cra-yon.

Of course, we can't forget D-Lotus. Perhaps he wakes up in his slime bed and joins EH in destroying some great evil near the witch, or something.

Nice chapter! It made me feel a real urge to jump up with a big sword and kill everything! *suppressing urge....*

I think he should go to Rulm. as it seems the most hopeful choice. other than that, they're probably screwed, so kill them interestingly!

once again your chapter is strongly flawed chinaren with the lack of evil black daemons - namely me.

i think that homer should go straight for the cra-yon fort to try and defend it

ignore sorrows advice and attack again and again

if (when) he fails and falls at least it was for a good cause

It does seem that it would be incredibly strange for Try for the more distant Black Forest to win with everyone posting to try running through the troops.

So, the plot thickens! What should Homer do now? Who is the mysterious Sorrow? Is Phang having a good time? Will Lord of the Night get to the wicked witch first? Will Dean the Head go blind from Muaddib’s diapers? Where was Sunbellina* this chapter?

All this** and more will be answered in the next exciting episode! <Dramatic music plays>

*Couldn’t fit you in, sorry, next chapter though…
**Well, maybe not all of it.

We're a paladin, we could never just turn tail and let our ally be captured by the forces of evil. On the other hand, fighting head-on hasn't gotten us very far against Phang.

So let's be sneaky. Let Hyperion try to bluff his way out, but if they discover him, let's charge in and help the drow capture the impostor. Then we can pretend to take him away for questioning.

I like Key's idea. The other option is to come straight in with a story (eg. special mission on the orders of Powers or Phang, and the troll is necessary to its completion).

That's risky, though. All bluffs are. Maybe the flamingo is doomed... but we've got to try Very Happy

woo - good story. complete with me in it. i think - occasionlly its true - that being a paladin he should charge in and fight the drow.

and are these drow - as in dungeons and dragons drow?

or different - which would explain their being on the surface

Drow are allowed on the surface world, but their weapons and armor are made by the only forgeable ore in the Underdark -- adamantine, which disintegrates on contact with sunlight. Of course, having just overrun an entire fortress of elves, gnomes, and humans, this wouldn't be a problem, they could just loot the Elven chainmail, which is just as good (and green).

That was an interesting chapter.... lot's to take in....

Give me a moment... *composes warped brain*

That's better. I think they should wait and see if Duke Reg can talk his way out, but seeing as he is not dissimilar to a troll, a doubt it. Then they should charge in, hopefully preventing the horrible pointy death of Reg and killing smelly Drow at the same time.

Smelly Drow.... *wishes he was a Drow* Sob....

Great chapter Chinaren. Smile

Sorrow's character deepens. Is he a true neutral? Or is he instead leading Phang to the once place she can be defeated?

Homer should leave Hyperion to it. Hopefully he is smart enough to talk his way out.

I look forward to the next chapter.

Happy Writing.Smile

Or is he leading Homer and the merry men to their deaths?

I think they should let Hyperion handle it, but if things escalate (i.e. if his disguise is discovered) Homer should step in like Key said.

Whoa . . . this is weird. Generally my D&D characters are Neutral Evil -- for non-D&D fanatics, this means that they'll work in a group, and help out . . . if it promotes their best interests. From what I see, Sorrow is working in EH's group . . .and helping out a bit . . . but from what I see, he's only doing it to get rid of this awful curse that Phang brought him into this world with, and become more powerful.

Chinaren's reading my mind . . . Surprised

Also, while the title of the story is Good vs Evil vs Money, I don't see much money being involved in here. P'raps EH could pay off the drow?

Oh, I almost forgot. We still have Key the Walking Chamber Pot of Holiness. That could be a definite plot twist, though I think that LOTN is looking out for that, now.

Whilst the 'Good vs Evil' bit is fairly obvious in the story, the 'money' bit refers to the bribes and bids paid to the author over in the marketplace! Very Happy

Well, a title could be "Demonic Influence". Oh, but now it sounds bad. Blergh.

Is it Good vs Evil vs Money because Good vs Evil is just so *uh* cliche?

Twisted and bitter old hag. You know me so well, Chin-Chin Cool

I love the way you're fitting all this into your story. You're really earning those fables now!

Anyway, I'd say go for the humans. Elves are notoriously uninvolved when it comes to fights. It's their role in life to say 'It's not our problem' until they get overrun. Tempting as it is to go on a gnome-bash, I think they'd hole up and make it almost impossible for you to break through their defenses.

You can go through the humans fragmented kingdom by fragmented kingdom, sweeping them away like dust beneath Muaddib's wheels. And after that.. world domination of course. *much evil laughter*

Keep it coming... Very Happy

It's strange really, you would think all these random ideas and strange requests would make things harder, but everyone's submissions to enter this story actually seem to be helping my creative juices! Shocked I think because they force me to think along different 'paths'.

Anyway, I am really enjoying writing this story, and though I have a kind of long-term plot figured out, the twists are suprising me as much as anyone!

Keep it coming folks! Very Happy

Excellent chapter Chinaren.

The story really is coming together now. Very Happy

Whilst going for the humans seems like a good plan, I think it's possibly the wrong move.

Attacking the humans puts our armies between the elves and the gnomes. We could be attacked on two fronts, not to mention the sqirmishes with the humans. I think this possibility would be attractive enough to tempt even the Elves from their hiding. Don't forget a possible rear attack as well from any remaining troops trapped to the south.

I therefore suggest mopping up the remains here first, and then proceeding swiftly to the elves and throwing the full force of the army against the forest whilst we are still strong. With the crushing of the elves we can then just travel east taking out the humans (demoralised by the elvish defeat) and finally the gnomes.

Happy Writing. Smile

i'd say go for the gnomes first - as it doesn't mention them being particularly defensive. the elves won't come out and attack - while the humans would take to long to organise themselves

Yum, chicken....

Anyway, nice chapter! Very Happy. I think that going for the elves would be a good idea, cos beating them will show the other races that we mean buisness, and elves usually have nice shiny things lying around, so there is the chance for some rewarding looting.

Now, back to my chicken.... *munch*

Aye indeed, Powers the perverted, with a litter of Maudogs on the way.
And how do you intend for Shady stoat to rise again? Did the wizard's familar take over the body of the witch? Or is this a completly different Stoat?
Personally, I think Sorrow should 'lose' me and I stumble along the path of our hero. Along the way...I inadvertenly change the course of history or something.
Or just get restored. After all, what's a party of heroes without a mage?

I agree with lordofthenight - attack the gnomes first. But in the meantime you could use some tricks to keep the humans from uniting. Like taking tribute from some kingdoms not to be attacked, or paying a bribe for one kingdom to attack another. It doesn't really matter - you're going to flatten them all anyway once you're done with the gnomes, but it will be easier if they're squabbling when that happens.

Go for the Gnomes. They might cause problems later on, and elves and humans won't...well, elves won't, but humans might unite. Well, its a risk...and knowing humans, they probably won't until its too late.

Right, this story has expanded quite a lot more than I thought it would when I started it, so I am 'doing a Smee' and splitting it up a little. The Poll for episode 8 is still running, but I am posting episode 9 now for discussion etc.

Once the poll for ep8 is done I will work on the next chapter whilst the poll for 9 is underway.

Stand by for episode 9...

Phang and her part of the story, along with the results of the current vote, and more will continue next chapter.

Good chapter. Cool

Initial thoughts?

I say let Sunbellina do the talking. Nobody could call a lynch mob out after hearing that sweet, twittering little voice explaining things to them. It's the Disney effect Wink

Failing that, the moste potente chamber pot could shower the townsfolk with... whatever was handy. The rest of the party could make the most of the decoy and get by unmolested.

Ahh well, thanks Chinaren! Nice chapter Razz

I agree with Ms. Stoat, a rant from little Sunny should set the mob straight; with them either thinking *too cute* or just getting tired and wandering off.

But EH is a paladin, after all. If someone has been murdered by an outsider, he should find out and confront this evil.

Let's tell them that his mission is to defeat evil in all its forms, and ask them about this "outsider" murderer.

Even good has to have priorities though. If his mission against Phang was not a race against time, I'd agree with you. While he gets bogged down in a local murder, though, she could be out there destroying and enslaving all the free peoples of the world.

Whilst EH might slip into his 'destroy evil, all evil, everywhere' routine, he has companions who can remind him of his overall mission. And of the price should he fail.

Nice chapter. I tend to think that Evil Homer would try to find out what the problem was only to discover that the evil had moved on in the direction that he was going. So he would chase it without going out of his way from the first mission.

Okay then, tactical and plot moving-forward episode folks. Whilst we are voting on Homer’s little dilemma, let’s have some ideas on what Phang’s next move should be…

Also, I am looking for more character volunteers please. I need to involve some of the Gnomes’ allies, as well as Human and Elvish forces. Put your name forward in the market thread, free of charge for a random part, or bid for a specific role! Very Happy

Niiiice chapter. Cool

I think, as the Chunder King knows we're coming, the forces have been sent out to give the city of Chunder more time to prepare. It's possible that this is their only mission, and if we make straight for the City, we can take it before they have a proper defence in place.

On the other hand, I don't think we can leave alone an army whose powers we are ignorant of. I think Phang should send out a small party of scouts to the Group with the Mages, with the main brief being that at least one of them gets back to her, to report.

That's all I've got for now. I'll think on it some more...

I love this story so much! Very cool chapter Chinaren!

I agree with Ms. Stoat; that they should try and press forward to capture chundyer, but send some small force to investigate the small mysterious group.

Ahh! What have you done?! I leave for a week and you make me a blonde pink dress wearing little witch?! *deep breaths*

Okay... I'm okay, really. I can deal with this... Okay... *more deep breaths*. It's the pink. I can't handle the pink. I don't care what you say. I'm wearing orange. "Orange is the new pink" That was on a movie. (free fable to whoever knows which movie, first). Every time you write the word pink, I'll just read orange. Okay. *another deep breath*

It was very good, besides the pinkness, but you had no way of knowing that I'm allergic to pink (at least that's what I tell my grandma) so I forgive you. Wink

P.S. I voted to send me to talk to the villagers. the whole Disney effect thing.

Sending scouts to check out the small army is good, but if there's a major army to the East we should destroy it before capturing Chundyer. We don't want armies outflanking us, recapturing the pass, or even telling their friends that they survived being close to us. Anyone who comes near us should be destroyed.

Let the defenders of Chundyer wait, and let their fear grow....

Mwhahahahaha!

Laughing turnabout is fair play or so they say Wink

Congrats you got featured in one of my stories and we'll hear about your many cool adventures in the coming months (yes it is that slow a story).

Go get the large army and leave the city alone for now Smile
Send Phang to go attack the small party while Powers deals with the large army.

Nice chapter.

We should split the forces. I believe it won't harm us, and going after that large army in the east is just what they want us to do. We have to take the city now or we'll fall in their trap and they'll have plenty of time to prepare themselves. If we don't take this chance, they'll be holed up and never come out, and our advantage lost. Probably their intent was to split us, it was a good strategy. Whatever we do, its unfavorable to us. But I think the horde is strong enough to fend for themselves in two groups. Phang should take one army and Powers the other one. Later regroup in the conquered city.

Well, I don’t bloody know, that’s for sure! So it’s up to you lot to provide some suggestions! Let’s have some clever questions for old Witch Stoat whilst you vote for Phang’s next action from last chapter.

Over to you, but remember to check out the Story of a Picture (or SoaP) competition in the experimental forum as well!! Very Happy

Ooooh, nasty decision point. I'm liking it! Cool

Putting aside my initial thoughts of:

What is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?

I can only think of a couple of (not very) good ones. The simple plea for help seems to suit our Paladin's nature:

"Will you help us, please?"

Or:

"Tell me exactly what I need to do to obtain the Black Heart and defeat the forces of evil in this land."

I'll go do my christmas shopping and think some more. Smile

You're asking me to think on Saturday? I just got up, too.

Seeing as he's a paladin and he has to fight evil and he's crunched for time, ask her if Phang is currently moving to assault / maim / destroy any major cities or armies at the moment. That would give him a good idea of who's in danger, and where Phang is.

Alternatively, ask her a question about Sorrow and Idea Master.

Make sure you include that she doesn't have to answer or answer truthfully, but that he would prefer a truthful answer.

Great chapter! Very Happy I particularly liked how Sunbellina dealt with the mob.

Tough decision point. Asking how to defeat Phang is a possibility, but if it's meant to give insight into Homer's character, maybe he should ask something more general/philosophical, like:

"What must I do to defeat evil in the world?"

or

"How can I best serve the cause of justice?"

or even

"What is the root of evil?"

If the Twisted Stoat doesn't have to answer the question, then Evil Homer would want to concentrate his mind on one of those big philosophical conundrums that have plagued mankind all through the centuries.

Like:

What is the ultimate nature of truth?

or:

Is there any such thing as a truly victimless crime?

Or:

Is it wrong to lie to children about the existence of Santa Claus?

I think the simple "Will you help me?" as stoat said is the best.

Or ask:

"How, O witch, did you earn your incredible beauty?"

Good chapter. I like the new 'love interest' (although Barbara Cartland it ain't!) Wink

I'm going to go for the fairies defending the cannons. You've already said that the Gnomes main defence is their machines. If you can keep them from being destroyed, Chunder has a real chance. Well, I say 'real chance'... it should be able to hold out for a while, anyway.

I still think Phang's going to win tho. Very Happy

Well, yes. You and Sorrow are currently in with Evil Homer's plotline, which was in last chapter, and will be in next chapter. I am taking them in turns.

Okay, I will put up a poll for EH now!

Great chapter! I love the "Cow of Doom" Smile

Here's an idea for King Chundyer: make it look like the cannons have been nullified, wait for Phang's army to close in, then open fire at close range. To do this, he'd have to put the faeries next to the cannons to block Phang's magic, and maybe also bring some of the cannons back out of the way, far enough to be unaffected by Phang's magic, but close enough to be able to be brought out quickly.

As far as the gnomes' other army goes, engaging Phang's army is probably too risky for them, but they can cut off its supply lines and threaten Cra-yon pass. Their objective should not be to defeat Phang in battle, but rather to limit Phang's ability to lay seige to Chundyer. If she has to pull back to deal with them, maybe by that time the humans will have joined the fight, and there may be a real chance to defeat Phang.

Hey chinaren,

Great chapter, I read it awhile ago. I agree with Key's plan, sounds like a good one to me.

The Cannons need to be used to their most effective if we stand any chance. Close range mass destruction sounds fun.

Happy Writing. Smile

Decision points are definitely getting tougher. Good work China! Very Happy

Hmm... Homer can't possibly let poor little Sunbellina fall to darkness without a fight. He's going to have to split the party. I don't think he'll lose sight of his priorities though. It will be a small split, hopefully with the maximum possible effect.

One suggestion is to send Key, Areax and DukeReg after Sunbellina. The pot is a moste potente and dignified item and already has a bond to the little girl. Areax will lend them some speed.

Scouty Solomon would be a useful addition too, but that depends on how much speed a horse can make with two passengers and a chamberpot weighing it down, and also on whether Key can locate the girl through his powerful magics or not.

Another option is for Evil Homer to ask the twisted witch what she meant by saying Sunbellina had power. More info could lead to a completely different decision being made. Cool

I agree with stoat that the decisions are getting harder. Sorrow has stated his desire to meet with the witch at some point and I assume that he will meet up with them again?

The best strategy might be to keep moving towards the goal and wait for Sorrow to approach them with demands or reveal more of what he is up to.

The witch Stoat might be able to give more information about what Sorrow wants with the Duke’s sister. It would probably be worth asking and hope for a good answer although she doesn’t seem to enjoy answering questions.

I didn't want to be this evil, but you're the author. And you know what's best, of course. Very Happy I don't see any speculation as to what Sunbellina is being used for. My theory, of course, is that somewhere Sorrow/Phang will need to sacrifice a young virgin, thus aiding Sorrow's/Phang's plot to take over the world.

Of course, the Witch's divining will lead to figuring out that Sunbellina is necessary in Sorrow's/Phang's plan (I do that because I'm not sure who's working for who) and EH and friends will need to go and find her.

*Gnaws on bone**Looks at story**Continues gnawing*
I say that we keep on going. With all the popping in and out Sorrow is doing, we'll meet up again evenutally. And THEN you may pound him into paste.

I'm with Stoat (the player, not the witch Wink) - I don't think we can just leave Sunbellina in Sorrow's clutches. DukeReg, Key, and Solomon sounds like a good pursuing party. The only one I might add is the witch herself. We'll need her to retrieve the Black Heart, but we might not need her for the journey (and I'm sure she's got ways of catching up). Besides, she seems to have taken a shine to Sunbellina; maybe she would want to go.

Phew, finally caught up.... You posted alot in the 3 days my internet was dead.

I think that EH should send just Solomon out to find Sun, as this would mean I get my own story arc (he he he) but sending Duke Reg as well would reduce EH's party's power considerably. Key could come, never know when an enchanted pot could com in handy, and the bond it has with Sun would be useful (somehow, i'm sure you could work it in)

Did I mention that it'd give me my own story arc

Keep the great work up Chin!

Thanks for the comments so far all.

I think if the party splits, then the Duke would pretty much have to be a member, he wouldn't have it any other way.

If they don't split, then EH could likely persuade him to stay with them.

I have put episode 12 poll up, how to use the fairies and their magic against Phang's hordes.

Key's plan of 'pretending' the cannons are out of action so they take the attackers by suprise sounds like a good plan, so they will do that if the 'protect' the cannon poll wins, and exit polls seem to suggest it will.

For the Gnomish army in the field, hitting the supply lines seems to be the way to go, but any other options welcome!

Um. Yes. It does appear a little one sided so far.

Well, I am a bit distracted at the moment, so I can give it time to suddenly swing the other way, so to speak.

Chapter 15 .

Phew! That was a long chapter, and bloody hard to write as well for some reason. Confused

Anyway, there you go. The Horde is in the City of Chundyer and the king has fled west with a force of unknown size. Meanwhile the Gnome army is to the rear, and may attack before the city is pacified. If Phang sends a force after the king it may be too weak to see off any other attack and take the city.

So, suggestions, comments and all that jazz please!

Nice chapter! The Cow of Doom part was hilarious. Laughing

I think taking out the gnomish armies and securing the city is more important than going after the king. It's actually good news that the other army is coming after us; if they were to retake Cra-yon pass, it could cause us no end of trouble, but as long as we engage and defeat them, our fearsome reputation will be secure.

So I say secure Chundyer first, then fight the larger army.

I'm with Key on this one. There's no point in splitting up and leaving both forces too weak to do the job they're assigned to. Gather your strength.

Loved the harpies and undead attack. That General is a sneaky piece of work! Razz

Do I really need to ask as to who took Dean the head?
And I suggest that we take the city and use it to fight the other army. Just to drive the point home.
And I want to show up dangit!

Good chapter!

I'm with everyone else - keep your army together, and deal with the gnome king later. After all, considering the size of your army, all you'll really have to do is catch up to him.

By the way - I really liked how the fate of the Cow paralleled that of the city. At first it seemed there was a victory, but then WHAM! your forces split in two. Just like the poor cow. Anyway, liking it so keep it up Very Happy

Oooh, wait, wait, I've got it!
What was it that split the city gates? Some demon or some such?
Send HIM after the group of gnomes.
After all, the cow split in two, and then the head rolled towards Resio and his mage friend, so it only seems fitting that the head of the gnomes is captured by the one that split the city apart!
Just a symbolic thing I caught onto and posted...
You don't HAVE to do it Chin.

Mmm. You mean some kind of assassin type? The creatures that opened the gates were (some kind) of undead wraith types, only really usable in shadow, which is why the army waited until night to attack.

Also I think that Phang wants the King alive so she can 'play' with him.

Still, it is a worthy idea. *goes away to mull over*

Polling is now open for the last 'Homer' chapter.

I put the poll up after the chapter. I am torn between doing it this way and on a chapter by chapter basis.

Preferences? I could have put the poll up on the bottom of this thread, but I like to read the chapter before voting.

Anyway, this one is at the end of Chapter whatever it was!

I agree!

The pic took me about 2 days to choose! I have a ton of good ones, but I wanted one that looked at least a bit representative of the story! It's a bit small though, I had to squeeze it down a lot. That cruel Key would let me post it any bigger. Wink Maybe I will post the full size one somewhere in here, just for interest.

LOL.

I have changed this thread into a general chat one, as the dicussions for each chapter go up in, er, each chapter.

Hence I won't be updating this one after posting new episodes any more.

Great idea! This is my favorite storygame in the whole city of IF.

Where is the sign-up thread? I'd like to be a charecter in this storygame, but I don't know how to get in.

You need to head over to the Market Bizarre to find the Greed Auction thread.

Then make an offer of fables for how you want your character to be portrayed in the story. Be prepared for people to counter your bid to making you into something perhaps a little less impressive.

A chamber pot or slug springs to mind Wink

Yes indeed, you can bid away as Smee says in the marketplace. If you read the thread you will get some idea of what chaos can ensue though! So be ready for something terrible Wink

Alternatively, if you hang around IF for long enough, you will be added in "randomly" when I need a new character, and don't worry, I don't plan on ending this story for a little while yet. Very Happy

Better not be. I paid good money for Kagemusho, and he's had a mere one appearence.

Ah. Ok. Well, I'm not exactly rich in terms of fables, so I guess I'll wait for a while. Also, that makes sense, because I thought that you just randomly added charecters in and so Phang got lucky and her little sluggywuggy didn't. Smee, I'll always think of you as a big green slug.

Anyway, back from rambling, what kind of bid would get you to be something like... oh... Dean the Head?

Well, Dean didn't exactly ask to be a head - it happened afterwards. Most bids are generally quite small, though there are a few ecceptions.*

See Here for more details on the bids.

*Most notably the thousand fable plus bid that decided the outcome of the fight between Lordy (me) against the Twisted Witch and her pet dragon. I had to fork out 1551 fables to win that one. And the character of Lordy only cost me a mere 50 fables to buy.

He did say this in his story - that it would be similar.

But Greed is by no means the only story to have IF characters in it. Let me see...

Greed, EVIL to the Stars, A Tale of IF, Empty Streets, Journey to the Center of IF, Revenge of Bob to name a few off the top of my head.

And a lot of other have also had various ChinAd Agencys of Chinaren Inc. mentioned.

Yes. Even some of my other stories have IF characters in. The first one was Shogun* in chapter 2 of Narg the Nasty. This was before Fables. I don't put characters in Narg anymore, that is what Greed is for! Wink

For Nalloon's story: Go for it! Very Happy

*No longer active on IF sadly.

I have just finished reading the whole 30 chapters. (phew!)

I have never, in all my life, read, or seen, or heard, something so sick/disgusting. Althought i must admit it is the funniest SG I have ever read.

I especially enjoyed reading Phang doing it with Lordy, the bit where Stoat dies while... having fun with Powers, the bits where it mentions wheelie thing (Mcdibsky) fornicating doggies, and the sentence where it said "slimy excercise" with Smee and Flauna sluggies.

There should be an award for sickest SG, and Chinaren would win it every time. Very Happy

And never with the same SG!

Although the four word story may come close, what with your efforts.

You are far too young to expose to that type of filth Whitey. I still have a shred* of decency left.
