Pretty awesome.

Although, one little thing that bothered me in the movie.

When Nero is pinning Kirk down to the ground by his neck, he says something along the lines of "I'll kill you like i killed your father."

How does Nero know that he killed Kirk's father?

Bearing in mind that in the original time stream it is specifically said that Kirk's father is not killed, so the fact that Nero comes from the future wouldn't help him there, and the fact that he hasn't had any contact with anyone in the years of waiting (otherwise, Starfleet etc. would know more about them)

LOVED it! It was so interesting, which, I must say, is something I have always felt the original movies and series lacked...

Kirk: BONES, my LEG is... broken!
Bones: Dammit Jim, I'm a DOCTOR, not a--oh. Yeah, ok... I'll get right on that.

I was waiting for Spock/Sylar to slice Kirk's head open when he was angry and holding him down.

Chekov is so cute!!! Plus, this movie really put some background on the characters from the show.

Spock was always my favorite on the original series, and I liked what they did with his character in this movie. The scenes about his life growing up condensed and explained a lot of things that were scattered over the original series, and it was cool how they parralelled him with Kirk to show they were going to be a good team.

In short, this movie flat out rocks, I hope they make more.

Simon Pegg was pretty funny as Scotty. Love all his films though, so that's no surprise.

It was horrible. But it was fairly inoffensive in its horribleness, and some of it reached "so bad it's funny" territory, so it wasn't really all that upsetting.

"Prepare the red matter!"

Are you kidding? The New Star Trek film was spectacular!
Hell, I saw it 4 times while it was in cinemas!

Yes, it was 'spectacular' in the sense of being really big and loud. And it was spectacularly dumb, so there's that.

I wouldn't say that it disrespects the old series. It does, quite literally, destroy the old series - at the end of the movie, it's made clear that none of the events of the original series will ever actually happen. That was an interesting choice.

Well, in all fairness it's an alternate reality. It's not that the original series doesn't happen, just that it happens in another dimension.

Really? You think that the new Star Trek was dumb?
So you thought the idea of stealing Humpback Whales from the past and time-travelling in to the future to save the Earth from an unknown alien probe in Star Trek IV was good?
Yeah...

It's not clear to me that "smarter than Star Trek IV" (and I'm not necessarily conceding the point that it was) is a very compelling argument in favor of, well, anything.

But I do have to admit that I always liked the climactic conversation between the probe and the whale in that movie:

"We brought back your golf ball."
"Oh, that's ok, keep it."

It's all a matter of opinion I suppose. I liked it in it's entirety, and I didn't think it was dumb at all. Powers, what about it did you think was dumb?

Yeah, the more recent Star Trek film is effectively a reset of the franchise as there's the concept of timeline interference so the writers, directors and actors had a lot of creative space to work with. Which I feel that they did effectively.
