So, just a random demographic. Some of you are in high school, some of you are out of high school (I only have to serve 3 more months myself), and some of you may have been fortunate enough to somehow skip high school, but what I want to know is, what was (or is) or high school stereotype? Were (are) you punk, emo, prep, skater, cowboy, what?

I'm a hardcore prep myself. Wink

Geek, haha!

Now here's a question that's been burning away for er, uh, 5 seconds.

What is the difference between a geek and a nerd?

Anyone? Confused

Haha...

A geek is someone who prefers computer programming, chess clubs, and book groups to beer, WWF wrestling, baseball and 'soccer'.

A nerd is a social reject of limited intelligence. Often seen hanging round with geeks, because geeks were less likely to/capable of beating them up than jocks Wink

~

EDIT:

Checking around google - seems there's many differing opinions.

Quite an amusing table at this link : Geek vs Nerd vs Dork

From that table, I'm probably more nerd than geek /shrugs *

* although slash commands for emotes is rather geeky Wink

HAAAA!

OKay, i have to admit.. back in my days of highschool, i dont' remember this wide variety of "types". You were normal, a nerd, or a goth.

and, yea verily.. i was kind of a normal goth kid. I wore black and had purple hair, but I smiled all the time... so although dark toned, i wasn't scary enough to intimidate. And I went though my various flannel/vintage golf shirts/old sweater phases as well.

Of course, even beyond the whole geek/nerd thing all these terms are as fluid as the rained-on snow. It seems to go in stages: Definite-Derogatory-Adopted-Cliché-Old.

Definitely a geek. Although I'm enough or a mix of geek and nerd that it can be a bit fuzzy.

I skateboard, but I wouldn't consider myself the skater people tend to stereotype. I can have intellectual conversations without saying: yo dude, radical! Laughing

I own preppy clothes, and I enjoy reading. I am on my laptop a lot as well.

I would say I am a mix of everything.

I's the one that would be voted "Most likely to end up in an insane asylum in a strait jacket."

I don't know- probably more of a geek.

I believe it was "Most likely to be found in the corner of a padded room straitjacketed, giggling and looking generally insane."

Personally, I don't particularly recall being aware of the various cliques at my school. Whether it be from indifference, self-absorbtion or general unawareness (all of which were applicable), it can be truthfully said that wherever the pulse of my school resided, my finger could be found at the place it was furthest from. I guess you could say I was one of those invisible kids, no one really noticed me, and I didn't really notice anyone else, and at the time, I liked it that way, though I got along well enough with the people I couldn't avoid. Nowadays, I regret such anti-socialism in my youth.

I suppose if I had to look back and PICK a group, I would have been just as comfortable with either the Geeks or the Grunge kids--now aren't those two odd hats for the same duck to wear? Nevertheless, I am geeky enough to use Linux, but still like beer and WWF wrestling. Go fig.

I honestly don't think my school has cliques like that. We're a private school and we go from kinders (4 years old) right up to 6th form (18 years old) so there's far too much diversity for cliques. We don't even hang around with people of the same abilities as us - some of my friends are members of pretty much every band/orcestra/ensemble there is, some are in the sports teams, some are in the bottom sets and some are in the top sets. We've all passed the exam to get into school, so if a group of people tried to set themselves apart based on intelligence or sporting ability they'd get laughed out of school.

Cliques we've never had that really, we mostly had the invisible ones, the talkative ones and the people we didn't like. Geeks was friends with the normal children, goths was friends with the normal teens and goths didn't care if they were called freaks, we'd stay friends with them. I was an invisible student, until the end of the year, they actaully started taking notice of me. Becuase I didn't talk that much anymore, I rarely went out, when I did I was usually silent, close to the end of the year people liked talking to me, but I hated the rude questions, but anywho, I made new friends in collage and Its one of the best days of my life.

We don't really have sterotypes.

But I would classify myself as the quiet one on the side, not quite a loner, not really popular. Not a nerd, and not a geek, but a bookworm.

We do have a "cool group" though. A group of girls who think they are higher above everybody and everything. Not that I'm trying to sound bitter. . . .

Heh heh, um... Blush ok, maybe a little..... Lookaround

Being at an all girls school we do tend to have cliques, but most people all like each other. Girls can be quite spiteful though, which can create rival 'groups' etc.
We have the chavs or 'popular people' - who everyone who doesn't classify in the group dislikes so they're not really popular, they just think they are.
Then there are the social, intelligent people - the seconed largest group.
Then the quiet ones who fade into the background and keep to themselves.
And finally the outcasts who don't fit in with any 'clique' but tend to bunch together.
I'm a mix between the outcasts and the social, intelligent groups so I'm fairly versatile. I don't really care about cliques though; it doesn't influence my behaviour in any way.

It wasn't quite so much clique-y at my school, there were just groups, and they happened to act like cliques sometimes. I sort of went between several groups.. all of my friends are weird, and most were in band. I am, and was, quite definitely a band nerd (I'm studying music in university this year). I hung out with the anime group, and with a group of friends that was mostly characterized by being a nerd in some subject - band, lit, math/sciences.

Well... I started off as a loner and then other people just sort of .. gravitated towards me and we sort of built our own little group.... and then took over the school. Smile Ringleader of the B****es. Note the capital B there? Yeah, that belongs to me.

Really, I was a bookworm. I liked to read. That was about it. Nothing else really entertaining except for swim practice.

I was in a band of misfits. It was pretty cool because it was like Mission Impossible or some superhero team, we all had our abilities; we were the Hong Kong Phooey Crew:

The brains
The braun
The mastermind
The lady's man
The diplomat

Oh the capers we had. I was also the best skater in town and one of the best in the state, I just never identified with any of the so-called 'skaters' that were out there enough to become a part of their clique. The skaters humor didn't meld with mine fully, me and my clique would always talk and tell stories in outlandish hyperbole with just a hint of facts in them. Never a dull day.

Sincerely,
SirWaxaLot
